  1. I picked up this bass recently but found the active 'mid' control not working. Not a real bother for me but I finally replaced it with an Ibanez part. Now I find the passive mode volume output has dropped a lot and against the 'active' mode volume, wouldn't be of use for live or recording. The huge amount of wiring inside this bass puts me off trying to correct this, its basically a mess in there. Everything is literally jammed in! Anyone know these issues at all as I'm thinking of disconnecting the active mid if necessary? Thanks.
  2. This may have been forwarded already…..I only use Neutrik jack plugs as the circumference always works in barrell sockets (Switchcraft). I’ve had similar contact problems but the use of Neutrik worked best. I have measured Jack plug circumferences on cheaper and Neutrik plugs and there is a difference. try this EBay supplier, they do different lengths. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284787881077?var=586456998876&_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20201018205123%26meid%3D8ecda6891dd34736862baf4f4dd2135e%26pid%3D101286%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26mehot%3Dag%26itm%3D586456998876%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26algv%3DWatchlistVariantWithMLR%26brand%3DNeutrik&_trksid=p2380057.c101286.m47999&_trkparms=pageci%3Ad3f1e549-c190-11ed-b676-e63a57ae2f19|parentrq%3Adab1c6c71860a0a539406299fffee55a|iid%3A1
  3. These are well thought of basses and made in Japan is a bonus. The price is pretty good too so it’s almost a whats not to like.
  4. Thanks for this …. I’ll wait a bit longer for any more replies but when you can, message me with what days/ times….thank you.
  5. I had to double read that one Mike….hope you are well.
  6. Thanks for responding but transit isnt required now for the cab....thanks. A long shot…I’m hoping to purchase a fellow Basschat’s cabinet from Northampton, times and gigs are making collection or meet up a bit difficult so far so I’m wondering if anyone does a regular(ish) drive from Northampton to Guildford area (I’m down the A3) and was able to ‘Basschat courier’ a cabinet for me for fuel or whatever?….thanks.
  7. Are you hitting the pickups by chance? They can be hit down against the foam or springs and when they spring/return back up to the screw height, can make ‘knock’ sound.
  8. https://www.realelectronics.co.uk/manufacturers.html I think this company is the official repairer one for MarkBass in the U.K.
  9. On this Basschat site:
  10. If money isn’t the problem the U.K. (made in Brighton) Barefaced Super Twelve is one of the tops, very lightweight and will take lots of energy with clear bottom end. They do come up here S/H now and then but…very expensive brand new. The new MarkBass single 12” cabs could be a great alternative. Good luck, always a dilemma!
  11. Excellent deal off Paul.Bigthumb, all sorted within a few days....Cheers Paul.
  12. I think it can be in line with any other amp to speaker situation as it doesn’t ‘draw’ on the amps impedance….so you could be running a 4 ohm amp into 4 ohm speaker(s) but still hook this up to the system without affecting the ohm load to the amp. I have one of these, they are very good and at last, your own dedicated bass monitor! The volume isn't anywhere near as loud as your main speaker but at ear height, especially in the acoustic setting, it gives a great ‘ear’ experience.
  13. Solder station.....power supply that you can attenuate and keeps the heat up when soldering, decent ones around £50-80 or more on Ebay
  14. .....but did Ben move to Canada some years ago?
  15. I’m sure it was a SM58 vocal mic, maybe the D12 drum mic would do a good job?
  16. My DB teacher of some years ago used a Shure mic wrapped in thickish foam, ‘jammed’ between the bridge feet with the mic head facing upwards in line with the fingerboard……plugged into a 30 watt valve amp and 12” speaker, great sound. (That teachers name was Roy Babbington).
  17. I find most side dots to be too small especially on Fender basses so always use 3mm white as white side dots when building or refurbing a bass. (I haven’t found 3mm luminous ones so far). The problem is if the fingerboard is ‘thin’ at the edges a clever bit of repositioning the centre of a new 3mm dot is required.
  18. Very fast deal, posted and speedily received 4 control knobs, even through postal strikes....cheers Jono!
