  1. I agreed with this in principle until I rewound the clock to this week in 1967... https://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singles-chart/19670809/7501/ I guess it reflects the hold of the 60s on our culture, but there are some timeless songs in there, whether you love pop, soul, psychedelia or even a bit of rock.
  2. The constant acquisition of gear has an inverse relationship with actual playing and enjoyment. By that I mean the more time I spend buying hear the less time I spend playing. Which is bloody stupid. I’ve got the preposterous situation where I have two basses, two double basses and an EUB and three guitars. This is a drastic reduction in the amount of gear I used to have. Crazy when you write it down. I’m lucky enough to have a big house in a cheap area where I can store it all. And a wife who was warned that she would live in what might resemble a music shop for the rest of her life.
  3. What’s important is the set up. Any bass (whether new from Gear4music or second hand) needs a good set of strings and a setup. My first bass was purchased from a professional for £450. I spent about the same on a new set of strings and a set up and it’s now incredible sounding and playing. I’ve now upgrades to a Bryant which is a whole world apart but it still needed a £400 set up.
  4. This 100%. It’s about economy of movement in most cases, rather than extension of range. That’s not to say people don’t venture to the lower reaches, of course they do, it’s just it reduces the need for position shifts.
  5. I see now! I only read the top bit. This is very, very nice.
  6. Any offers? This has the potential to bring down my roof (and end my marriage).
  7. Bump. The ones still here are: Easy Standard - Volume 1 Sitting in with the Big Band - Volume II Duke Ellington Classics Approaching the Standards Portrait of Jaco Progressive Jazz Bass Happy to do a deal if you want them all...
  8. Bump for the weekend. If you found your rig heavy, weak and underpowered this is the solution!
  9. So, you want to play jazz but don’t know where to start? This is where!im clearing out some books I’ve had, used and enjoyed. All are in great condition (although have been used), and include the CDs and any other goodies. They’re all £8 each. Postage will be at cost, depending on how many you want. And a one, two, one, two, there, four...
  10. I’m not sure where these are from, but they fit a Mexican jazz neck and I believe are Mexican vintage tuners. They’re not reverse (Kluson) tuners. £30 delivered sound fair?
  11. I’m interested to know if anyone here has played an MK EUB? Ive had pretty much all the EUBs put there (SLB, Éminence, NS etc.) and none feels enough like a DB. I’ve some great things from a few people about MK basses. i just wanted to hear if anyone had played one or owns one...
  12. Cabinet sold. Now just this beauty of a head for sale!
  13. I believed I had sold this not once, twice, three times, but actually four times! My fault. It's still for sale, packaged up and ready to go to its new home... Price includes delivery.
  14. I should also say that I can now post this, I have the box and the bubble wrap...
  15. I was going to email, but easier to post here. I used this cymbal stand: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CHLTQSW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It was for sale at about £50 when I bought one, but it seems to have gone up again now. You can see from my final image how the clamp works perfectly. To avoid any damage I removed the spring from inside this top clasp, and used something cymbal washers to damp it. You'll need to get some thin ones, or do as I did and cut down the ones that came packaged. You can slot it inside the recess quite nicely I found. This stage isn't entirely necessary, but it ensures that the tension is balanced from both sides and the Wav is held horizontally. It also ensure that the clamp isn't metal-on-metal which could (I guess) damage it. The new stand is much sturdier. The only issue is that the stand doesn't really fit in the padded case as well as the thin one that came with it originally. As a disclaimer, I can only say that this works with this specific stand. I have no idea whether it will work for others (although I know the cheap Stagg ones definitely will). I should also point out that I'm pretty useless at these sorts of things, but I managed it in about 10 minutes with a glass of wine in hand and the cat looking on.
