  1. To be honest it’s almost entirely about feel. I don’t expect to gain much tonal,y to the extended scale but as a man of considerable size I reckon a little magnification may be in order! Really wish I’d badgered you to have a go on your Wingbass at the LBGS as I’m kinda shopping blind right now
  2. The split pickup is mainly aimed toward my collection of analog octavers. I may even put some Labella Black Nylon Tapes on it too. Honestly, the difference in tracking stability between my Sandberg VS4 (p-type) and my MTD Super 5 is pretty massive. All of my octavers track the Sandy like bloodhounds whereas the Super 5 is much more prone to glitching. I’m a little surprised they’ve never done a split P Wingbass before given how perfect they are for us bassists who are octave junkies. You may have a good point re: reversing the pups - although the fact it’s tuned an octave up could mean it won’t make a blind bit of difference? I.e. it’s not much different to me just playing my Sandberg P high up the fretboard? If it were something like a Kala Ubass California (massively cut down scale but still tuned at normal bass pitch) I suspect there’d be a more vast difference to be found between standard and reverse orientation. Still, definitely worth investigating... A concern i have is that because I’m going for a slightly extended scale compared to the standard Wingbass format, Andy won’t be able to provide me with a gigbag that fits and I’ll be in the lurch attempting to fashion something myself or have it swimming in a guitar bag. Another thing to think about!
  3. Surely whether the bass has a truss rod or not isn’t the issue - but the prices being discussed are what make these Fodera’s eligible for the thread title! Absolute madness.
  4. I know what you mean, it really ain’t cheap! But for me and my lifestyle/career it actually makes more sense to buy something this size than it does to spend the same money on a full scale instrument.
  5. As below, plus $40 to have the fretboard dyed from the 0-12th fret. Still debating the microPOG option as I owned one a couple of years ago for a day and immediately returned it as I wasn’t a fan of the tone at the time. Andy has said he would happily install an Aguilar Octamizer for me though! That’d be another couple hundred bucks on top... I’m thinking Aguilar or Nordstrand for the P-pickups. Leaning toward Aggy at the moment.
  6. Love the fade on the body! I’ve been speaking to Andy @ Wingbass myself lately. Really helpful guy who is pretty much willing to do almost anything I’ve suggested, which is very cool. I’m saving up...! edit: Saying that, based on the recent chat over in the ACG thread I may end up going the home grown route.
  7. A lovely collection, plenty of bases covered. No pun intended. Intrigued by the Schecter CV...how “precisiony” can you get it to sound?
  8. Very very nice - loving what they’ve done with that bottom horn!
  9. You really aren’t helping my Sire P7 GAS!
  10. Jesus Christ. Fretless as well!
  11. That orange juice is a little beast!
  12. Pearl pickguard perchance? 🤔
  13. Yamaha BB1025X. The tone made me grin from ear to ear every time.
  14. These are utterly excellent. So good I have two of them!
  15. @Zampa, what’s your budget? I was about to recommend a Phil Jones Double Four but it seems that may be over budget at around £300 used. If you can pick up a used Line 6 Studio 110 it may be exactly what you’re looking for and for not all that much money either. 4 band EQ, DI out, some basic amp modelling, one knob compressor, headphone output. I’ve had one for years and it’s served me very well.
  16. Seems the answer to the thread title is, “anything but an SM58”
  17. £2005 for me. Edit: actually that should be euros, so more like £1775
  18. Fantastic amps. In fact, this may have been mine once upon a time! GLWTS.
  19. It’s a big +1 from me. Lovely clear tone and Hypercardiod pattern so rejects stage bleed well. Requires slightly more accuracy from the performer in terms of staying on axis but IMO it’s well worth it. Great mics.
  20. A handsome looking rig! And I agree - these logos are much better than the geetar equivalent.
  21. They are indeed fantastic! Good price too.
  22. I recorded my clips a few days ago but I’m having some technical difficulties with my TC wiretap! With any luck I’ll be able to sort it out soon...
  23. Good god. I’m all for making a profit but this seems to be a prime example of a company taking people for fools. And the sad truth is, a lot of folk seem to be exactly that. Darkglass have clearly done their homework and taken a leaf out of Aguilar’s book
  24. What they seem to have done, in the UK at least, is created a market in which the only Aguilar gear people are prepared to buy is used Tried their new Grape Phaser at the LBGS and as soon as I saw the price (over £200 for a basic 2-knob pedal that sounded “fine”) I had to make my excuses and abandon ship. I can’t see them selling any units over here.
  25. LOVE this finish!
