1. I got this. I really like it, but I need something else more. They come, they go Here is a link to the original ad. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=42659&hl= £400 Want it you know you do.
  2. If I was dropping £4K on a bass (and would happily do so if I had the disposable) I would have to be sure I could get that amount of wedge back out of it. Hardly anyone has THE ONE and two years down the line you might fancy a change. If you have bought wisely then you can change and still enjoy the £4K. If you blow it on something new and bespoke you can wave at the very least 40% of that goodbye. Buy a second hand piece of exotica. Play it for a bit. If you like it keep it. If not put it out here and get your money back and buy something else. The amount of times you will get £4K to drop on a bass in your life can be once or many times - it just depends how you spend it.
  3. Hmmmm............ I have too many basses (9) A few are vintage so those are going nowhere. Unfortunately they do not have enough strings. Several 5 strings are cheap and cheerful but I really enjoy playing them and they are worth more to me than what the market would offer me. One is the only 5 string that I have which is immune to the induction loop system in church. I do not enjoy playing it as an instrument, but it has a piezo sound like no other. When I find something that has a similar sound I will sell this one. One of the good things is being able to lend basses out to people to "have a go on bass". I very infrequently have all the basses in the house at the same time. (I used to lend my '66 Jazz out to loads of different people and then I thought about what could go wrong so that stays at home.) I have too many, but have no need to sell them for financial reasons so just enjoy rotating them for different gigs. Not sure what that has added to the conversation really.
It looks like a small child used the body as a sled on a day that they hadn't had any snow! EDIT: (spelling)
It has certainly spent some intimate time with a sander. It has also been routed for a 9v under the scratchplate - I prefer to think of it as chambered The back of the neck, although looking minging is actually SUPER comfy to play. Just smoother than a smooth thing.
  5. I'm sure I could find space for it. I could make it a nice warm coat.

Here is a bass I put together using a 73P neck and body (both of which had been abused) and various old looking (dirty re-issue stuff mainly) bits which I picked up here and there. It's come out rather well even though I say it myself Obv my pink velour sofa is a thing of rare beauty as well!
  8. Line out from the Lowdown until something you want turns up. You might even like it as it is.

  10.
I reckon I'm gonna have to get me some - have you tried the flats Owen ?
I have both strung up on different basses. You are welcome to borrow them.
  11. TI Jazz rounds are THE BOMB. Bendy, rubbery (in a good way) long lasting. I love them very much and I was looking for just what you were looking for. Did I mention that they are THE BOMB?
  12. Pick up into monitor. Mic into PA for the punters to enjoy luscious tones. Easy.
  13.
A Fingerbone Fastback, I believe.
We both read the same interview in IM+RW. I know I need to get out more. Perhaps you do as well
  14. Lots of fun. Zero resale. That might not be an issue, but worth bearing in mind.

  16. It is a dark brown Overwater leather gig bag. £120 to your door.
  17. As Robbie Shakespeare once said about a bass he was using at the time "this bass is many many more wicked".
  18.
Is that the same system that Peavey licensed? Aussie chap, right? Alex
It was/is. I had a Peavey Midibase and really wanted to like it. The MIDI was excellent. The bass itself was SO horrible that I could not bring myself to use it. I mean REALLY horrible.
  19.
Sorry, do you mean 7th fret on a low string tuned to E or B? Either way it sounds pretty good as that area of the neck sounds the best for using an octaver to my ear.
Realistically about 5th fret on the A, give the right patch is about as low as you will go, and that will be stretching it.
  20. 1. Do you know if you can program a patch on these synths to transpose the octave down (or up)? I have no idea! 2. Do you use a Librarian/Editor program? Which do you use? Nope. Much too complicated for me!
  21.
Wow, nice one. One question: I've noticed with a lot of software that tracks your playing, often when you release a note it can pull slightly sharp for a moment (which sounds especially awful if you've got a long release phase on the sound you're using). Does this do that? I thought I could hear it slightly on that guitar demo vid and I figure it'd be more noticeable on bass.
On open strings there does tend to be a slow vibrato thing happening. In a not good way
  22.
That's always been the problem with bass-MIDI converters - they take roughly a quarter wave period to work out the pitch of the note, so the lower the note the slower the response. I believe one historical solution was to shift your basslines up an octave (piccolo tuning or go up the neck) and then let the MIDI system transpose back down. Even with doing that you'll have to play with topspin to land on the beat. Alex
The Wal system was the Steve Chick system where the frets were actually wired as individual switches - frets split into 4 on each fret on a 4 string and 5 individual frets per fret on a 5 string. Latency was not an issue. It did mean technique adaptation though as wombatboter has mentioned.
