Yes, you can use it for amp modelling and effects, but none of the polyphonic stuff will work, so no instrument modelling and no synths. Maybe it's time to think about owning more than one bass and pick up a cheap something through the forum. As long as it plays OK, it doesn't matter what it sounds like! Dave.c picked up a very decent little Cort for not very much outlay just to use with his V-Bass. There is another way, if you want to get the best out of the V-Bass and stick with the Status- you can get a set of piezo saddles and a midi expander board from Graphtec. Not cheap though, and will require some mods to the Status.
Sorry to de-rail. I am thinking of piezo-ing my Streamline. I am presuming that the monorail bridge units are ABM. Have you actually done this or seen one?

Difference between round and hex core strings?
Owen replied to Beer of the Bass's topic in Accessories and Misc
TI use round cores on their Jazz Round nickel strings. They are nice and flexi. I love them deeply. -

Jas sent me free things. Does it get any better than Jas? No.
Resurrecting an old thread I know, but has anybody got hands on with the Rockbass version of the Warwick Alien? Thomann have them at under £500 for the five string version which is really tempting me!
I have no need of one, but they are well phit.

I bought a snare 3 weeks ago. The deal has not worked. It has not appeared and the seller has not yet come up with a tracking number. He originally wanted a bank transfer with promises of instant postage. I refused and said paypal or nothing. He asked for a paypal gift payment to avoid fees. I knew that gift payments had no buyer protection so went with a gift payment and added £5 for fees. The snare did not come so I went onto the PP site to set up a dispute and was told I had not made a goods payment so could not claim my money back. It transpires the the iphone app puts all payments through as gift payments so I could not do an automatic online dispute, I had to talk to someone at PP which is a feat in itself. Just a warning.

The inevitable has happened(insurance issues)
Email Strings & Things.
+1. I have dealt with them several times over 20 years and they have always been superb. Always. -
There's more risk when shipping outside of your own country. I can't afford to take that risk so I never ship outside of the UK, not even mainland Europe. IF I could afford to take the risk then I'd be quite happy to ship internationally. I expect quite a few people are in similar situations.
I am not making any argument here, but could you explain why? If you send it with fully tracked + insured service surely it is no riskier than the UK.

I have had some great deals there. I have yet to meet an American I did not like. I just want access to ALL their kit as well!

Hi US people, Sometimes I inflame my GAS by wandering across to Talkbass. I see something which would tickle my fancy, offer the asking price + any extra cost for shipping to the UK and make it clear that I am totally aware that I am responsible for all import duty etc. I have excellent feedback on TB from such transatlantic deals, but the answer comes back "sorry, I will not ship outside the US". Why is this? I fully understand not shipping stuff to well know fraud areas, but I cannot get my head around not shipping to the UK. Surely once the money is in and the package has been dropped off with the courier it is the same as any other shipping for the seller. TIA
Believe me, it was a whole heap of restraint to not contact the guy about a commission but I'm not going down the route of a custom order for anything that isn't my one and only bass... and that would be a tall order!
I did a custom order for my one and only for ever bass once. Tragically I did not like it and ended up losing a shed load on re-sale. I would have to be minted beyond to go down that route again.

I use bog standard whatever any other string player has with them. That is partly because I am fed up of finding rosin powder in my DB case pocket, but more importantly because I prefer the sound.
What are you going to do about a bigger 5 string neck with the 4 string bodies neck pocket? Your choice will be very limited in pickups if you want poles that line up with the strings. You may find you have to custom order some which will negate the savings of an off the shelf body. You could do what endorka did and have the routes enlarged a bit. It can hide pretty well if you paint the cavities black.
I have found a source for a body with 5 string routes so I am good to go. Thanks all as usual. It is good to throw ideas around

Villex custom pickups
Owen replied to Owen's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
If I could answer that I would, but I am painfully aware that my "throaty" might well equate to your "grunt' or whatever else. There is plenty of everything there with a clear mid which helps them cut through.
how would they compare to other pickups in terms of colouring?
