2. I am taking views on pricing on this. My suspicion is that I have aimed high, but then it is a Japanese Squier. I just don't know.
  3. I have more pre-amps than I need. I have been messing with them and it is time to move some on [s]Demeter HBP-1 £320 inc carriage[/s] [s]Alembic F1-X £350 £330 inc carriage[/s] [s]REDDI DI £460 inc carriage[/s] Need them you know you do. It's been a busy evening

    J+P in one?
Here's a useful review of the Model Js which gives more detail on the coil configuration and series/parallel switching. http://basschat.co.u...-model-j-dp123/ Separate series/parallel switching for neck and bridge pups should give loads of tonal flexibility and looks like a great option to me. Tempted to try it myself.
That sounds like what I am looking for. Sorry Mr Byrne, I should have listened in the first place Now to find ones in 5 string format. I'm sure Mr Wizard can come up with something suitable

    J+P in one?

But is there a difference in windings? More/less? Is it just the two coils going into humbucking mode which change the character of the sound or is it to do with more/less wire on the coil? I am not being deliberately stupid here.

    J+P in one?

So a J is single coil. A P is humbucking. Could a J have two coils (I have seen these so know they exist) but with a kind of coil tap so that I had access to the correct J windings and the correct P windings? I am aware that there is an element of compromise about all this. Perhaps I should just S1 it and get over myself. I am now getting into dangerous territory that I only 20% understand so forgive me for any crass stupidity

    J+P in one?
This sounds interesting, but I cannot see the pic Is it just me?
It was obviously just me. It is there in all it's glory on my computer at work.

    J+P in one?
I stealthed a J pickup into my P bass at the 24th fret position. I chiselled out the cavity deep enough to hide a J pickup (and a bunch of Strat pickup magnets to boost the range of the pickup).
This sounds interesting, but I cannot see the pic Is it just me?

    J+P in one?

Thanks for all the comments. I guess the obvious thing to do is push the pickup in my P right down and suck it and see. I will not be ruining anything which exists, I am just thinking about doing a build (as in someone doing it for me, obv!).
I haven't got a clue but I had a listen to you tunes on soundcloud and I really like them. Especially the first one 'don't leave your joy behind' great vocals.
Oh........ ah........... shucks....... thanks

    J+P in one?

So, because I seem to have too much time on my hands I am thinking about basses. What would be nice would be a J with a P pickup as well. So far so good. However, what I would like would be the P pickup to not be visible - aesthetics and all that. If I routed the back of a body so that I could have a P pickup just hiding beneath the surface of the body would it function properly or is this just another stupid idea in my huge catalogue of stupid ideas?
  13. Japanese made Squier J. 3 T sunburst, black scratchplate. Good nick, few dings which I will picture later. I am struggling to price this (selling on behalf of someone else). It is a Japanese J without the magic big "F" on the headstock but it has the "S" which makes is an "F" really - kind of - you know what I mean. It plays nicely and does all a J should. I am not sure about the age so will get onto that this evening. I will say £290. I guess the market will decide. It comes with strap and gig bag.
  14. I have a Realist and a Fishman Platinum Pro pre-amp I am about to put up for sale. £90 for each if you (or anyone else) is intersted.
  15. Pickups. End of. I have had expensive basses squeal. I have had cheap basses squeal. I have had SC basses TOTALLY shielded. Still squeal. I have had HB basses squeal. We have one in church so I get to experiment with this every week
  16. The whole concept works for me.
  17. I just want a J5 in black with matching headstock that has been reliced. Or one in Oly White. Is it so much to ask?
  18.
I'd love a Bravewood. Old guitars are just nice objects for some reason. And the closest I can afford these days would b a relic. I have been fortunate to own a 61 jazz master but wouldn't want to take an irreplaceable guitar to the pub.
I had a Bravewood P and have an old J finished in Nitro which is well knackered. The Bravewood pushed all my old Fender buttons completely.
  19. I am not for a second dissing the small and lightweight thing. I have totally signed up to it and could not haul those two cabs around even if I wanted to. I am not looking at a neo vs heavy scenario. It was just exciting to have a wall of air moving. I'm sure 2 lightweight 2x15" cabs would do exactly the same thing.
