Could I be so bold as to suggest these are collected by a member then we run a raffle for which tickets can be bought through one of the mods to raise maximum cash for charity/basschat? ....just.a thought. J.

was pleased to have dealt with Fran back in 2005 when I bought the prs Bass 4 from him & again today when it returned to him. great guy to deal with on all levels, was so good of him to bring his dingwalls up for me to check out. I have to highlight that Fran looks after his kit exceptionally well. hope you had safe journey back, Justin.

Any chance of you bringing this beauty when you come to see me in july? I'm in love ! Great collection - any more fanned fret purchases planned? -
two good ones from my memory - -1- around 1996 did a local pub gig with mostly own material. All went very well, good crowd and we played through to 'chucking out time'. At this point landlord pays us and asks us to play a couple of songs for his bouncers whilst they have their after hours pint before we pack up. sounds like a great big pat on the back? well you'd think so, except the bouncers from all locall pubs and clubs drip fed in (all part of the same 'family') and everytime someone new came in they'd shout "play f**king wonderwall again for soandso"! over 40 people of an overbearing physical presence fully tooled had arrived when we made moves to leave (around 2am). The landlord brought in his 2 pitbulls and persuaded us to continue playing. Finally at about 3am the police arrived, having been called by the residents nearby, and we were finally able to leave. As all of our gigs were in local pubs under the same protection and so were the boozers we frequented socially this was the first of many a night ending in similar stories... eventually they became more 'mates', less scary & actually plied us with cash & alcohol to get us to stay so not every gig was all bad. -2- Embassy Theatre Skegness 1998 - conservative party conference. seemed like a great gig to land, turn-up, plug in and play to 800 - 1000 people. we were give full star treatment back stage with runners and stage director in the wings. Front of house we had 2 sound engineers (ours and theirs) a lighting guy & three people on follow spots. here is where it all falls apart... The free bar was in the annex, there was no drinking or smoking in the auditorium & to top it all the hired a 6 piece party function band to play to a 1100+ all seater venue. As you can imagine this gave rise to a virtually empty gig and th bass seemed so far back in the mix I split open my fingers trying to get dynamics into disco inferno (which was in first set) - there were no plasters in their firstaid kit so I played second set gaffa-taped up. client happy so got paid, and left hoping Mark Griffiths who was playing there with Hank Marvin a couple of nights later got a better crowd!
I wonder if it would be possible to combine a torzal twist and novax fanned frets and how playable it'd be. Or at least how long before it'd make you feel sea sick.
I like this concept of combining the two technologies... I wonder if it's possible?
It looks incredible, I could spend all day playing it. I imagine the cost will be very high though.
The Torzal standard starts at $3300 for a 4string and $3500 for a 5er customs are poa!
I wasn't familiar with this bass, so I looked it up...wow! http://littleguitarworks.com/instruments/custom-instruments/
I wondered if anyone had heard of these when i put it on my list - Doesn't it make you want to pick it up just looking at it

1, Paul Reed Smith, Massive PRS fan and a PS custom build would have to be #1 2. Bernie Goodfellow, Rumour bass I'd love to try, heard good reports and fantastic sounds recorded from them, love the body shape (no pun intended bernie!) 3. Dingwall, Prima artist - I want to try out the fanned fretting and hear the extra sustain in the low B... 4. Carl Thompson, 10 million dollar bass - not really to play but to hold and admire the craftmanship! 5. Jerome Little, Xavier Padilla Custom - an ergonomic bass has to be in the top 5 braking the mould to fit your body/the way you play it seems a great concept so here it is at number 5. I'd hope to get a good 12months+ playing with them before i died, not just stolen moments at a shop or in between someone elses sets

Whilst I generally like the GG basses this one has to be the fugliest they've made I think with a different neck it would be 1000% nicer

Big thank you to all for your help I am going to work on my theory over the next few months, nail small sections of a song at a time through increased repetition, switch to using chord charts where needed and for whatever my next project is record rehearsals for reference. again, thanks for your support my confidence took a knock because of the situation and comments from the last band which left me wondering if I was capable at all, by taking time to work on the things suggested I hope to be able to continue with playing live. -juicex
Learn to read music.
Bilbo - I think that with my current impairment learning to sight read music could prove tricky despite its clear advantages.
We all know my opinions on tab,so I won't go on about it. There is nothing wrong with having some charts written out for reference-not tab though. The more you play the songs the easier you will remember them,it's just a matter of repetition-some people learn faster than others. Also, this is where some basic theory knowledge will help, because rather than trying to remember every song and chord individually, you will learn to recognise and understand standard chord changes and intervals which(i find)will make it easier to remember more tunes.
Doddy, I think the theory side is a good place for me to invest my time to help overcome my issues, after all if i can't recall a set piece the theory would allow me to at least improvise a section on demand. To that end do you guys have any reccomendations for further reading or DVD suggestios? I'm tempted to look at the RGT course books... - juice

just noticed I put "I have memory issues short-term" that should have read "I have short-term memory issues" LOL my problems are here to stay I think!
Depends, are you just playing over chords or are you playing over a set bassline? If it's the former, then making a small crib sheet and leaving it on your amp just saying the chord sequence for each song, assuming they're usual 4 chord sequences, shouldn't be such a big deal.
last band I played for needed me to play Me First & The Gimme Gimmies tracks note for note to the originals. That was why I thought writing out the main phrases in tab along with the song structure would help until we had the set ready to gig. I find it interesting that the Vocalists were ok with having full lyrics on a music stand throughout - whats the difference I wonder?

hi guys, here is the long and short - I have memory issues short-term due to the meds I'm taking (all on prescription!). Recently I have put alot of effort into learning material but been unable to secure a slot with a coupleof bands because I refer to my tab notes a lot during initial rehersals. Guitarist from last band said "you can't sight read tab, you need to learn the tunes". I would welcome your opinion as I have decided to spend some serious time perfecting my learning methods before I look for another vacancy,in the hope that my brain can be trained to actually soak up and retain the tunes more effectively. To help I wonder if you could answer the following;
• what would you say is an acceptable rate to learn the songs? (last band initial 9songs in 3 weeks, about 20hrs then additional 3 in a week about 7hrs) • do you use crib sheets, tab or score when learning/rehearsing? • do you think all musicians should arrive at band practice having nailed their parts for songs and therfore not require notes of any form?
finally - does onyone have any tips on getting new material to 'stick'? previously I would listen to tracks at every opporunity on ipod, work out tracks by ear then write tabbed riff and structure notes for band practice. thank you in advance for any help you can give.... I have been seriously considering returning to being a bedroom player unless my current situation can be worked around.
Not at the moment, but no one can never say never, can't they?
I think I would almost give my right arm for a 5 string prima artist.

boy have you got great taste in basses, congratulations on your latest addition of the fanned fret variety - any more of these beauties in the pipeline?
