Why are some manufacturers still using mahogany, ebony etc
CameronJ replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
The comments are true re: different species of Mahogany. For example, Dingwall use Khaya for their D-Bird/D-Roc bodies. According to Wikipedia: -
USB hubs that work with audio interfaces?
CameronJ replied to Jakester's topic in Accessories and Misc
This is a slightly left-field suggestion which I’m sure involves spending more money than you intended, but take a look at the Arturia Audiofuse interface. It’s incredibly versatile and has a built in powered USB hub built in. Best interface I’ve owned to date. Special mention to the Akai EIE which also has A powered hub built in, though I’ve never used one so can’t vouch for it in use. It’s also considerably larger than the Audiofuse. -
Yep! Same here. Carey really nailed the tweaks

For those who don’t know how the Acinonyx came about, here’s what it’s based on: Goya Panther Bass

The new tort guard looks better than the stock Sire tort one too! Nice and lively - works really well against the black body IMO.

I’ve been following the development of this bass for over a year now and have to say I love it. FWIW I seem to remember Carey Nordstrand talking about the switches in a video months ago, saying he took great pains to have them be as reliable as possible. Black & Tort or Seafoam Green for me, I reckon. Though I won’t be in a position to get one until after the pandemic realistically.

If going direct to a board/interface I just prefer the sound of my bass without a cab sim. Unless I’m going for a specific “amped” sound, which would be genre dependent usually

I’m 29 and they make me feel old! I just prefer the sound of my bass without a cab sim. Really not sure why one can’t just stick a decent EQ after the OD/distortion/fuzz to tame the high end and sweeten things up. I run Helix (Stomp) so this I appreciate this is easier for me to achieve than those without a similar kind of unit.

Oh dear. Still, could’ve got Status to make you a cheeky carbon neck and had it painted to match 👀

And you sold it?!

I’m speaking particularly about the Fender custom shop. Their “normal” lines are typically pretty great for the money these days.

Thomastik Infeld (TI) flats! I love them but a few players I know have described them as too low in tension. Very similar to rounds tension-wise, but with the smooth texture of flats. Great feel and great tone IMO.

Yeah, the inserts are all moveable

Folk who are married to the “F” logo, yes. Those of us who are enlightened to the virtues of other (often better quality/value) luthiers know better!

QUICK POLL: Terminology smackdown - Pickguard or Scratchplate?
CameronJ replied to wateroftyne's topic in Bass Guitars
“Scratchplate” almost implies it’s there to attract scratches, whereas “pickguard” suggests protection from picks. I’d prefer the latter on my bass -

@Jean-Luc Pickguard you have been summoned. -
True, I paid more like £400 in customs duty on a ~£1600 Bass last year, though it was from the USA, if that makes any difference at all??

Budget basses that are way better than their prices suggest

Never seen one in the flesh but I‘ve only heard good things! I’m planning on buying one some day once the pandemic is over. There are some good reviews on YouTube.
