  1. Just great to hear such a seasoned player give an impromptu talk on his old bass……Ive used mandolin wire on my fretted basses for many years since hearing of him using it. Being mainly a fretless player myself I immediately took to the lower width and profile of mando wire and recently made a fretted with a reverse P pickup as well, due to the exact reason he gave about reversing them.
  2. Don’t let the keyboard player get to the producer and say ‘ I can do the bass lines….and the drums….and actually, almost everything’….!
  3. Yep, a quick wipe down always after gigs…
  4. Thanks for this info….I have opened the cavity, played an open string and then tried both the capacitors (by holding them against the pot and tag) . Not much difference with the top end but of course when I turn the pot to reduce treble it is a different sound and slightly less volume with it…..I’ll keep trying the two options for a while.
  5. You can find a huge amount of info on the PRS website for all sorts of venues and I’ve seen one at around £26 per day…but don’t quote me on this! It be easier to call PRS and ask for the licensing dept .
  6. Thanks for this…
  7. I'm using 250k pots with the Delano pups...Im guessing along the same lines as you with the pots own impedance playing a part but it surprised me, I expected with no cap. inline that there wouldn't be any sweep variation available. I've looked online at taking out the tone pot before committing and the general comment is that the pickups will be 'allowed' to output more top and bottom end, so I stuck with the 250k pots.....thanks.
  8. Although I can design and build a bass, I go by the standard given schematics for the wiring. I’ve made a fretless bass with jazz pups (Delano) and wanted to leave out the tone pot, using a blend and a volume pot only and this bass is loud, pickups dropped a bit to compensate! I opened up the control cavity and wired in a tone pot, trying first a .1 then a .47 capacitor and noticed a bit of difference between them but I’m only using a combo in my workshop so I’m not really hearing the loudness of stage sound changes with these values. Then I left the tone pot in but didn’t add a capacitor and was surprised to still hear tonal change when the pot is turned, )the left lug is unattached but the pot is earthed). So please wise me up folks, it isn’t bothering me but I know someone here will be able to clarify what’s occurring here.
  9. Yes I’ve heard New Moon are good….called them a bit before lockdown and I felt okay about them but lockdown meant putting a hold on insurance for now…..and yes, a company is rated when claims are made as to how they respond!
  10. I bought an Afghan coat in Morocco …. Yes, had to wear patchouli oil with it, I’m a bassist with Afghan and it stank … back in the U.K. I gave it to my drummer mate before he returned to NZ. Can’t imagine what NZcustoms ever said to him 🤣
  11. This is also now up on EBay… I have a spare Electrovoice speaker purchased ‘as new’ recone a few years ago and never used in my EV SX 200 PA. Unused. I found out actually that it was for the SX100+ series (this is info given to me for this model number when I called EVs U.K. office) but I think it’s pretty much a ‘standard’ fit for the EV SX range. The 200watts is nominal it seems in the EV SX range but I believe they all peak at 800 watts if and when those peaks are hit. Collection (and testing) is great but it’s already boxed ready to go…..talk about post/courier if you are interested.
  12. As I said, ‘it should in theory work’ and happily yours did. My own experience with a so called lost package was quite different and only after a huge amount of phone calling did I find out where my music goods were, literally a mile from the sellers house in the couriers own warehouse and I suspect, it would have stayed there had I not persevered. Parcel2go at that time we’re not great to deal with. I’m sure a major percentage of our Basschat colleagues have no problems but it might be worth checking.
  13. I would be aware that unless dealing direct with a courier, dealing through a company like parcel2go is a little precarious…..they show all the different couriers on their own website and there are some great deals but, go into insuring and if anything goes amiss, you will be probably not be dealt with by them ( ie Parcel2Go or whoever) but you’ll have to start contacting the courier you chose. It should in theory work!
  14. I prefer these Miller heads to the regular heads…the eq seems tuned better (for me) and the old school and Miller effect have their uses…grab a foot pedal to switch eq “channels” and I think you’d be happy with it.
  15. SOLD… I added this sound clip from a recent recording of mine (onto Logic Pro X) when I was trying the pickups out recently...It is on a newly finished bass of mine, a four string bass with this actual single Nordy "P" pickup. Swamp ash body, maple neck and ebony fingerboard, D'Addario Nickel wound strings. I've played a simple riff across the strings testing the pickup with the different 'switching' tones from a Stellartone 6 (from Bass Direct), so you will hear different tones coming off the Stellartone. The pickup is even and as 'woody' as I'd think anyone needs from a 'P' pickup. A ‘pair’ of Nordstrands…P bass pickups as new in the box. I literally tested them on a new bass and they are really very good, never gigged…but I’ve gone with another make for this particular bass…..all in top condition…no screws. These obviously fit any 4 string width with ease. Bought new @ £115 . My price here includes U.K. signed for posting 1st class by Post Office ( the PO site says includes£50 insured cover, message if you need to review this). Bass Stellartone Triple 6 NORDSTRAND .mp3

  16. From what I’ve read over the years, some of these bassists where in the right place at the right time and made the right notes and feel work….they also did so many sessions, either per week or per day, that who played on what became a little ‘foggy’ as not all sessions were completely catalogued.
  17. Good news for the new set and service from Ernie Ball..
  18. I picked up a Phil Jones ‘Earbox’ for my acoustic bass gigs )or gigs with a low volume requirement !). It’s a no ohms load on the amp and puts a bit of your bass closer to you on a stand. Hope this pastes okay… https://philjonesbass.net/cms/index.php/product-eb-001/
  19. Maybe try micro mesh…..(hope this pastes up) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333641208471?hash=item4dae90d297:g:JBkAAOSwMmBVwRtd These sheets can be bought separately or as a ‘set, starting at 1500 ‘grit’. Used for polishing up wood after final sand paper use and before oiling. This 1500 sheet is not sand paper as such so there shouldn’t be any residue problem, unlike steel wool that will break off and small bits will go everywhere if you aren’t careful and gather around the magnetic pickups….strange idea that but I guess the ‘techs’ meant for you to take the strings off. I say send the strings back to them for an exchange. I did this with D’Addario, on their request, many years ago when they introduced half wounds strings and about the third set I used was ‘dead’ on arrival. I did the usual wash with surgical spirit on a cloth and tons of mini filings came off the strings. They simply hadn’t been washed off at the factory after being ground down.
  20. EBay initiated their global post service a few years ago, fairly unannounced which at the time had me and my buyer caught off guard as they lost the parcel somewhere in their new midlands warehouse but..... I got to keep my money and the seller was reimbursed and someone got a free MarkBass LMK! The whole courier business has altered it seems in recent times and I’ve had a 50% success rate of my full wine and beer deliveries coming through in one delivery, not over a few days after I’ve contacted the supplier who have twice said ‘courier problems’.
  21. You paid for post/ courier and the seller gave it over to someone at the door...hmmmmm? I assumed you’ve checked the sellers feedback on previous stuff.....next to try and find the phone number ( damned difficult) for an EBay operator and go through the whole thing.....this may help them to track or trace any unusual correspondence to and from this seller.......sorry to hear about this ordeal and loss of the cab, total let down for you. Could it be that Ebay just ‘may’ reimburse you if proved their system was at fault.....not a great way to spend Sunday! Good luck.
  22. Fall I know from an ‘expert’ friend is the software is buried in different areas of the computer and although you may think you’ve erased it, the prog still sits in various ‘places’ onboard...
  23. Ask the seller if you could arrange a courier to collect it from the sellers house......unless of course they are asking for cash on collection...which is what I had encountered last week.
  24. It should weigh 16 kg according to www.markbass.it
