I think you also have to work out what the definition of 'Popular' is also...... How can you define what is popular and what is not
-
Define "authentic".
Define 'Pop' music...... isn't a term for 'Popular' music....... how do you define that?

is any music authentic???????
Most Speakon sockets on amps are comination Speakon/jack sockets. Have a closer look, might be able to put a jack into the middle. (On cabs they are not usually combinations as the intention is to seal the cab, jacks fail to do this).
Be careful with this...... it's only the Neutrik NLJ2MD-V that allows you to do this. Most manufacturers do no use this as standard as it's an expensive socket. You could end up with a jack plug stuck in a Speakon socket if you are not careful

Good Times Le Chic, cant quite believe how tricky this is!
crez5150 replied to skidder652003's topic in Theory and Technique
It's a relatively simple line but...... it's all about the feel. We play a few Chic numbers in the band and they are all the same (with exception of 'Everybody Dance' which is an absolute killer) fairly easy tunes on the face of it but Bernie's feel and laid back timing is fantastic. Sure to throw any player out on first learnings -
Ebony, Rosewood illegal timber from Madagascar

Wasn't just Gibson..... but because of who gibson are.... they have been chased after by the Authorities..... to be made an example of. There were a lot of Chinese manufacturers on that documentation too... but because they all have funny names that we do not recognise, it's not so much if an issue. -
I'm the other way..... I could never go back to a four..... tried a few months back and found it fairly restrictive. Especially for slap
Forgive me for a brief thread diversion but loads of places we've played have required the band to have PLI. Two pretty standard questions are: "What level of PLI cover do you have?" and "is all you gear PAT tested?" Is this unusual?
Most of the venue's we play functions at stipulate that you must have PLI. It's been mentioned here lots but I'm surprised any bands that are out playing function and wedding work do not have PLI.
Don't fall into the trap of camping out in the lower range. Too many people do when first moving to a 5 string and rather than making the music sound 'heavy',it can end up sounding a lot emptier, depending on the instrumentation of the music. I'd recommend familiarising yourself with the extra string by extending regular scale and arpeggio exercises over the five strings-it will allow you to play 2 octaves with minimal shifts-no shifts at all if you use extended fingerings.
This ^ I find myself playing around the middle of the neck without having to move around too much throughout your average gig

Picture would be great please
-
Plus things change in Venues so quickly these days it would be difficult to always have an up to date view.
-
You are right.... weddings can go one of two ways..... you won't know till you're there. If you're not keen on becoming a function band then stick to the pubs and you'll get regular bookings. I get the feeling that you want to do the pub gig anyway. If it was me, I'd take the payer.... but then I don't really play pubs as a rule.
-
You can get most brands re-badged if you know which far eastern factory to look into and can justify the quantity......
-
Are you bidding to pretend you can play bass?

I AM ONLY SELLING MY GUITARS AS I HAD MAJOR ABDOMINAL SURGERY IN BATH on 17TH JANUARY AND CAN NO LONGER PLAY / STAND FOR PROLONGED PERIODS FOLLOWING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IN FINLAND PRE XMAS. Very informative...... -
words cannot express how sick I am of seeing this!
crez5150 replied to 1970's topic in Amps and Cabs
Indeed....... I hate it too....... it goes on for bloody pages -
This is why I always do a visit to the venue before the gig so there are no surprises.
-
Have to say I've had the complete opposite with HK..... found them truly lifeless and uninspiring. Had the Elias and hire a Projector system.... not worth the money IMO. We have a few different PA systems including JBL SRX, DAS, K-Array (very nice) and a few Fohhn boxes too. We have the new HH Electronic products which are fabulous ( I would say that....) but I'd have to say that the DAS Audio is probably my favourite. Punchy as hell and extremely linear
or clapping..and I am not talking about raptuous applause, single hand claps set some off, IME.
Indeed..... there's been a few venues where we've turned up and the background conversation noise has almost tripped the system. One place we set up at.... the system tripped when I turned my bass amp on... never good.

We are using a mix at present. Most of the samples we use now are being triggered in realtime by the keys player. Though now things are moving on and we have incorporated Ableton Live and also Reason. Rather than being confined to a click we are triggering bigger production numbers as scenes which seems to work quite well. Also if something f***s up, the scenes loop until the next one is triggered. Also we are sending midiclock info tot he drummers electric kit brain for metronome info. Some of the numbers we are performing are getting bigger in terms of production because of this technology but I don't think we are losing any feel to the songs at all.

I have a clause in our contract that states we are not responsible for disruption due to sound limiters. The worst one we have come across is at Knebworth House. We play an annual bash there and we always take a feed from elsewhere. You just have to either play quietly within the limits or try to bypass them somehow.
-
Indeed...... the 500 is more than enough..... anything more and you should be relying on FOH system anyway

And then there was this one - http://www.level42.com/youtube/tv-radio-shows/?tubepress_page=2
