crez5150 replied to pete.young's topic in Musicians Wanted
Hi, Is there anyone who would be interested in doing a paid gig with a covers band on the afternoon of Friday 15th May, playing between 3 and 7 pm ? The gig is at Hintlesham Hall near Sudbury. Please get in touch via PM for more details. It might be handy if you could also make the odd rehearsal in the Ipswich area beforehand. Kind regards, Pete
PM'd -

Amp and cab modeling software accurately emulates Markbass amplification Markbass has now turned its attention to the software market with the launch of a dynamic recording plugin, Markbass Studio 1, suitable for either PC or Mac. The plugin is one of only a few on the market that accurately models bass amps and speaker cabinets, and is based on three Markbass amp heads and six Markbass cabinets. It incorporates six different microphone choices, plus control over compression, mic position, tweeter level, room ambience, and more. The amps featured are the all-tube Classic 300, the tube-preamp R 500, and the solid state (with tube compressor) TA 501. Cabinets modelled are the Standard 151HR (rear-ported 1x15”), Standard 152HR (rear-ported 2x15”), Standard 104HR (rear-ported 4x10”), Standard 104HF (front-ported 4x10”), Standard 106HF (front-ported 6x10”) and Classic 108 (sealed 8x10”). Users can combine and adjust any combination of heads, cabinets and microphones, and store their settings in one of 64 user presets. They can also browse through 64 factory presets, which have been designed by project engineers as well as top Markbass artists. The plugin can be applied to a bass track either during or after recording, and a standalone version, which operates on its own without recording software, is also included. The plugin gives users a wide array of sound choices for bass, providing a convenient, high-quality alternative to recording with bass amps and cabinets, and accessing some exciting, realistic sounds. The plugin is useful not only to bassists, but also producers, engineers, songwriters, and anyone who uses hard disk recording software to create music. The Mark Studio 1 plugin was designed in collaboration with Overloud Technologies and product manager Paolo Costa, a Markbass artist and one of the top session bassists in Italy. The DSP modelling was created at Studio Logic in Milan, using actual Markbass amps and cabinets in order to faithfully capture their sonic properties. The sessions were supervised by sound engineer Renato Cantele and sound designer Max Costa, both experts in computer science and sound. In order to create the most accurate and realistic emulations possible, they created the sound models by using non-linear convolution instead of standard DSP techniques, in order to more accurately clone the sound. Six of the most popular microphones were used, including dynamic, condenser and ribbon mics. These were carefully evaluated, both individually and in combinations, as were their positions relative to the speakers. Markbass Studio 1 is available immediately throughout the UK at a suggested price of £199.

The Guitar is too prominent in the mix.... great guitar sound though.... Drums well not sure what your using but I'd go back and re-do them as they sound too false to my ears... Always hard with this style of music to make them sound natural anyway..... what are you using for them?

Perhaps you should switch to Status.....

Last Wedding gig of 2008 on Saturday in Liverpool.... Great gig though the Bride was proper stressed as she had organized most of the wedding herself.... poor cow! Band went down a storm with the crowd and we also managed to give an improv version of Jingle bells with the Brides maids who were proper fit!!! Also snagged two more gigs, one with the Venue as the manager was impressed and one with a guest for a wedding next year.... Also tried out the new PA system..... was totally blown away with it - K-Array

has anyone used a Bose L1 Model 2 System With B1 Bin.
crez5150 replied to voxpop's topic in Amps and Cabs
Probably better than the Bose, at least the sub driver is large enough, though the design appears to not allow multiple subs to be clustered, which is very poor practice. As with the Bose the 2" midbasses are too small to run down to the 100Hz that they need to, and too large to run to 12kHz with adequate off-axis dispersion. The main technical shortcoming of both this and the Bose is that no 2 way system can effectively function across the full 40Hz-12kHz bandwidth required for live sound reinforcement. But in the lower price ranges most PA systems suffer from a myriad of technical shortcomings, so they still might sound pretty good comparatively speaking.
The Subs can be Clustered.... The Hi-Packs do not get any where near the 100Hz.... obviously as they are 2" drivers.... but do run from 150Hz.... giving a very convincing performance... I think that for the size of the system and the power output your extremely hard pushed to find anything that matches. -

Forget Bose L1..... it sucks for band use..... acoustic musicians can get away with it just about...... Have a look at this little beauty...... just done our first gig with it at the weekend.... 4k rig that fits into the boot area in my Audi A4 - K-Array Redline System Full band through this and we hardly had to drive it..... -
Good points..... I'm no Jaco Fan and I preferred that clip of him playing keys more than any of his bass work I've heard but I have respect for him as a player.... just not my taste. Wish I had half as much talent in my little finger....
