Son of POG

Hello all. First post, but I've been a reader of the forum for some time. I own an Indonesian Peavy Cirrus BXP 5 string (pictured). I love the guitar, great action and finish and great action but I'm not so keen on the sound from the p'ups and preamp. it's just way too loud! Twice the volume of my other 18v active bass. Way too loud and tends to distort easily. So, before I considered selling it, I wondered if you guys would recommend a replacement p'up and preamp setup? I love the bass, great to play but it's just the Indonesian circuitry that's not to my taste. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
