  1. That makes sense. Am I to assume then that the available headphone volume isn’t great unless the compressor is turned up?
  2. How’s the headphone amp section? As @dannybuoy says, if it’s on par with PJB BigHead quality then it’ll be ideal.
  3. So this thread seems to have died of natural causes. Anyone else pick one of these up?
  4. Is that ever going to happen?! @fretmeister, you’ve nailed this.
  5. Based on having briefly owned a non-parametric version of the Battering Ram pedal, I can only imagine how great these sound. Nice review, man!
  6. Indeed. The ability to use standard strings is huge for me. Opens up a whole world of possibilities and just generally makes life easier. Really can’t be arsed having to source a specific type of custom string!
  7. He has, but I’ve asked for the slightly extended scale which is where the problem lies. I may end up sacking off the extended scale option if finding something suitable proves more hassle than it’s worth!
  8. Re: my gigbag issue, I’ve found something which *might* work: https://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_urban_mini_strat_gig_bag_bk.htm will need to check dimensions to be certain but it looks like a strong contender. I’ll be wanting to make that F****r logo disappear.
  9. I’m sobbing myself to sleep this eve.
  10. Wow this does look lovely. Never been massively drawn to G&Ls but this one is very nice.
  11. Hmmm...so 20% of total value presumably?
  12. Here’s a couple I found the other day by a guy called Reznoc. His wing is definitely non-standard! Has the full body (with lower horn) of the Wingbass 30, and extended fretboard similar to what I’ve spec’d and dual pups but still, hopefully a useful demo of what these are capable of. Excuse the Christmas theme - he seems to have uploaded a ton of festive cover videos 😅
  13. I think the sticking point in my case is that I’m going for the newer body shape which has an upper horn and looks to be wider overall at the widest point than the “original” Wingbass shape. See below: I’ll obviously need to check with Andy himself for the actual dimensions but my instincts tell me I’d better look elsewhere. The overall length would be fine but that 9.5” to 7” body taper looks like it’ll be on the wrong side of snug:
  14. @Grantd, did you get stung by customs? And if so, what was the damage?
  15. Well I’ll be on tour round the UK with my next acting gig from mid-July onwards. Due to be in York in March 2019...by which time I’ll likely already be the proud owner of a Wingbass
  16. To be honest it’s almost entirely about feel. I don’t expect to gain much tonal,y to the extended scale but as a man of considerable size I reckon a little magnification may be in order! Really wish I’d badgered you to have a go on your Wingbass at the LBGS as I’m kinda shopping blind right now
  17. The split pickup is mainly aimed toward my collection of analog octavers. I may even put some Labella Black Nylon Tapes on it too. Honestly, the difference in tracking stability between my Sandberg VS4 (p-type) and my MTD Super 5 is pretty massive. All of my octavers track the Sandy like bloodhounds whereas the Super 5 is much more prone to glitching. I’m a little surprised they’ve never done a split P Wingbass before given how perfect they are for us bassists who are octave junkies. You may have a good point re: reversing the pups - although the fact it’s tuned an octave up could mean it won’t make a blind bit of difference? I.e. it’s not much different to me just playing my Sandberg P high up the fretboard? If it were something like a Kala Ubass California (massively cut down scale but still tuned at normal bass pitch) I suspect there’d be a more vast difference to be found between standard and reverse orientation. Still, definitely worth investigating... A concern i have is that because I’m going for a slightly extended scale compared to the standard Wingbass format, Andy won’t be able to provide me with a gigbag that fits and I’ll be in the lurch attempting to fashion something myself or have it swimming in a guitar bag. Another thing to think about!
  18. Surely whether the bass has a truss rod or not isn’t the issue - but the prices being discussed are what make these Fodera’s eligible for the thread title! Absolute madness.
  19. I know what you mean, it really ain’t cheap! But for me and my lifestyle/career it actually makes more sense to buy something this size than it does to spend the same money on a full scale instrument.
  20. As below, plus $40 to have the fretboard dyed from the 0-12th fret. Still debating the microPOG option as I owned one a couple of years ago for a day and immediately returned it as I wasn’t a fan of the tone at the time. Andy has said he would happily install an Aguilar Octamizer for me though! That’d be another couple hundred bucks on top... I’m thinking Aguilar or Nordstrand for the P-pickups. Leaning toward Aggy at the moment.
  21. Love the fade on the body! I’ve been speaking to Andy @ Wingbass myself lately. Really helpful guy who is pretty much willing to do almost anything I’ve suggested, which is very cool. I’m saving up...! edit: Saying that, based on the recent chat over in the ACG thread I may end up going the home grown route.
