3. We had it all. Stripes and checks.
4. Fearless F112 disguised as a toy. It is not a toy.
5. I have paper and markers for info. I have stickers for name badges and I have some badges made up for the occasion. If you are not coming you are not cool enough for a badge.
6. It is a bit more comfortable for me with the lower tension, but I favour the lower tension anyway so that is personal preference for me. What was great was that I got that DBesque thud I was hoping for. Will it sound like a DB? No, it is not a DB, but in the thick of a mix when transport is an issue then I am more than happy with the thud it creates.
7. Look up retro169 on facebook. He has done a couple of nice finishes for me. Both relics, but he is cool to do no relics as well. Very reasonable. Cheaper if you strip it yourself.
8. Harpists - 90% of their time tuning and 10% of their time playing out of tune. My wife is a harpist, I could keep you up all night with harp jokes. What's the difference between a harp and a Harley Davidson? Both associated with angels, but you can tune a Harley. FWIW I have used an NS5 for a long time and only came to like it when I put a set of Honeys on it and jacked the action right up.
9.
As for a Mac, if he's studying at college, could they not lend him a laptop with logic pro loaded?
I work in a college and I can NEVER see that happening.
10.
He does get excited, doesn't he.
Is it that obvious?
11. It also looks like the venue is excited to see us and will lay on some coffee stuff and a light buffet lunch thing. Hah! Suck on that bass guitarists!
12. Obv feel free to bring DB stuff to sell as well. I shall be bringing my extensive collection of geek DB books to shift (cos no one bought them on here).

14. So, this is really happening. We could just hang out all day and talk about gut strings (and I am all for that) but perhaps people could note any topics that they would like some leading on and then if anyone else who is coming has any expertise in that area they could do a 20 minute slot maybe midway through the afternoon. I would love a 5 minute primer on slapping (not that any gig I have ever done has called for it, but ..... you know...... it looks kinda cool). I am sure there is stuff I could lead on and if anyone comes up with a request which matches my diminishing skill set I would be happy to step forward. I am not talking about 1.5 hour session with hand outs, just a more practical hands on kind of thing. It would be useful if people could print out a little crib sheet about what set up they have so that we can get a quick handle on bits we want to try and also how different bits interact with each other. Bass->strings->pickup->preamp->amp->speaker Bow -> rosin Any other ideas? Exciting times!
15. Most stuff comes up on here if you wait long enough. I did the same and picked all of it apart from the woodwork up on here. It is just a waiting game. I have Fralin J5 pickups I picked up (just in case I did not like the Nord pickups I also picked up ) up for sale now. It will all slowly add up, but it is a lot of fun
16. I am very serious about it! I am awaiting delivery of a set of roundwound strings for my NS EUB to be tuned an octave beneath standard 4 string tuning. Excited does not even begin to describe it. I am dangerously close to fretting an EUB for the ultimate scale length.
17.
I've one for sale but Dingwall scale length ....?
Ugh! I wish! If I were to go for it properly I guess I would go fanned fret, but my £220 35" scale neck through Harley Benton will have to do for now. We do actually live in a wonderful age of lutherie - there is not a great deal wrong with it apart from being a bit heavy.
18.
I have a rough question kinda in the same vein... I want to use my 4 string lakland at drop A (AEAD) - what kinda gauge would be needed for this? Best to get a 5 string set and ditch the high string? Will I need to likely need to file the nut? It's 34" scale.
That should work fine. I strung my Jazz that way for a long time. It just depends on the nut really. Only one way to find out
19. I picked up a Warwick .175 one which is OK but is tonally out of whack with the rest of the strings on the bass. I have ordered a set from Newtone and then I will mess with it for a bit to see if I can even get my head round an extra string. I can play a 5 without thinking. I can play a 4 without thinking. I have a feeling I will have to think while playing a 6. I am not keen on thinking while I play. I might even have to practice.
