  1. Is it brethren and slitheren?
  2. It's a logistics thing for me, mate. Travel to London, staying over, missing gigs here, plus the tickets. Be a bit rich I reckon. Plus I priced up the London drum show and I'm still having blackouts! The Manc one was on a Sunday, all done and dusted. I'm up for a bass bash, though. I want to meet all the BC'rs that I can.
  3. It was a killer day out. Yolanda playing a 64 jazz bass, awesome. And Janek telling people on the stalls upstairs to shut up as he was performing!!
  4. Cheers Silvia, I'll keep an eye open. What I was initially asking was about the one that I attended in manc. Seems it was a smaller affair than the big London show, but a bigger deal than the bass bash format
  5. So, I came to bass after some 20 years on drums. And yes, I groove like a mofo! Anyone else play another instrument before our beloved 4 strings?
  6. Hey did anyone mention Kip Winger? Or the guy from Mr mister?
  7. The one I went to in Manchester was like a mini London bass show. Reasonable tix, top line players and all kind of merchants and manufacturers involved. More regional as London is a fair trek from me.
  8. The adverts can be really dangerous..... I was once driving to Southampton from Blackpool, and to keep myself awake I tried remembering all the basses I've had in the last 18 years. Embarrassingly it's almost 50....50 basses that I've bought and sold because I've believed that the grass is greener. All those wonderful instruments I wish I had back. All down to the advertising brainwash
  9. Sorry bud I've ordered the Behringer cheap to experiment
  10. I have to say that DJ Sammy ruined my life with her "boys of summer" cover. Awful
  11. Crikey! I've not bought a mag for ages.... Had a purge a while back, as they were all over the house.
  12. I've been watching a bit of Jack Bruce recently. I liked his vocal range, but dare I say, I've no time for experimental noise excursions. Lovely fretless sound though......
  13. My cousins 3 piece use in ears, all hardwired, and that seems to be a good viable option. I haven't tried it myself, granted but personally when it gets too noisy on stage, I have almost a "sensory deprivation" kind of feeling. Hard to describe, but the upshot is that I over concentrate and I'm more inclined to make mistakes. My current band uses bose column speakers as a pa, which belong to the singer, who also does the mix. This means that it's hit or miss whether I hear myself (he mixes himself 75% above the band) and as the stacks are on stage, it's incredibly loud. My idea for singing and in ears is for a future idea. Although the wharfedale is a neat little unit
  14. That's a good shout. There are one or two vocal tutors in my area. Another important aspect that I forgot to mention is monitoring. I'm looking into in ear jobbies at the minute
  15. Cheers pal. I meant something more locally based, and less "arena gig" priced tickets. I'm over in Blackpool, so not only a bit remote, but as "tight as a camels a%@£ in a sandstorm! 😆
  16. I recall when Loot was de rigeur of buying and selling. You may have a 30 mile drive but you always dealt in cash
  17. Do bass Days still happen? The last one I went to was around 10 years ago in Manchester, and featured Janek Gwizdala, and Wojtek Pilichowski among others. It was a brilliant day, with stalls and a bar etc.
  18. I was once selling a zildjian ride cymbal on a drum forum, when an oddly named chap (Mr Cole Longway) contacted me, and in pidgin English described his preferred method of payment. Firstly, he would deposit £20,000 into my bank, and then, within five days, his "representative" would call to collect the cymbal, and his change. I had the cymbal on for £85
  19. Cheers, guys. I'm firmly of the Sting/Lynott era. Although I absolutely love Rush, I'm more of a solid groover on bass (being a former drummer). Maybe that's where my love of the p bass comes from! I hear what you say about not overstretching vocally. I'm currently doing high harmonies etc and the Sting part on "money for nothing". My biggest issue is confidence. I think you really have to know yourself and be comfortable with it. I do like a challenge, though!
  20. I liked Michael Anthony hanging a bra from his headstock!! 😆
  21. Anyone in this field? Any favourite artists? I'm considering stepping up to bat, and I'm looking for some ideas, please. I've done backing vocals for years, and I sing tenor in my church choir. Plus I can drum and sing, so the independence isn't an issue (much!)

  23. It's something that you see quite often. I'm inclined to agree with Dood. I just can't help but think there's a sinister motive.
