  1. I think some people have seen the increase in value and assume prices will continue to increase. From the outside it looks like there’s not where left for them to go but down. Mind you, I said that when people were paying £2,000 for 70s Fenders and I obviously know nothing.
  2. This is a good tongue in cheek thread. And I like it. If there’s a logic it’s that you’re playing on instinct rathe mr than being conscious of the note choices. I spoke with an incredible player who was cranking out BeBop standards at 300bpm and he admitted that “at that speed there’s very little music!”. You’ll surely need to know your stuff before you start soloing. And serious jazzers are usually (not not always) happy and supportive and would welcome the chance to offer some advice on your playing rather than call you out for being a fraud.
  3. Televised sport of any kind is a killer. Watching a crowd flit between some inconsequential match on the telly and the gig is soul destroying.
  4. I’m really sorry, I don’t know! I got them fitted at a shop and they worked fine. I’ve double checked them and that’s the length.
  5. Nobody wanted them in the 90s. I’m not entirely sure why they’re so popular now to be honest after having owned a few.
  6. Hi, it’s still available, sadly no case. I could send it, fire me across a Pm
  7. I think there are some great ideas here. Could It be worth chatting with some local studios or acoustic firms who may be able to help you? I’m not suggesting s begging letter, but companies may want to get involved to help.
  8. This is car boot sale crap. The vintage obsession is getting out of hand, especially when you consider you could buy a mega Ashdoen or Ampeg rig for the same price.
  9. String lengths are (in centimetres): G - 149.5 D - 158 A - 154 E - 163
  10. I'm in a similar position to your friend. I'm in two bands and I do one rehearsal every week with one, and the other is every couple of weeks. Bands are odd things. It can all get a bit emotional, however what worked for me was telling the guys that I was finding it difficult to manage everything and I needed a breather. People are usually pretty reasonable (if you give them the chance to be). It can get a bit fraught though. This week I'm doing a practive at 7:30 - 1- and then a gig at 10:45, so it's not ideal!
  11. I reckon this thread is at risk of going the way that any thread about jazz does... Music is entirely subjective and where one may hear unstructured noodling, another may infer a beautiful and melodic piece that challenges conventions with every chord change. (I'm the latter). Jazz is no better or worse than any other genre, it's just different. Back to the thread, this has inspired me to pop along to my local jazz jam this month. I'll let you know how I get on (badly, I imagine).
  12. If this is all about losing money then I could have bought Bitcoin pretty early. Biggest annoyance was not buying a pre EB stingray for £500 and a refinished 64 jazz (£2000) and One of Steve Harris’s Jazz basses he have a tech at the end of a tour (£750). Every other guitar I’ve wanted I’ve bought.
  13. This is terribly sad. I've never seen what this guy does, but the briefest glimpse makes my heart sink. I'm particularly struck by the headstock 'decal' that's done with a bloody Bic biro. It's for the unsuspecting parents and relatives or the new guitarist who is conned by this rubbish. I once got scammed on a vintage Fender when I was first starting out and I'm still a little bitter about it (I didn't lose money, some strong words sorted it out).
  14. This is a great bass driver / DI box. I got this recently and have used it a few times for practice and as a backup for a couple of gigs. However, I prefer to use my Fishman as I’m mostly doing DB stuff now. These are unbelievable value for money... i cant attach photos (will do what I can).
  15. Amen to that! Hope it all works out for you. It’s so exciting to unwrap it and start playing. Took me weeks to get over the initial delight and into the set up and tweaking.
  16. If you’re getting a bass built for you it’s understandable that others may not find the same sizes and specs to their liking. I’ve got a couple of custom instruments and they were always bought with the belief I’d keep them forever. While one is a well known DB builder (and an appreciating asset) the other probably lost 50% of its value as soon as I’d plucked a string.
  17. These are a really decent set of Spiro Weichs. These were fitted to an SLB 100 and used for a period of about 15 - 20 hours before I sold the bass (to someone here on BC if I remember rightly...) The shop that fitted them snipped them, so they’re probably more suited to an EUB. I can measure each string if you want / need me too. Just let me know. They sound great, obviously. I think £80 including delivery sounds fair. Cant seem to upload a picture as it’s too large. Will sort that!
