  1. It won’t damage the bass, no. If you’ve got a plywood bass then it’ll be fine. If you have a fully carved one, might be worth taking to a luthier. The action shouldn’t buzz. The problem is that the low tension strings reverberate a lot. In the end, when you’re playing acoustically or through an amp the audience won’t hear it. If you’re confident working with wood then give it a crack. Reshaping the top of a bridge can be a challenge so make sure you know what you’re doing before you start working.
  2. Hi all, I was lucky enough to score this flip top head and can and (as you'd expect) it's amazing. Simply incredible sound, looks and construction. This is an absolute deal for someone, and I'm passing it on for the same price I paid. Collection only from Bristol and £550 gets it. (I can't drive out and meet you anywhere as I don't have a car and it's too heavy for me to waste my time trying to find a courier). This is a heavyweight amp. It's not a class D, 2kg monster (like the TE Elf). It's easier for me to paste the details below. Nothing has changed since the advert was posted. If it doesn't sell for the asking price, I will cry myself to sleep safe in the knowlegde that I have the greatest practice amp that has ever been created. My wife even likes the tolex pattern, so maybe I'll see if I can sneak it into the living room...
  3. I really need the space. Price now includes delivery. If you collect, can do for £225.
  4. Doing the job. I can see what people say about it colouring the sound. It’s a lovely vintage sounding rig and the EBS is ultra powerful for something so small.
  5. Paired the 10s with an EBS Reidmar 750 and absolutely blew me away. perfect sound from a tiny package. Got bless modern engineering and manufacturing. First gig tomorrow. Will update.
  6. It is essentially a magnetic pickup that you can blend with a piezo, yes. I play loud and with effects sometimes and a piezo just doesn’t work. If I was playing smoky jazz clubs or had some sound engineer to do everything for me, then I’m not sure it would be the best solution (although the guy from Mumford & Sons used to use one of these and he was playing mega stages!). It’s 100% plug and play which is what I need for my gigs. Better players at bigger venues will need something else, naturally.
  7. 100% agree. The 1975 reissue with the block inlays is an incredible bass as I imagine this one is.
  8. Yep, 100% agree. I got one of these made and it’s excellent. http://www.zadow-electronics.de/pickup_e.htm Stick it into a good preamp and sounds ace.
  9. I had this. Sound people kept complaining the bass was too low with a piezo and then when I turned it up the risk of feedback was too high. I now have both a magnetic and a peizo on the bass and while you can mix them, I can't be bothered. Let us know how the gig goes!
  10. Yeah, I meant more that kind of heavy muted flatwound sound. Did you see the gig at the Barbican?
  11. True. It’s a wonderful album and he did the 2007 Barbican concert perfectly.
  12. Guy worked with Taylor Swift that’s why.
  13. Err, the order got cancelled as I’m going to sell the bass.
  14. There’s some controversy about what he did and didn’t play on this album, but the tone he got on Melody Nelson album (and live) is the greatest bass sound I’ve ever heard.
  15. OK. We have a solution now. I can stick the Midget cabinet in a cupboard so it's not in the way. This, strangely enough, solves all my problems as I can now test the 1x10s and Midget at the next gig. Phew.
  16. I agree with this. Some of the prices for stuff is just mad. People are trying ahop prices for private sales then getting upset when nobody is interested… The same issues is affecting the car market, too. Private sale values are nuts for 18 year old cars.
  17. That’s a lot of gear! As well as the Barefaced cabs I’ve got an Ampeg valve amp. I could sell that and keep them all (but I don’t want to, obviously).
  18. Incredible bass and Bucharest is a wonderful city
  19. I’d seen this and Alex actually told me the 2 x 10s would suit me best. Coupled with the real world experiences of people here suggest that’s the best option in terms of size, weight and convenience. Thanks all.
  20. This was my hope. The 10s are also easier to carry and store
  21. Good question. I currently don’t have a car so it’s not an option. My practice space (loft) is becoming our master bedroom hence the need to downsize:
