Everything except the last two - I doubt that anyone will be impressed by my playing, anyway. Private jams/rehearsals would be better for actually practicing, but that involves finding enough people who are interested and somewhere to play. It's certainly a hassle to carry the gear and not play much, although the last jam I went to was fun (got to play on four tunes and not look too incompetent). Luckily there are some decent gigs to attend around this area if I only want to listen.

Also for some who are not of a certain age! I wasn't born until the 70s and didn't listen to The Shadows until the late 80s but they were an important influence, eventually getting me going in the direction of jazz. Stuff like this was awesome.

The advice given above sounds good to me. Another possibility, should you like working that way, would be to write your book using LaTeX* and self-publish on Lulu. I've got a martial arts book on there at present which contains a lot of photos. Those looked interesting as well, but I couldn't find any I was able to try out and so settled on the 801. I'd also like to hear any opinions from anyone who's tried one.

I got to try this out last night - first time playing jazz in public since last century. Anyway, it seems sufficient for the task with the gain on 1/2 and the volume on around 1/3, with the amp under a table in the corner of the room. I don't pluck particularly loudly but I could be heard comfortably amongst a variety of acoustic guitars, some sax/trumpet players (usually only one at a time) and a drummer playing with brushes.

I’ve still got my highland bagpipes (c. 1987), though opportunities to practice on them are hard to find.

I presumed that it was simply cheaper for them to offer a lined one only. Unfortunately for me, I find the lines a bit confusing and the side dots in the wrong place; the first bass I had was an unlined fretless and I've got used to that. Good choices. ;-) I should perhaps add that I don't much fancy playing fretted basses but would buy a '51 P reissue for the Monk Montgomery connection: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/17494060.2015.1085888

I saw this thread title and hoped that it might contain some particularly hardcore intonation exercises. Still, vulgar French songs are quite entertaining instead.

With a bit of cash in hand from a bass sale I went for this one (Marcus Miller CMD 101). Great tone with no EQ applied and completely clean with the gain on full. It's also light and small and probably loud enough for the sort of gigs I used to do and would like to do again.

DuckDuckGo is a pretty good replacement these days; I rarely need to try a Google search. Anyway, step 3 of that particular guide can't be completed as the only formats on offer from the advanced tool are "auction" and "fixed price".

Probably, but it is an amusing thought. Their support people did get back to me to claim that there's a "classified ad" option that allows cash on collection, but I'm damned if I can find where they've hidden it.

Not only are the users often time-wasters, but so are Ebay themselves. After spending 20 minutes preparing a listing, they refuse to list it as I won't accept Paypal for something that really needs to be cash on collection.

It doesn't necessarily have to be Markbass, though there are reasons to favour them as mentioned above. A 100w Rumble is very tempting for the weight though in another thread there were comments about them not being very loud. The 200 might be worth a try but seems to be very slightly too heavy/bulky, from the description.
