On hold. Much to my surprise I just bought the Uberhorn in the For Sale Forum. I will probably come back to it, but I fancied seeing how the 33" scale worked on a 5 and .............. I could not stop myself. The price was right and I sure I can shift it on when the time comes to progress with this one. Unless I have both

Protec Contego from Thomann. There really is very little that compares until you pay twice as much.

The bass is pretty. The scratchplate is minging. What were they thinking?

I have this http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;hl=goodfellow As you can see, I kind of made a half hearted attempt to sell it, but unsurprisingly, no one wanted it. So what to do? I have liked Shuker's Uberhorn shape since the moment I saw it. The proportions are just right. I had thought of trying to make one, and then wondered if Jon would make me one to mate with the neck on my "not quite a Godfellow". The worst he could say was no (along with "that is a body shape related to my company, why would I want to send it out to a woodwork ignoramus like you?"). He said yes! I will send him the neck, he will do the body and route it for the EMGs in the original bass and route the neck pocket. I will then take delivery of the body and sand it down to finish in oil. I mean, how hard can that be? I will be able to tell you when I finish The body will be made of solid walnut and I am excited beyond!
I havent heard any but the idea seems excellent, but I think the majority like the separate amp/cab idea, and its probably been hard work trying to show people how different the IP system is. I imagine we will see a neo version, or none at all.
As soon as they hear it, the decision is really easy.

This is the cab that sold here last week. So why is it for sale again? When you live in the sticks trying out new kit is virtually impossible. I would need to take a day off to travel to somewhere and try for half an hour and make a decision. If I buy second hand here for the right price I can mess with it to my heart's content and make a balanced decision. I prefer my present set up for what I do so will be staying with that. It is a great cab, stupidly light and really delivers the goods. It has a fitted Roqsolid cover. I am looking for £550 + carriage. Want it you know you do.
Sorry Sheldon I must ask for clarification on this point, I'm reading it as people who don't use fanned frets are not performance players.
You know, I don't think for a second that Sheldon was inferring that.

Bass guitar or Double Bass - you cannot spell bass without a B.

Sound clips. I can do more now that I understand the whole soundcloud experience All straight into Logic through an M Audio. Raw recordings apart from normalising them all.
Hi Owen, I've watched this being bought and sold over the last few years, always trying to justify buying it myself.... I can't imagine how you felt when you saw those marks for the first time! - My parker was damaged by a dep a year or so ago and i still haven't got over it! Any chance of a sound clip or two?
I will try and record some stuff over the weekend. Feeling the pressure to get my chops up

I have decided that my Bolin time is up. These were made for a short period some time ago - I have no idea when, by Bolin Guitars in the US. Designed by Ned Steinberger it is a lightweight 7.6 pounds, 5 string LP-esque shape with fancy wood carved top. It has an EMG P + 3 band (swept mids) EQ and also a Fishman Piezo bridge with vol and roll off. The P bit does what it says on the box. I could swap the P pick up for a CS if you fancy, or you can have both (Extra £35) and plug then in one after the other to see which does it for you. With the locking machines and quick connect EMG system it is approx a 7 minute job. The Piezo in the Bolin is all I thought they should be but I had never actually heard. I am not particularly fussed about the airy top end (but it is certainly there), it is the rich as chocolate low end which sends me (maaaan). The bottom end seems to extend all the way down. It is not a muddy rumble, just really clean and smooth with real LF extension. It sits REALLY well with acoustic instruments in a way that all my active basses over the years do not quite manage for me (and I have come to the stage where I am not particularly bothered what anyone else thinks). It comes with a fitted HSC. I lent it out to someone last year and it came back with some wear on the inside bottom rim. It was not great moment and I will not be lending stuff out again. Ever. Let's face it, it is fitter than a fit thing. Need it you know you do.

Wav EUB and amp issues - help neeeded!
Owen replied to derrenleepoole's topic in EUB and Double Bass
If sound engineers cannot get a decent sound when DIing your WAV then it is definitely a piezo/buffering issue. It is to do with your pre-amp. If you are handy with a soldering iron there are plenty of schematics out there - http://www.cafewalter.com/cafewalter/fetpre/index.htm is a decent one. The only way I can tell one end of a soldering iron from the other is that one end hurts when I hold it. Walter made me one in a mints box. It has been great for just this kind of thing. -
Wav EUB and amp issues - help neeeded!
Owen replied to derrenleepoole's topic in EUB and Double Bass
At a guess, the PJBB has a higher input impedance than the Prom. Use the PJBB into the Prom - sorted. I do not know the Wav and do not know if it has a decent pre-amp on board or not. -
