Quick review - Protection Racket Gig Case

Ah, that's good. If I had to choose, I'd much prefer to have rigidity in the front and back than the much thinner sidewalls. -
Quick review - Protection Racket Gig Case

Does this Protection Racket bag have any rigidity to it? Clearly the front "door" is able to flop down indicating the answer is probably no, but is there much stiffness to the sidewalls? -
You should be fine, but if you have problems try using a gigrig isolator (still powered by the 1spot).
+1. It's difficult to predict whether you'll have any noise until you actually connect up the pedals and turn them on! Power hungry digital pedals can often be a noise culprit but it looks like you aren't planning on using anything like that at the moment so you should be ok. If not, Elephantgrey's advice above re: a gigrig Isolator is solid. Also, you probably already know this but when you activate an overdrive/distortion/fuzz there will be some degree of hiss...it's just the nature of the effect but not a problem once you start playing and it goes away when you switch the pedal off. Not to be confused with electrical noise!

This is by no means a definitive order, but my chain usually goes something like Tuner > Compressor > Octavers > Envelope Filter > Overdrive/Distortion/Fuzz > Chorus > (any other weird stuff) > Delay > Reverb. That's a fairly standard order. There's no real right or wrong though so experiment with switching things around - the worst that can happen is it sounds bad

So I've had my THR10 for a few days now and am really enjoying it. Yamaha have marketed it perfectly by calling it the "third amp". You won't be getting any heft or wall shaking SPL but putting a bass through it sounds like bass. I'm using it for what it was intended for - low volume practice - and for that it excels. I've found playing quietly through it at night with flatmates sleeping in nearby rooms is a more enjoyable experience than playing through headphones which can feel a bit disconnected. Though headphones will still be king for use with my pedalboard, especially since I'm a heavy octave pedal user. But if I was going to be bringing the THR somewhere with me I wouldn't bring a pedalboard anyway as there are enough effects on board to satisfy. Not obsessing over pedals and just concentrating on a nice basic bass sound has already meant that I've focused on actually PLAYING BASS over the past few days. That in itself is a huge plus and makes it worth keeping! Playing music through the Aux input is perfect for bass practice as the sound of playback isn't very bass heavy at all. Mids and highs are nice and overall it has quite a "wide" sound if that makes any sense. It's like it's deliberately leaving me sonic space for playing along with my bass. For pure music playback though, I'll be sticking with my trusty Bose Soundlink Mini. I'll keep that little magic box until my dying day. In summary, the THR10 wasn't an absolutely necessary purchase as I have other practice solutions which can cover similar ground. However nothing I have does it quite as elegantly, or in as neat a package, as the THR10.

Quick review - Protection Racket Gig Case

Oh dear, that's no good for me then. It's a shame as the Mono sleeves are great looking but on a practical level that is pretty disastrous. You'd think they would have tested for that, especially given how much the Monos cost! -
Well the SB1 is phantom powered...will you have guaranteed access to phantom power in all the situations you'll be using it? If so then go for it. How long a distance do you usually have to cover from the DI box to mixer/interface? If you're having to cover really long distances then the active SB1 is the better choice but if your cable runs won't be that long then you have very little to lose by going for the passive SB2.

Magellan 800 - any reason not to go for it?
CameronJ replied to scrumpymike's topic in Amps and Cabs
I know sweet FA about the Magellan 800 but if your dealer has as good a returns policy as you say they have then you should have nothing to lose. Trying it out with your own cabs in your own environment will always be better than trying it out in store with an unfamiliar room and unfamiliar basses. Do it! -

Hmmm...as an owner of a couple of angled headstock basses, that alone is enough in favour of the Protection Racket. Why is it that the Mono doesn't work so well with angled headstocks? Is it just that it doesn't have any raised support for the neck? -
I have the more bulky version and indeed, the bulk is a drawback - but it's the only drawback. It's a superb gig bag if the bulk doesn't matter.
+1. All my basses, electric and acoustic, are cased in Protection Racket cases and I've never once doubted their durability. This new one may have to be next on the shopping list. Now I just need a new bass to put inside it... -
Just had a shipping confirmation from Sennheiser with a UPS tracking number! Very excited.

This looks like a direct competitor to the Mono sleeve at half the price. Have you used the Mono? And if so how would you compare the two? -
Looks good, nice work John. Now all you need to do is desperately fend off any pangs of pedal GAS in future. It's a slippery slope...

Mostly just for listening pleasure, although I will probably use them with bass too through my PJB BigHead. Part of the reason I wanted them was that you can plug a 3.5mm cable into them for passive wired use
-
Honestly, I was surprised that the prices were better than almost all of the "used" prices I could find on eBay and I believe the refurbs come with a proper Sennheiser warranty too which is a bonus.

Just bought a COG T-16 from Peter. Great communication throughout and the pedal arrived quickly in mint condition. Would happily do business again.
I'm always wary of "free vouchers" as they often coincide with a glut of new junk mail and spam...but then I am a cynical old b4stard. Hope I'm wrong (it happened once before, I believe).
Ordinarily I'd be just as wary of them as you are. Surprisingly though, not only did the code work but i didn't have to submit my email address or any other details to get it. Winner winner chicken dinner. It was the official Sennheiser store outlet. As in, I went to the Sennheiser website, navigated to the store and then clicked "outlet". I even did it twice just to make sure.

Either I've just got myself an amazing deal or I'm about to be sorely disappointed. As is so often the case with refurbished/b-stock items there can be very little to distinguish them from "new" items. With this in mind I was browsing the Sennheiser online outlet and ended up ordering a set of refurbished Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless headphones. I've been lusting after these cans for a long time, ever since the originals came out a few years ago and I tested them out in Currys. They were already about £100 less than new in the outlet store but just for the hell of it I thought I'd try and find a discount code online. I literally googled "Sennheiser outlet discount code" and managed to find one that looked promising. I applied the code at checkout and was told I had gained an extra £40 off! Madness. Order confirmed. It all seemed a bit too easy to be honest so a part of me is kind of waiting to be disappointed. Delivery was free too We shall see. Watch this space!

I've have never had much desire to buy a wah pedal (I own 3 Envelope filters) but this thread is now giving me GAS. Thanks guys...
Radial StageBug SB-2, super small passive DI that is affordable and will do what you need. I have one and it has saved my bandmates a few times now in live situations when we needed and extra DI for keys, synth or an acoustic guitar. The SB-1 is the active one that needs phantom power to operate and is a good alternative if you are using a passive bass only, without any pedals or a preamp.
This. I also have the SB-2 and it's great. Passive, sounds great, built well. I don't think I'll ever sell mine!
