1. Yeah an LS2 will do it. I got the idea from Roey Haviv on YouTube and he used an LS2 in his video.
2. Yeah I'm pretty sure that's how the FX loop works on the T65. Having that separation between octave and dirt signals can be really useful. I run a parallel loop on my board with a DOD Meatbox for that exact purpose. It's tasty.
3. I reckon the Okto Nøjs is my most frequently stomped pedal at the moment. Both of its circuits are just fantastic. But please, nobody else buy one. I'm the only one on Basschat with these toanz right now
4. To clarify, the Wonderlove is great but I subsequently found I could get a better/smoother fingerstyle tone more easily from an Aguilar Filter Twin and. Enter synthy results from my Manta. Of course, filters are even more subjective than octavers as far as reacting differently with different people's basses & technique so it really can be a case of "one man's trash is another man's treasure" here... Check out this big comparison post over on TB: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/mr-black-fwonkbeta-envelope-filter.1210977/page-8#post-18561343 Of the pedals on his list which I've owned and used, he's pretty much spot on with his assessments.
5. Well I sold my Wonderlove on a few weeks ago but still have the Manta, so make of that what you will! Never tried a Robotalk but I've just watched a video demo and it sounds good.
6.
There's a guy on Facebook plays a 7 string version.
Ah yeah I've seen that. I think he's an official wingbass endorser. It's an über custom model with all the bell & whistles available, exotic woods etc. If we're thinking of the same guy that is...?
7. If that COG comes off hold I'll be all over it!
8. The Manta's larger footprint is completely worth it as it has two footswitchable presets. The jacks are also top mounted so, depending on which patch cables you use, the difference in footprint vs MXR BEF may not be as huge as it initially seems. Also, IMO you can get the Manta to sound like the MXR but there are so many sounds in the Manta that you'll never have a hope of replicating with the BEF alone. As far as pure bang for your buck I have to say Source Audio really nail it. There's a reason they have such a huge thread over on Talkbass - a lot of folk over there run purely (or mostly) SA boards with the hub and a MIDI switcher to give them access to literally hundreds of tonal combinations. Anyway, so as to avoid derailing the thread - I'm really eagerly waiting for Source Audio to release an octave pedal...but it seems that their focus is on support for the Nemesis delay and Ventris reverb, along with expanding the Neuro app and Neuro Hub (AKA Soundblox Hub, they're the same thing). Looks like we may have quite a long wait for a SA octave/pitch pedal, much to my chagrin!
9. Going cheap, less than 2 days left. https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/122695561981
10. If you're looking at filters I have to say the Fwonkbeta I've just acquired is awesome in conjunction with my octavers and dirt pedals as it brings so much low end. It's massive. One of the reasons I got rid of my MXR Bass Envelope Filter was that it's bandpass and therefore isn't anywhere near as thick a sound as I like, particularly when running octave pedals. Oh and a big fat honourable mention goes to the Source Audio Manta. The palette of synthy sounds possible out of that thing is huge, especially as you can blend a selection of distortions into the filter all within the pedal. It might take a little while (not very long) to get to grips with editing it but since everything is accessible from the front panel you can knob tweak physically without being tied to an app.
11. Ooh I don't think I've seen that one on the COG website. Looks tasty.
12. I didn't realise the trial applied elsewhere in Europe! That's very good.
13. Still curious about whether the headphones in that photo are plugged into the board or if it's just the camera angle playing tricks on me...
14. Surely Barefaced's trial period exists precisely so that people don't have to rely solely on what Alex says. If you aren't willing to take the plunge based purely on his what he says (unbiased or otherwise) then simply try the cabs for yourself and if you don't like 'em, return 'em. If you're thinking of replacing your current cabs with BF ones then you can literally compare them side by side without having to sell your current ones first. Can't say fairer than that IMO and to be honest I wish more companies - especially new/unknown ones claiming to be better than their more established competition - operated a similar system.
15.
I found that the Aguilar OBP-3 was also a very good preamp, colouring the sound of course, but in a good manner, I mean to bass players taste. But don't go too far as it will sound too much compressed.
Truth. I've got an OBP3 in my Ibanez BTB and the level of boost and cut available is pretty huge. Just a little turn of the knobs produces a lot of tonal change. Some may be overwhelmed by how much power is on tap but I like it as I use the BTB as my "effects" bass. I use the powerful preamp to adjust the response of certain pedals on my board. It's very useful for my needs.
16. It's becoming more and more apparent that I need to get my backside over to BassDirect at some point in the near future and try some of these basses out in the flesh.
17. 4 hour gig with this on? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263186517593
18.
Are you using a headphone straight out of the board?
I'm intrigued by this too. Definitely looks like it's plugged straight in.
19. I recently bought one of these from GisserD of this parish and I'm floored at how many decent synthy sounds you can get out of a pedal that cost £50! Madness. It actually has the potential to replace 2 or 3 different pedals so if pedalboard space is tight this is quite a competent jack of many trades.
20. It's rapidly climbing up my "favourite pedals" list and I think it will stay there for quite some time. So versatile.
