Thanks to everyone for their comments - both here and via PM - and for keeping this on the first page of the for sale board. Gareth - you are of course correct, this does warrant more than five words and a number if I want to sell it. maybe there is some sub-conscious thing going on where part of me doesn't want to sell this. ED Straker - you are correct, it is birdseye maple. So here goes...this was made in 1989 and I bought it 1995. It's the standard Wal construction and active electronics - mahogany body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, twin pickups. Rotary controls are volume, pickup pan, bass and treble. The volume control can be "pulled up" to activate pick attack, where a narrow band of frequencies are boosted. The bass and treble rotaries can also be pulled to boost a range of the frequencies based on the current bass or treble positions. This one has a nice birdseye maple top and the gold coloured hardware. It's in good condition for a twenty year old bass but there are some marks. There is a black dot on the top horn where the maple was either flawed or has been slightly indented; there are some scratches to the top side of the horn - i.e. in the mahogany rather than the maple. The back has several light scratches to the lacquer. I can't photograph these - you can only see them when you hold the bass up at a certain angle to the light. At one time I used this bass for all rehearsals, gigs and recording. Over the last ten years I've been lucky to own several nice basses. A Fender Custom Shop Precision and a double bass get most use and the Wal has been in it's case for most of the last five years or so. I'm selling as I would like to buy an Eminence upright. Thanks again for all of your comments. The pictures below show the electronics, back plate and some the scratches.

Hi Lee, Thanks for buying the Godin from me. I'm glad you like it. Thanks Steve

This is a Wal fretless neck. It's labelled as a custom, but it is the Pro paddle style headstock. I've used this on a Custom MK1. The tuners are Ovation branded Schallers - they are exactly the same as those used by Wal, but labelled Ovation.
WHAT?!! Yes, blinding! By the way, the first vintage look model is going out in this batch - a sideways metal-cornered and fabric-grilled Compact to sit underneath a Fender Bassman. Alex
I think that one is mine. Steve -
the 'museum' factor cannot really be escaped.
I was just about to say that Vintage and Rare is great. It's like a museum where they let you play the exhibits at no charge, and without you feeling that you are in the way. Or perhaps it's like an antique shop...a new digital camera will cost less than an antique Leica, it'll be more convenient and take better pictures; some people will still want an antique Leica. And when I try and sell my old camera to the antique shop, they'll offer me a lot less than they will sell it for. I know that and it's OK by me. Steve
Hi Secret It is starting to look like a common problem - isn't it. Did yours repair up OK? - no rattles or vibrations after?
Mine worked fine after the repair. I had it done at Pacific Lighting in Birmingham. Steve

I had exactly the same problem. The repair shop couldn't weld it as they needed special equipment, so they closed the gap by using an L-shaped bracket

This is an electric double bass that combines traditional materials for the bridge, neck and tuners with a carbon fibre body. It has a built in pickup, sounds and plays great. Looking for £1,200. I'm in Worcester. Thanks Steve http://www.bridgeinstruments.co.uk/elec_bass.html Moulded carbon fibre composite body Maple neck and headstock Ebony fingerboard and nut Piezo bridge pickup Volume / tone controls 42 inch scale length This is really hard to photo as the surface is very shiny.

I'd go for a Mahogany body with Sycamore facings, a Maple neck with an Ebony fingerboard, two-a-side tuners, two pickups, bass and treble controls with pull-to-boost, master volume and a volume-pan.

Was this in Denmark Street? If it's the one I am thinking of, it's been there for at least six years at that price. Prices of Shergolds do vary, but I'd say £200 to £400 for an 8.

Clarky is right. I had one for a while. Very precision-like.
I agree with you. I played a Fender Pino Palladino Relic Precision at GAK in Brighton. It would not have been impossible for the staff to have relieved me of in excess of 2000 quid if it hadn't been a relic. Well, if I'd actually had £2000 as well. Mind you, would rejecting a relic that felt perfect and sounded perfect for you also be a mistake?
I always thought relic basses were really dumb. "Why oh why" I would think. Played a Pino Relic Precision in New York City and it followed me home. My favourite bass of all time. Steve
