1.
Why did Bernard Edwards have such a difficult sense of timing? It sounds so nice on the recordings, But trying to emulate it is near impossible! All i can do is just bum note my way through it. I spend alot of time on trying to get the timing right and then i end up missing particular variations in the riffs. For example the quick octave jump at the beginning of the main line. Anyway! Enough Ranting. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Jg2mhoV4oZg Heres my attempt at Le Freak by Chic. I used my new to me yamaha BB5000 through my Marshall bi-amp and peavey bi-amp cab. The yamaha has active 18volt fender electronics, and a set of old heavy roundwounds (Note i only play with very very very light and bright roundwounds so this was very new to me!) Anyway, If anyone can give me some advice on emulating his technique and some opinion on the sound of the bass that will be lovely can i assume that Bernard used a set of old Flats on his MM ? - Rob.
He was asked once what strings he uses....... " whatever comes fitted on a Musicman" he replied!!!! It's all in the hands!

 11.
Thank you- it actually means a lot as comments on this Forum can get blown out of proportion very quickly. I said I'd try and sell it for a mate of mine for what he paid for it. I guess you can get it cheaper but it comes down to the old addage "A bird in the hand..." Anyway, it's a lovely bass and if I wasn't so inept I'd keep it myself.
Kool
 12. Look not trying to wind anyone up... didn't want to put anything on my post as normally it gets taken the wrong way..... I spoke with DV and Zings recently as I was contemplating one of these and they have said they are having stock very shortly.... so If I upset anyone then sorry but I these are available at a lesser price.... I think YOUR comments are a bit childish but hey.... who am I to judge!

 14. Another Xmas party at Knebworth House...... What a bash.... Manufacturer of wind turbines..... Fantastic dinner and cabaret which we were allocated our own table for...... They also had hired in an AV company to hold Rockstar and Guitar Hero competitions which I failed miserably at..... Even allowed the 'Company Band' to get up and play a few tunes.... one of which was 'Ghostbusters' to everyones surprise.... and very funny it was too.... Next week we have more xmas parties and a Lesbian wedding.... or as I like to call it, the bands Christmas party!!!!
 15.
Since when has there been anything wrong with hating something? its like those fellas who can fit a 2litre coke bottle up their arse - an impressive party trick but not something I'd want to do myself.
Don't knock it 'till you've tried it!!!
 16.
Personally I'm amazed at the amount of slap hate shown here. All this time I thought that I was escaping the guitarist 'contempt for other guitarists' syndrome by coming to a positive and engaging community, but I guess that it's a case of same poison, different bottle. There are opinions and there are blatantly negative and destructive statements, and both are alive and kicking at Basschat.
+100 Couldn't agree more..... what about those twats that play bass with a pick???? Let's have a go at them!!!
 17.
Damn it could do with this....currently need something with a little more oomph than my LM250. Too close to Xmas and money's too tight to mention.
I thought you got kicked off mentioning Simply Red songs!!!!
 18.
just checking im going to go through with the purchase with a fellow basschatter tonight haha I just came across the video. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qqJl_BQl2XY&...feature=related SM58's proper use
That's classic...... may have to pass that around the industry.... hehe
 19.
Nope, never had anything like that said to me. I'm lucky because all the bands I play with hold me in reverence. Are there really that many bad bass players out there?? In my rock trio the guitarist introduces me as, "possibly the greatest bass player to walk the planet." Obviously it's not true, but let him think it, anyway
I always get introduced as the Baldest man on stage......
 20. Cost isn't everything...... though taking my Sennheiser hat off a moment...... the 58 technology is over 20 years old now.... you can buy much better mic's (most brands) for a lot less...... my personal fave budget mic is the Beyer TGX 58 which you can get for about £45 (sounds like a beta 58 pretty much) ...... of course the Sennheiser is far superior
 21. hehe....... I would ask and if they say yes then ask them if they know Mustang Sally......
 22.
Every day, somewhere in the world, loads of brand new bass guitars are 'born'. Whether they eminate from luthiers or factories, there are lots and lots coming in to the world all the time. But do bass guitars go the Great Bass Gallery In The Sky at the same rate? If more are created than destroyed, will the world be big enough, or will we all need to have bass harems in order to manage the increasing masses? or what?
You can tell it's Friday....... eh....
 23. should shut this thread before we waste another umpteen pages of dross
