  1. Player Series basses are £450 new from Richtone every December and the last one I bought was phenomenal.
  2. This isnt true. The Mexican Roadworn a and reissues from 2010 onwards have been exceptional instruments.
  3. Still here, and likely to be the perfect addition to your lockdown life
  4. Ahh I’ve had all those. He works in digital tech, so the YouTube stuff is perfect.
  5. It’s been a hard few months for us all. One friend committed suicide and another tried. Just keeping an eye out for a mate. And I did try to get him interested in bass, but he wasn’t having any of it!
  6. Hi all, a good friend of mine had been suffering with a bit of depression and so to cheer him up I’ve bought him a guitar and all the kit. Normally, I’d visit and give him lessons, but obviously that’s not possible. Can anyone recommend any simple and effective YouTube channels or free resources I could recommend to him? If he can play an Oasis song or a Beatles track it would mean the world to him.
  7. Hi Dan, I spoke with Dave a few times and he seemed a very friendly and warm chap. I ended up with a flight case of his with a unique inscription on it. I’m sorry to hear of your loss, but he left a wonderful legacy. If you ever have the chance to photograph the instruments, I’m sure people here would enjoy seeing them. I actually played the 62 jazz when it was in Bath, and it was lovely.
  8. All sounds good. A set of flats seems to be the way forward, so I’ve added that to my list too!
  9. The reality is tang in a system where margins are tight, problems happen. My form belief is that the overwhelming majority of people on this work are good people and would never want a parcel to go missing or a child to be disappointed. Im glad your son got a bass, and commend the CEO for doing the right thing. For 99.9% of us, online transactions work ok.
  10. I’m not sure what you mean? A bass should sound likes bass. A stingray, a stingray etc. A shortscale shouldn’t sound different, but play different. (My view)
  11. My wife wanted to know what to buy me for Christmas, and after some discussion, my kids decided they wanted to buy me a bass. We found the Harley Benton shortscale for £74, so they bought it. I’m very excited about it and the kids are over the moon to buy dad a present he’ll love and use. Any advice on what strings I should get? Anything I need to know or check for when it arrives?
  12. No, I’ve been a few times but on some of those occasions it was with friends checking out the other stringed instruments there. I don’t have funds to invest in basses of that cost any more, sadly.
  13. Sounds like you’ve found some lovely gear.
  14. I’ve rarely seen a bargain there, but the instruments do seem reasonably priced. I do remember a man dressed as a cowboy winning a guitar (some Gibson Ltd Edition) fist pumping in the middle of the auction room. That was great to see, as it turns out he’d been searching for this particular guitar for over 20 years!
  15. I’ve been to this auction a few times. Don’t forget there’s a 24% premium on top you’ll need to pay. There are few bargains to be had there, but it is quite a lot of fun!
  16. This happened to me too. They sent a bass destined for Germany to Spain. Never seen again... 1995 Stingray. So sad.
  17. Given both occasion the Bass has hit £1200 I expect shill bidding to be at play here.
  18. It seems everyone has missed that this is a promo video for the speaker. I’m pretty sure the guy realises it’s musical masturbation with limited practical application or value. The guy is just demonstrating how the speaker works, and I personally prefer to watch a bit of gear demoed with some jazz noodling any day than endless, pointless, tuneless and soulless slap bass.
  19. The point about this exercise is its technical complexity and the fact that you need to internalise the solo and modulate it yourself (rather than read the dots) as the dots don’t exist in all 12 keys. So, you might have the dots for a solo in Bb, but not for B etc. The only way to shift up the key is to memorise the solo, internalising the licks and establishing some serious Bebop vocab.
  20. Either his bass has shrunk or he’s a giant. Good tune this.
  21. Bought for lockdown but never used. Never been unpacked, touched or played... £140 including delivery. I’ll be locking down tomorrow, so probably last chance to grab this for a while...
  22. Behringer U-Phoria UMC22 - bought for lockdown but never used. Never even been unpacked so is 100% mint. £32 including delivery.
