  1. Here is my sunburst Chinese made Modern Player jazz body. It comes complete with the original humbucking jazz pickups. It's got an amazing high-mass bridge and swapped out knobs. It's in wonderful condition, take a look at the pictures. Simply stick on a neck and you're good! Price is now £155 including delivery.
  2. That's my daughters little hand in the background...
  3. Aguilar TH500 in near mint condition. This comes with carry case and is literally unmarked. I hesitate to call it mint, but it's about as good as you're going to get without buying a sealed unit. Here's to one of the most amazing sounding modern heads out there. £450 including delivery.
  4. Fair enough, I’m not an industry insider so can’t judge on composition etc. I think people encouraging Gibson to make better guitars are totally right, but good or bad has no relevance to IP.
  5. I don’t know what this video means for the second hand market but I don’t think it’s weird at all. It’s a well made video with a clear message. Good for Gibson I say.
  6. Really interesting perspective, and I agree. I should say I'm only 38 so don't remember the 70s, but I've been a record collector and soul, jazz and funk fan for 20 years. I've got a lot of friends who are record collectors too, so I've been listening to a lot of rare stuff from around the world for years and always seek out new music where I can. Ultimately, the power of music is to move us - as you said in a previous post. While Vulf leaves me cold, I remember the visceral thrill of hearing my first Meters track and how it changed my feelings about music. If Vulf and Joe are moving people in the same way, then all power to them. And if they moved me like that I'd damn well wear a T-shirt!
  7. Didn’t sound like no Bach to me. I must admit I only listened to the first bit then switched off. I just never find soloing in the bass register particularly interesting or rewarding to listen to. Technically these guys are undoubtedly incredible... I was just being an idiot. It happens! The bass here looks amazing and the artistry in no doubt. I know a lot of the modern R&B, hip-hop guys use Ken Smiths and they sound great. If I had the money (any money) I’d love one.
  8. There are no words for this. I genuinely don’t know whether it’s serious or a joke. https://www.gumtree.com/p/musicians-available/amazing-live-music-from-uk-s-no.1-bambi-redux-tribute-band-for-your-wedding-funeral-event/1343207275
  9. It’s music, it speaks to us all in different ways. There are no right answers, it’s just when I hear the Vulf stuff I feel I’ve heard it all before, done better and more authentically. But my opinion is entirely worthless and meaningless. If you love the music it’s all good. At least he’s not soloing over another chorus of Autumn Leaves 🙂
  10. No worries. I saw Knower and didn't really like it, but I can see what Louis is trying to do. As for influences, to me it's very Steely-Dan / Brecker Brothers top-down, white trouser funk. There's a strong Crusaders vibe too, and Shuggie Otis too. His pentatonic stuff is inspired by The Meters, whose entire career is a lesson in funk. When I get started I could be here all day going through this stuff.
  11. You reckon? I'd say funk is as creatively dead as jazz. Doesn't stop me enjoying loads of new funk and old funk, but bands like Vulfpeck aren't exactly making much of a contemporary artistic statement, in fact, the main message seems to be "things were better in the 70s",
  12. That’s not music. It’s showing off in time...
  13. Agreed. It’s technically great, but like much modern jazz, it’s pretty emotionless and just seems like a pastiche of a ‘better’ age. Not sure if you’ve ever listened to library music (the sort of incidental stuff licensed by filmmakers etc), it sounds very much like that to me. I do actually quite like some of Vulf guitarist Theo Katzman’s solo stuff.
  14. Nicely put. I’m not too-cool-for-school and can really appreciate the technical side of it, just emotionally doesn’t hit me. If he’s inspiring people to play (and isn’t Flea) then good for him, and for all bass players.
  15. T shirt is a nice touch, can’t see it does any harm. I still wear a 15 year old Star Trek t shirt - that’s genuinely sad. What I don’t get is the Joe Dart love. Seems like a pretty simple and obvious pastiche of 70/ funk stuff to me. Technically it’s ok, but it’s emotionally dead (to me, obviously not everyone!)
  16. It was his guitarist John Squire. Not sure how he did it, mind you.
  17. Quirky one this... received in a trade but no use for me. It’s in good condition with the soft case. The felt on the board has lifted in places. This can be stuck down (I’ll get some super-glue!) but it might be worth replacing with Velcro strips. Pics below...
  18. Fair enough. When I originally read your comment it came across as spiteful and pointless. The guy makes no pretence in the video to be a rock god and thank goodness he’s not trying to play yet another slap bass solo like Flea or sub-Jaco noodle. Seems the channel is for a guitar shop. This fella seems to have been given the task of showing off a metal bass and is doing a passable job. Just seems the forum is getting more and more clogged up with finger pointing and negativity. Perhaps I’ve just for a thin skin these days, but he’s playing bass so well done to him!
  19. It’s a short clip of some kid playing, perhaps I missed something, but I can’t for the life of me see where this sort of vitriol comes from or what it achieves?
  20. Quite a rare book this one and considered by some (online reviewers mostly) to be the definitive take on bass harmonics. Not really my thing, so how about £15 plus postage?
  21. Amazing little practice pod this. Its primarily for guitar but also has a number of bass modes. I happily used this until I got my Markbass amp which offers the same thing for home practice. comes boxes with everything. Can chuck on a mains adapter for a further £5. £55
  22. Here is a complete set of Spirocores Mediums. The G and D string were fitted to a bass but only strung to tension for a few minutes before being taken off. The E string has never been used but the seal is off the packet and the A string is still sealed. It’s a long story why this happened but these strings are now surplus to requirements. The D string has had the silk wear away (as pictured). Because of this I’ve listed the whole set for £110 which is about £50 off retail.
  23. Hoped the forum might be better than this sort of shite. Hey ho.
