I was quite proud of the way the headstock came out. I saw something similar on some green custom job in BP a few years before and thought "I'm having that".
3. A long time ago I fancied a Tobias. I could not afford one. I also wanted a 5 string with a 35" scale. They were like hen's teeth. So I made one. Bernie G made me a neck - Birds Eye Maple, ebony board and abalone dots. I photocopied a Tobias picture and took it down to the woodyard with my one piece Ash body blank. The body was cut. The local luthier routed the necessary. I loaded it up with 2 x EMG 40J soapbars and an EMG bass/treble circuit (Vol/Bal/Stacked B+T). I finished the body with Ronseal all-in-one wood finish - "dries to the touch in 20 minutes" (it did). I had 6 screws in the neck joint because it was better - obv Ritter has been influenced by my lutherie. Bernie decided that the spec I had given him (Jazz spacing at the bridge) was not what I needed so made it thinner. I had bought the bridge already so had to move the saddles inward to get it to fit. The G is pretty close to the edge as you get higher up. So is the B, but, hey, who plays at the 14 fret on the B? Gohto bridge and machines inc a D tuner on the B. It is what it is and I will not pretend that it is in super nick or whatever, but I reckon it is worth £300. If it does not go then I will not be devestated because it holds quite a lot of sentimental value, but I simply have too many basses. When I can get my stupid computer to recognise the last import of pics I will upload them.
4. Carriage is going to be approx £13.20 if that helps anyone.
5. Lovely plucking hand action going on there. I will have to learn how to do that stuff. It would totally make up for my lame soloing.
6.
I'd also suggest that if you're using a double bass the Big Baby is going to be easily loud enough
That's cool, but sometimes I like to rock out with my bass guitars as well Just putting the thread up as a discussion point really. But I still fancy a large cab that is bonkersly light
7. The bracing thing seems to have been addresed in the thread I pointed to, but then again, it is all Greek to me. I just like the idea of carrying less weight
At a guess – and it is a complete guess – you may need to look again at the bracing. It will flex in a different manner to ply, setting up resonances in different areas of the sound spectrum. Far easier to trial and error a design with ply than Nidacore I'd think, and there's another possible big difference really – ply looks so much easier to work with. Could be wrong though. It's certainly an interesting material, and just out of curiosity I'd love to hear a Big One made from it. Got me thinking about domestic Hi-Fi- speakers or studio monitors now. Wonder if they do a transparent version of Nidacore? Edit: typo
8. The theory is that sonically it would not make a great deal of difference. I just like the idea of lifting less. My present cab is 80+ lbs so less really is more
9. The address in it is no longer valid.
10. And there you have it
11.
Would love to see and hear more about the 5string, have thought about commissioning one myself so v v interested! Would fit in nicely with the other ukes in my band
I'm documenting it here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=104007&hl= I am quite excited

13.
Is the new uke ready? I sent you an email....... Steve.
The new Uke is not ready, but last night was a good time to actually sit down and list stuff. It should be done within a month. He said hopefully
14.
Hi there Any pics of the inside? Is it heavy? Whereabouts are you located? JimD
I will do pics of the inside tonight, but it is just bare wood and rivets and stuff. It needs the foam It is certainly not the heaviest flight case I have owned and balances well. I am in Bangor, North Wales.
15. It is the second one - all solid mahogany. It seems to be almost out of the door so I don't know if I will actually make it to the pictures phase I'm afraid.
Hi Owen, Which model is this please? There are two fretted models and a substantial difference in list price: KA-UBASS2-FS (Fretted) £365.00 KA-UBASS1-FS (Fretted) £445.00 Does it have a case? (EDIT: Oops, sub-title says it comes with HSC). Where are you situated? Patiently awaiting pics Cheers, Stuee.
17.
Looks nice for the money... How is the neck (looks rather "jazz" than "p")
I guess more Jazz, yes. Spacing is MM5 esque. I would keep it quite happily, and if it does not shift I will not be sad. However I actually have too many instruments which serve the same purpose.

19. It is old and mucky and will not win any prizes in a beauty contest. However, it will stop your precious axe from getting knackered when your guitarist's Marshall head falls on it. It has no internal foam at all so you will need to provide that.
20. Just pointing to this where I am selling my Ubass, cos it does the EUB thing, innit. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=120863
21. I am selling my Kala ubass. Have I fallen out of love with it? No, it is just that the 5 string bass uke that I commissioned is nearly ready and I need to realise some capital. Having a collection of uke basses seems excessive! These threads will tell you more about it than I can here - vids and all. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=93168&hl=Kala http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=60595&hl=Kala £270 delivered I will get pics up soon.
22. Life is too short to play with bad drummers I used to ask how much will I get paid for this now it's who's drumming
23. This is one of the ones that came up regularly on Ebay about 4 years ago. I bought it on a complete punt and loved it. I then put a pair of EMG 45 TW pickups in it which did not work. By the time I discovered that they did not work it was a bit late because I had routed it for them. I then put a pair of Vilex custom wound big fat P soapbars into it. It now speaks with a voice of authority. The controls are Vol/Vol/Villex mid thing/Tone. The Villex mid thing is this if you are not familiar with it - 'All Villex pickups come with a built in mid-tone circuit and an external pot which allows to gradually change the sound character from vintage to slap. It's like having several pickups instead of one!' It is entirely passive. At the moment it has a Piezo bridge loaded onto it. It is my intention to take it off and load it on to another bass, but if you want it then I will leave it on for another £50. It needs a pre-amp for the piezos. The piezo has a separate jack socket on the side, so there are 2 jacks on it at the moment. I would leave the side jack in, but it would not be connected to anything. I honestly cannot remember what the body is I'm afraid It is really nice with a B that speaks as easily as the rest of the bass. If it is so good, why am I selling? I have too many basses and I am going to put three or four up. I have more than I need and that is silly.
24. Now THAT would be irresistible! http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=732771
