1. Apologies if this has been posted before but I found this video and thought it may be of use to those wondering about the performance of the Smooth Hound. It's with guitar but you get the idea! http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x355f1s
2.
Thanks. I'm a bit of a tart when it comes to basses, so if it doesn't work for me, it may well end up back up for sale on here - keep an eye out!
Congrats on the purchase! Let us know how she plays
3. Thomann seem to stock a couple of sets of Fodera 5-String sets with high Cs.
4. Is it bad that I'm tempted by this despite literally just having bought a spectracomp 2 weeks ago?
5. If you want fun then I'd suggest an envelope filter and/or octave pedal.
6. If you want to go analog then I'll wholeheartedly recommend an Aguilar Octamizer. The breadth of sounds you can get with the filter knobs is sublime - goes from smooth and dubby to gnarly and synthy.
7. Goodness. I'm not mad about the colour but everything else about it sure looks tasty.
8. Not sure I've ever seen the BF Two10s without the silver cloth grilles but I've gotta say I prefer seeing the cones through the bare metal grille as in your pics. Also, very sexy wood grain on that Maruszczyk.
9.
Ahhh! Takes me back! One of the first PA's a band I was in had those 'lovely' WEM PA cabinets:
Ha. This is exactly what I had in mind. I hadn't considered the issues of fitting in car boots though.
10. So I'm sure most of us have read about how stacking a couple of 2x10s together apparently produces a much more evenly dispersed sound (I say apparently as I've never tried it in person) but why is it that I've never seen a 4x10 cab which comes constructed this way? It would be sort of like a "slim fridge". Those of you with photoshop skills feel free to do a mock up. I guess awkwardness and stability are possible factors here but in many ways I think it would be easier to transport than traditionally oriented 4x10s? Especially with wheels and a top handle. And a modular 8x10 configuration would still be possible by simply placing 2 side by side. You could even angle one of them out slightly to spread the sound out a bit more across the stage. Is this a ridiculous suggestion? Discuss.
11. Must be the lighting in the video but somehow that looks like a lined fretless? Edit: it surely can't be, since it definitely sounds fretted...
12. I have to say, I've just read through this entire 11 page thread and now have serious GAS for a Smooth Hound system! I'm not even gigging at the moment but I don't care - if nothing else it will neaten up the cables from off my bedroom floor
13. I've not tried any of the amps you've mentioned but it may be worth considering one of the new Hartke combos. Tried one out in the Yamaha music store in London and was quite impressed by how good it sounded even with a 5 string.
14. And a bump from me for a handsome brute of a bass.
15. In the end there was only 1 bidder (madness) and he/she will soon be the proud owner of this.
16.
I now have expensive pedal GAS. Thanks!
+1...
17. Something about this is incredibly sexy. And I usually hate silver basses. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252927047008
18.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/31y8bmq1h40fry8/20170507_185622.jpg?dl=0 it works...heres my Pbass my Ricky and my Wal.
Incredible value for money then!
19.
They're selling [s]make up brushes[/s] guitar dusters, and somebody bought one. Weird.
Ha! Just seen that. On one hand I can almost commend their entrepreneurial spirit. On the other hand...
20. I keep returning to this thread just to drool. Do you have any more pics?
21. Sade is definitely one of my favourite artists of all time. Actually, I've had a serious hankering in the last year or two to play bass in a Sade tribute band. Chances of that happening though - even in London - are slim. Finding a frontwoman to fill those shoes must surely be like looking for a needle in a haystack??
22. Ugh. I've just re-read the OP's post and link. Misleadingly rebadged Reidmar 250 it is then.
