Yeah yeah yeah...... try the ACME.... yadda yadda yadda. The ONLY time you will ever have an obscure piece of bass kit (possibly the only one in the UK) within a 10 minute drive in this area and it has been months since you said you were going to!

At £110 inc shipping, if I was not already ukebassed to the max, I would struggle VERY hard to think of a reason not to buy one. That is totally bargainous.

The ACME is lush! I have one and I love the low tuning. If importing another from the US was not so painfully expensive, I would have 2. The low end is pretty addictive. I have experienced the less efficient nature of the cab and flogged amps which were not happy to drive it, but I have no DB amplification GAS now (apart from the desire for a 2nd one). A low tuning option on this build might appeal to some people who were happy about the efficiency trade off.

To continue my Fdeck love in, I have found that I have not needed the extra eq that I needed with either the platpro or the headway.

I have owned 2 of the basses. They were really nice. I would happily own another.

The PlatPro is nice, but I have never tried anything (and I have tried them all) that makes a piezo sound as natural as an fdeck.

Hi Y'all, I would like to change the metal ears/buttons on my Gotoh GB707 machine heads for some nice ebony ones, or perhaps some other nice wood. Gutarists seem to have that option. Can anyone point me in the direction of ones for basses? TIA

The distance makes an awful lot of sense. I was pretty tight in on the mic for the recording which inspired this thread and it was just not a cool sound and certainly not what I am used to hearing when I have done work in "proper" studios. Having said that, the usual venue has a Neumann something or other (U87?) and monitor on 15" ATC monitors, so I am unlikely to achieve that level of lushness

Ooh! Thanks for that Si. I have the small AT condensor on a gooseneck which has always struck me as underwhelming. Perhaps I should try it further away.

He used to be around here (or the old place) and he seemed sound and plenty of people were complimentary IIRC.

Forgot to mention that I have actually owned one as well. It was the 63 P up on his site. It sat next to my original 66J more than happily and ticked all the same boxes for me. Do I feel stupid for selling it? Yes.

Get someone to build you the wood bits - there are plenty of guys on here who would do it. Buy the hardware on here. Every pickup ever made crops up eventually.
