A Demeter pre has always been top of my 'to try' list, much jealous of your bit of kit Do you have to fiddle with the EQ much and do you find the parametric useful?
Not really having to mess with the EQ much, a touch of Bass warms things up nicely but the main EQ is more like adding texture than scalpel like precision The parametric is very useful to get rid of the resonant Bb/B on my double bass though. I have ditched 2 other preamps since having my marathon try out and there is another to go.

It is lush, but I am settling down with my Demeter so this has to go. It is full of really nice input stage creamy valve goodness and the variable impedance really makes things lush, but there are only so many pre amps you can hoard. The new TD-100 instrument preamp and tube direct box from Summit Audio features a hybrid signal path utilizing both a discrete solid state output device and a 12AX7A/ECC83 vacuum tube to give your musical instruments the clarity of class A sound with the richness and warmth of vacuum tubes all in ½ rack space. Perfect for both live and studio use, the TD-100 offers both XLR microphone level and ¼" TRS line level outputs, plus variable input impedance, polarity switch and ground lift, signal and overdrive LEDs, and even a headphone output for use as a practice device. 4. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=290261002508 You know what this does and you know you want it. I bought it here about a month ago, to see if it did it for me. My Demeter does it for me more, so this is going back out. Nothing wrong with it, but there are only so many pre-amps you can hoard! £190 delivered - but open to offers. Want it you know you do.
 5. 1 U pre-amp. Valve goodness. 3 band passive EQ + 2 bands full parametric. FX loop with front mounted send and return. Mute switch. I dread to think how many amps I have run over the years. Edited high (or low) lights are Petersen, Trace, Ampeg, Boogie, EA, AI, Focusrite, Fishman, BDDI, GK, Hartke, Peavey, EBS, ummmmm. I'm just putting those up as a point of reference that I have heard and used different pre-amps in my time. The Demeter is fabulous. I plugged several bass guitars in and they all sounded good. no need for excessive EQing, they just worked. Did it colour the sound - Mmmm yes. In a good way. No harshness, or EQ extremes, just solid usable tone. Good headroom and control. The next test was a Double Bass with a Fishman full circle pick-up. Piezo pick ups are notoriously fussy about their first input in the amplification chain, they need a really high impedance. I have been using a Fishman Pro platinum Bass EQ for a long time now as the beginning of my signal chain. It was the best I'd found and is choc full of useful DB stuff. However, into my Berg IP112 there was an element of harshness which was getting on my nerves. I plugged into the Demeter passive input, not really expecting great things. I was wrong. It is smooth smooth smooth. Full range without any of that upper mid "boink" which really gets on my nerves. I know I should be writing things about "tone like butter" and "grind when driven" etc but the bottom line is that everything that I have plugged has sounded a lot better than they have sounded into anything else . I almost got carried away and just played, being able to forget about my signal chain. Imagine that!
 6. This might be obvious to all apart from me, but when I tried it first I forgot to do anything with the nut and it sounded like you say yours does.

Boxed with instructions. I have added velcro feet to the bottom but these can easily be removed. 9. I've owned 2. The 5 HH was immense. I will own another one day. The 5H/S with piezo was deeply underwhelming in comparison. The piezo was my first piezo thing. It was not good at all. I then got a Bolin with piezo. Just fabulous. So to sum up (for me) 5HH = fab. 5H/S piezo = not the fire breathing dragon I was hoping for. YMMV obv.
 10. Amp. If you cannot (or get someone to) set up the action and intonate your bass then is not cheap, it is firewood. If you got a 2nd hand £60 cheapie P, set it up and dumped a second hand (£30 seems to be the going rate) SD quarter pounder into it then you are good to go. If you want a J or a 5 or 6 then you will be paying a bit more, but you get the idea. Tone REALLY comes from a decent power section in your amp. A nice pre-amp is nice, but with a weak power section it is useless. Even not-as-good speakers sound better with a decent power section. Of course we could all (and some of us have) spend £silly on basses, but a well set up cheapie through a decent rig will do the job fine and dandy.
 11. The finish is a factory one. It looks like Gold leaves on a black background. I will get the owner (Tim, are you reading this?) to take better photos. The bass is in Holyhead, Anglesey.
What's with the finish? Fancy paintjob? And where abouts are you? Cheers!
13. I even gave him (yes, that's YOU if you are reading this Tim) a spare G but he did not seem to remember to put it on. Kids these days, huh?!
 14. Selling on behalf of a friend it is about 4 months old but he bought a Jazz and this no longer gets any love. £250 and it's yours. Now £160 + carriage.

 16.
I think the market for this bass is very limited. You are looking for someone who wants an "improved" precision ( apologies to Leo Fender), with replaced guard, pup and a strange 5 way bridge with the string tree used to anchor the 5th string. And all for the bargain price of £350. Dream on.
Thank you for your words of encouragement Gareth. Have I unknowingly upset you in the past?
 17. Out of interest, would this fit a fender 5 string body? or warmoth equivilent? Probably not as the string spacing is quite a bit wider than any Fender 5 I have tried. Also it is for 35" scale and Fenders are 34". I'm not selling this very well! Is it 4/1 or 5 or 3/2 aside headstock? 3/2 Is it bare wood as apposed to paint on the headstock? Bare wood. Thanks Owen
 18.
Is it Rosewood or maple?
Rosewood.
 19. £70 posted No tuners, no neck screws or neck plate. Bare neck and nut fitted. It is in VGC. I thought I needed it. I have no time to make use of it.
