1.
Were you in one too?
Nah.... all that clicking from the washboard put me off
 2.
Yeah and we played in the street until dark and ate worms and smoked cigarettes and we cut ourselves and mixed our blood to become bloodbrothers and had loadsa fun and we're still alive and gigging and smoking cigarettes and still having fun and being paid for playing live music.
Skiffle band I guess......
 3.
Never used a looper or played in a band that has used one I'm afraid, so I can't really comment, but are they really necessary or are they just complicating things in a live situation? I don't know. And, yup I'm an old git who started in the 60s, I play guitar and a lot of other things too but I just can't abide the synthetic, machined, highly digitized and produced stuff that's being pumped out today - just doesn't sound natural, is all.
Jumpers for Goalposts..........

 5.
Beatles, I'm still trying to play the bass line to I saw her standing there and failing to get anywhere near the right speed, and he sings too! bastard
S'funny.... I had to do this one yesterday..... fine on the verse but I couldn't play the original line on the Chorus and sing so had to simplify if slightly.
 6.
True. However,I will make an exception for John Entwistle...mainly because of that 'Bassist of the Millenium' thing that keeps getting touted. I don't even think he's the best bass player to play with The Who
you and me both....... and 'Hooky'

 12.
This is the sample that is used on White Lines
Well not sure if it is the actual sample but I know there were legal wrangling's over the use of the track.... so perhaps GF just ripped it off
 13.
??? What/who is this? Did GF just sample that or rip it off? Interesting.
This is the sample that is used on White Lines
 14.
Grandmaster Flash n the Furious Five's 'White Lines'. Beautiful in its simplicity.
What you are actually listening to is this..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IL45YOtbuy0
 15.
Have'nt read all of this thread, but the 80s bass lines I that come to mind are on paul Young tracks - Pino ? and the Frankie Goes Hollywood one - Norman ? Was a great era for strong basslines, but not many of em to my taste really. I didnt play at all in the 80s, so took my eye off the ball a bit. Was Joe Jacksons Look Sharp album 80s ? theres some really great Bass on that which never gets mentioned on threads like this for some reason..
I love Joe Jackson...... I must play Look Sharpe every single week, it's one of those albums that I never ever tire of. There's also a fantastic live version of 'You can't get what you want' on the Stepping Out/Greatest hits album that features a really nice Bass line/slap solo.
 16.
Not all of it
True..... but anything after 79 wasn't the same ;o)
 17.
Maybe... But IMO his basslines were the only good thing about Paul Young and even he couldn't save Go West from being crap.
I disagree... Go west had some fantastic tunes, Great musicians and Great production.
 18.
Absoluteley! McCartney had already made his mark as a bass player long before Wings. While Wings had some great songs, they really didn't 'up' PM's reputation as a bass player any further.
Absolutely.... though I think Wings definitely bought him forward as a songwriter
 19.
Pretty much the past 5 posts have all been Pino bass parts. I love it
He really tapped into something didn't he..... very kool!

 23.
Duran Duran - Rio Patricia Rushen - Forget Me Nots Everything ever by Chic.... Sister Sledge - Thinking of You Level 42 - Love Games The list goes on...
Chic is late 70's.....
 24. I reckon this is the flagship model..... expensive.... not sure many people will buy it.... but it gets the idea of the technology out there. Then they will start to release cheaper versions and that's when the cash registers start to ring.
 25. Too many to mention in the 80's...... too many great bass lines..... This is a great one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHlWTYo3aRo&feature=related
