Oh bloody hell - that is a tragic state of affairs. I guess I'm kind of spoiled to work in the theatre scene (as an actor, not usually a musician) and monitors & IEMs are totally the norm for bands in shows. Seeing as my mother's milk is scarce out of me (I'm the ripe old age of 27) I just don't harbour any nostalgia for tubes and valves.
Oooh. I was toying with the propect of one of his new VT1-Pros a while back. Didn't pull the trigger, mainly because the TC Spectradrive came out, which I have also failed to pull the trigger on. So here I am, preampless and barren.
That brought a smile to my face! Good to hear that even a "mere" 10-incher can shake the room and strike fear into the hearts of your bandmates! It'll be a long while off yet but I really can't wait for the first time i get to use my HD32a at war volume...😈
Yeah I’ve noticed that too. It’s a bit of a lottery! Just means folk like us are on the edge of our seats constantly refreshing the website in case a nice deal pops up - this being a good example.
Absurdly, there’s already a sage green Player Jaguar for sale in the preowned section of Bass Direct. I’m tempted but will hold out for a tidepool...

And I hope you deleted your Basschat account during that period! 😅
My tally is 3 electrics and 2 electro-acoustics. Hopefully a WingBass will be added to the stable late this year/early next year.
Thanks for clarifying that. I thought the second knob was stacked, but it must just be the reflection from the pickguard! I'm sure this wont hang around for long.
I have to say I’d had no real interest or GAS for a Stingray until late last year when I paid a visit to Bass Direct and tried a couple. I was very pleasantly surprised at how good they felt and sounded. I played a 4 (Old Smoothie, 2eq) and a 5 (3eq) and both were really nice. Since then I’ve had a tiny voice in the back of my head whispering to me that I need a Stingray in my arsenal. Hmmm...
I have one of these (in red with 5 strings) and can confirm it is excellent. Really lightweight, lovely neck and incredibly versatile tonally- in large part because each pickup is switchable between series/parallel/single coil. I love it but it’s nowhere near a precision shape so that may be a dealbreaker for the OP.
It should be noted, however, that when I bought the Polytune clip it was the same price as the Unitune is now being sold for. I’m sure we can all work out the reasons for this. I’ll give you a clue: it rhymes with Brexit.
As far as I’m aware there’s only the Polytune clip and the Unitune clip. The Unitune is cheaper as it doesn’t have the ability to detect the pitch of multiple strings at the same time - a feature which is pretty much useless for bassists anyway IMO.
I have the Polytune clip (bought about 3 years ago when it was the only clip model TC made) and find it to be both sturdy and reliable.
The tuners come in either black or white, which may be adding to your confusion!
