It works nicely with the amp running at 4 ohms but that is at home levels. I REALLY want to believe that one of the micro amps can speak with the authority of a proper, dedicated power amp. I have not tried it at gig levels yet because I have not had a gig and my wife does not love extreme LF in the house. I cannot understand it myself, but there it is. It speaks nice and clearly all the way down to bottom B in a consistent way. I will be back at work soon and I will be able to cane it and see then. Importing it was easy-peasy. I paid and it arrived. It worked out at £600 - odd all in, which was a bit more than I was hoping for, but so far I am happy with it and can see it will fill the niche I intend it to fill. I will do a proper review when I have a bit more experience with it.
2. I quite fancy this but am wondering about doing it by train. How far is the station? What is the nearest mainline station? The route suggested to me by train line.com is into Euston and then out again. I figure it would be easier to hit a bigger place the night before and truck across by train from there on the morning. It would be a 6/7 hour haul by car with the Friday night traffic and it would be lovely to avoid that. TIA
3. I have never met Guy so could not comment from a personal point of view. However, my mate says he is an absolutely top bloke so that is the definitive word for me.
4. That's proper nuts. I am loving it.
5. Dad 3353, that is a generous offer but I am afraid it has gone
6. I have written "Fragile - no, really" and "please don't break me" onto white gaffa before now. It has really helped as the slight humour gets their attention and I have had it handed back to me at the other end by a nice man in a suit.
7.
Damn! That's not what I was hoping for. I was more in the region of
I suppose, given the title, it could have been worse!
8. I have a no name, bought off ebay ages ago and never used piezo pick up. I fixes to the bridge with a wing nut. I want it out of the house so for a contribution to BC I will post it to you.
9. I paid. It came. It was packed beautifully. It was all good. There you have it.
10. So glad I did not see this. I would not have been able to stop myself.
11.
My main band has split up and I'll be hanging up my boots for good soon. I have a new obsession to fill my time (photography)
A whole new world of GAS pain!
12. Just for clarity, I do not and never have slapped the honeys. I also do not slap when I play. I like the rockabillys for the low tension and mellow tone.
Hi Rev, Well, first the easy question! yes, the colour is the only difference between the golden and silver slaps. as to pizz on the silver slaps - as a jazz/show player my experience of the silver slaps is a little limited especially compared with some of the other folks round here... - i have played them but not "in anger" so I wonder if someone with more experience could help us out here? As mentioned before PaulKing slaps the braided solos, but i wonder if there would be enough sustain in them for you; and Owen slaps the honeys (man, that sounds dodgy!) but they would have higher tension than the solos (though, i think, not as high as the garbos?) Thank you for mentioning this as it's something else I can look into on the development side - (though i know that doesn't help you right now!) but, again, if there are any current sets that you'd like to try out for a few weeks please let me know and i'll get them out to you as soon as i can. Cheers, daf
13. You will not break into a scene that already exists. Any work you do will be with people who are on the way up. They are doing open mic nights as we speak. The big paying gigs (such as they are by now given the appaling state of the uk music industry) are already sewn up and there is a queue of 12 deps waiting in line. Why would Mr major label album producer hire someone he did not know when bass players x,y and z have been providing him with all he needs for years? The people who will need you are the decent singer/songwriters who are open mic-ing it at the moment. I know this through experience.
14. I love my rockabilly strings. I wish I could bow them. I use honeys as a 'nearly there' bodge, and they are also great.
15. We live in strange times when a cab of this quality is not shifting at this price.

I bought the amp 2nd hand. I only have myself to blame. It is a superb piece of kit bit you cannot mess with physics. I got it for a good price so it will sell pretty easily to someone who has a small 8ohm cab who wants GOBS of power in a small package for not much money. Search for Chevin in the amps for sale section if you are interested (700W into 8ohms. 1u. 9 inches deep. 9lbs in weight). The cab had to be imported from the US so swapping it is serious hassle! I am cool with the situation, just feeling slightly stupid

Yesterday my new cab arrived. For the first time ever I have actually bought a new speaker. It is one of the new ACME 12" fullrange cabs. It is light and and looks great. I also bought a power amp to run it with my Demeter pre. The cab is 4ohm and the amp (cos I was not thinking) will only drive to 8 ohms. So I have a shiny new cab and no way of messing with it. D'ohwen!
18.
Thanks everyone in DB land.
I used to use mine with my 5 string bass guitars all the time as well. It does it all. If I had not taken delivery of another cab this morning I would be buying this. It would go splendidly with the amp that came this morning which I bought to drive my new cab. The cab is 4 ohms, but due to a lack of thinking on my part, the amp will only drive down to 8ohms. If any one fancies a superb rig with very little weight, buy this cab, my amp (http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=145859) and add a preamp of your own choice. Do I feel stupid? Yep.
19. The bumpf on it is buried in here http://www.ctxd.com/items/chevin.pdf Essentially it is a bridged A500. It will not drive any lower than 8ohm but will happily chuck 700w into 8ohms all day long. It is slighty odd in that it is also happy to drive a 70v or 100v line system (kind of multiple speakers with special transformers to do things about the low impedance brought on by lots of speakers). However as far as we are concerned it is a little power pack of joy. Well it would be for me if it went to 4 ohms.
20. I bought this. Then I realised that my new cab is a 4ohm cab and this amp will not drive lower than 8ohms. I feel a bit stupid, but then I thought "never mind, I can share it with my good friends on BC and spread the love". Chevin research make proper power amps. It is small enough to go into a SKB shallow X rack. £170 delivered.
21. These are great. Really.
22. Andy, I feel your pain. Auditioning with your eyes instead of your ears as all of us who do not live close to any of the larger music shops is a total lottery. My answer will ultimately be to max out my credit card and order 3 or 4 candidates and mess with them with my own kit and then send all but one back under the distance selling regs which mean you can send anything back within a fortnight.
