I’ve honestly never seen a relic job better than this. Even down to the way the exposed wood seems to have a bit of grime in the grain! And the great thing is despite how heavily the body is aged, the neck and hardware are only very lightly aged, so zero effect on the usability of the bass. Take a look on Reverb as Xotic do some quite spectacular finishes -both guitars and basses - most of which seem to be from Japanese or US sellers. It’s borderline pornographic

Ah! The edit button has moved! It now lives on the three dots at the top right of a post. Click the dots and report/share/edit appears! False alarm. It used to live next to the “quote” button at the bottom of posts.

I don’t actually need to edit any of my posts right now, but I just noticed the edit button had disappeared. I’m on my iPad if that makes any difference, but it always worked fine in the past.

Am I going mad? It seems the edit function is no longer visible on my own posts?

The aged burgundy one with the toggle switches is a ”normal” 2020 XJ-1T. V/V/T knob config. The switches adjust the mid and high frequency centres, respectively. Push/pull on the 1st volume knob goes from active/passive and the push/pull on the 2nd volume knob puts the pickups into series wiring. The gold one without the switches is a 2021 XJ-1T Lite with V/B/T knob config. The Lite models don’t have the preamp frequency switches but otherwise the preamp is the same. The bodies on the Lite models are apparently slimmed down slightly to help bring the weight down. The Gold Lite is bang on 9lbs, the Burgundy XJ is just under 10lbs. Both basses are made in Japan. Fit and finish is flawless! I’ve never tried the cheaper “XJ-Pro” series basses - none of the finish options took my fancy but by all accounts they were good basses. Discontinued now though…they didn’t last long!

For the first few years I played bass, I gravitated toward a thick, round, bass-heavy tone, basically the closer it sounded to a synth sine wave the better. I actively avoided Fender style basses and turned my nose up at them. As time went on (and I realised I could get pedals to achieve the synthy thing) I started enjoying the “classic” bass sounds more and more, culminating in the purchase of a Yamaha BB1025X PJ bass. And the Precision pickup rabbit hole began. To date I’ve now owned 5 basses with P pickups and 2 with Jazz configs. I like the idea of owning a stingray but somehow I can’t quite develop a love for the tone of them the way I love the tone of Js and Ps. Maybe one day…

I’ve got 2 Xotic XJ5s, one normal and one “lite”. Here’s the gold Lite with flats on the neck pickup: I love them - great feel and tone, and as has been said by others the preamp is really well implemented.

Same here! Oh well, I’m still GASing for a Limelight Flea Jazz in shell pink with a tort guard. Or maybe a Precision in the same colours. Or maybe a Guy Pratt “Betsy” Jazz in Burgundy mist with a Parchment guard…

This is literally the only complaint I have about my Dingwall. I’ve gotten around it by using my left hand to get a palm muted sound. Personally I’ve never noticed or cared about any sonic benefits to multiscale basses, but I do find them very very easy to play. The ergonomics of my Super PJ5 make it feel like a much shorter scale than it actually is. It’s a great design.

I’ve emailed Mark - awaiting response. I’m in LA at the moment so the -8hr time zone difference means I’ll probably get a reply when I’m fast asleep! I forgot to ask whether he does short scales as well. Has anyone ever ordered a Limelight Mustang for example…?

Maybe I’ve missed something but has Limelight ever made a ‘51 or ‘56 style single coil Precision?

Been tempted by a Limelight build of late (even though he won’t do 5 stringers ) but am wondering what sort of price they usually end up sitting in? I know I could just email him but I have no idea what spec I’d be after yet.

Lettieri is a beast. Got to see him live with Snarky Puppy near King’s Cross a few years back. Just phenomenal.

Can’t blame him for wanting to reduce stress and simplify the business but it will be a real loss to the bass world.
