Favourite headstock design? Just for fun...
Owen replied to Yorkshire Bottom End's topic in General Discussion
This is my fave. -
This will be going to a commission sale when I have time to pack and arrange a courier. That will be in about 2 weeks. So if you fancy it, this is the moment. If this goes I will be OK with that. If it does not go, I will be OK with that. The price is what it is. Well, it was what it was, but now it is £1100 + carriage. Fund my ATC obsession. This is a 2008/2009 USA Fender Jazz. I fancied it reliced because I like reliced. I know some people do not and I am cool with that. It was stripped of Poly and had the right stuff painted on by Mister Retro169. I have kept the serial number on the back of the headstock to prove it is what I am saying it is. I do love a CAR headstock, and part of me is thinking "keep it for the aesthetic". But I have too many basses and I am reaching for my 33" ones more. Unless I want to treat myself and go for the 36" sixer strung with a bottom F#. with a D tuner . Yummy. This is also fitted with a D-tuner on the B. I love big bass, I cannot lie. There is nothing more to say here really. It does all a good Jazz should and looks extra fabulous. It comes with the original HSC which is properly functional but not as complete as it was when it left the factory. I will get a picture up, but it is in the attic and I am tired. Sorry if that spoils your evening. The headstock colour in the main picture is not representative, it caught the light oddly. The headstock-only picture is the proper colour. There is an extra strap lock hole on the back. That is how it came to me. I thought it was odd. But sitting down, it is remarkably comfortable. And sitting down is always more comfortable.

I owned a J5 a long time ago. I should not have sold it, but you know how it goes. The neck was sublime.

Irony overload in this article. https://amp.theguardian.com/music/2025/jan/03/dark-web-dealer-who-stole-unreleased-music-from-coldplay-spared-jail

I don't subscribe because 1. I am too tight. 2. If I want new music Tiny Desk and it's derivatives fullfil all my needs. 3. I get overwhelmed when presented with too much choice and consequently listen to nothing I do not already know.

Anyone been considering and saving up for an upgrade? This is the one you have been waiting for. Buy this or buy something which is not as good for more money later on. The price is right, the seller is right and (having actually played it) the bass is very right. Every time you buy a bass there are the inevitable extra set up costs. No such problem here. This is baragainous.

I have owned 5. Despite being a DB player I cannot play fretless in tune. I finally cured this issue by buying an NS Omni bass. It is just as well it is cured because I would only go and buy my 6th one if left to my own devices.

There is no other way. I have to get help from my daughter because she does not have hands like spades.

Early Christmas pressie - GSS Baby Sumo & Sadowsky SBP-1
Owen replied to Yorkshire Bottom End's topic in Amps and Cabs
The Sadowsky Pre really does it all live. I have way too many pres. The Sadowsky is the one which comes out with me. -
If you do not try it, it will become the one which got away. "Knowing" is real. "Guessing" is just unrequited GAS.

Is the Premier Royal Ace all original? Probably not. The Gretsch needs a couple of rods and clearly new heads I was going to buy a head to put on it, but then realised that you would probably prefer it cheaper and be able to put your own choice of head on it. Premier £200 Gretsch £120 Both + postage at cost whatever that will be.

Seeing Rickie Lee Jones play in Manchester, with my wife and daughter. I had never really thought about it but her work is among that which I know best as a listener. It was sublime seeing her re-work it with a drummer/vibes player and a pianist/accordianist on the fly. Accordians get a lot of stick, but a well played one is astonishingly expressive and when you are bouncing off RLJ's delivery then it gets no better for me. The textures and sonority of the whole ensemble were sublime. And it was a thrill to watch my daughter hearing it and going "wow, what is even happening?". She is pretty familiar with RLJ's output, but to watch her experiencing an artist flying so close to the edge and still nail it was beautiful. We shall not see her like again.

It was the saturation which was attracting me. But my days of playing live and being able to hear the nuances of my sound are well over. The saturation looks very nice.

Just watched the video. I can see the attraction.

Thanks. I looked at the Deco some time ago. It looks very nice indeed.

Interesting. Tell us about it....
