  1. Sad business in a way. But I guess it’s the modern world.
  2. I’m not sure how I feel about that. I wanted to buy a well priced Xotic bass here that ended up a lot higher priced on BassBros. A lot of the deals here are because people have invested in and feel part of a community. I guess it’s morally no different from individuals who engage in guitar flipping. Not a business I’d want to get into…
  3. £1800 give or take? That’s what I reckoned too.
  4. I didn’t know that Will buys from the classifieds here but it makes sense.
  5. In the end, enjoying it is pretty much 100%. The more you play the closer you’ll get to the sound you want. My view is in the end you’ll probably get a double bass (I did) and the joy of playing that it amazing. In fact, I don’t play electric bass at home ever. It’s 100% DB.
  6. This is precisely how I’d describe Stereophonics. How those lads made a career out of what they do I’ll never know (although the lead singer is a a handsome chap so I’m sure that’s part of it!)
  7. I had one and it was a bit of a wacky bass. They refined the design and everything with the MK1 and subsequent basses. These just felt really odd to me. Was heavy, weird collection of parts, horrid knobs.
  8. The simplicity of the music is appealing. I was having coffee with a friend who started to play guitar to Oasis records. He still does and it brings him a lot of joy. Hate war, famine and violence, but be apathetic about Oasis.
  9. If you’re playing in a covered band in a pub you should respect what Oasis did for live music. They acted as a gateway for many people of my age (40s) to get into guitar based music. From there I’ve moved on to more esoteric stuff, but Oasis was the start…
  10. Relax. The systems work in batches and it’ll show up soon enough. I wasted time and energy on this and all was well in the end.
  11. Chalk it up to experience. A month or so ago we did a gig at a pub which was ostensibly part of a larger festival programme. We were paid by the venue but it turns out that none of the bands who played the festival were paid a penny. Would have been ok but our singer told them all we’d been paid. This caused quite a lot of strife!
  12. Didn’t think these were particularly desirable to be fair.
  13. A few friends of mine are going and I’ll go along as well. Be an expensive trip down memory lane but it’s all harmless, isn’t it? I don’t understand the anger aimed at them to be honest. It’s all an act at the end of the day. Rock and roll, etc.
  14. The paradox of relicing is the attempt to make authentic wear - which is by its very nature random and unpredictable - into something that can be replicated. One of the most prominent marks on my 66 Fender is from where I placed a wine glass on it and something reacted with the paint to cause a mark. I also used Pledge on the finish which probably wasn’t a good idea. Scraping that off quickly caused a bit of wear too! Given I’ve played it a few times in the last 10 years I guess it doesn’t matter, but the point remains.
  15. Slow and steady! It’s worth getting a lesson if you can, simply as someone experienced can diagnose and fix any poor technique. Failing that, Discover Double Bass is a wonderful resource. Looks like a great bass. Personally I try to play every day for at least 15 minutes. On some days I’ll do a few hours and gigs can last anything from 1-3 hours so you need the stamina!
  16. The problem you might have here is a private seller trying to get back the same price they paid at BassBros. I appreciate people always do this. But you have to remember someone sold it to BassBros substantially cheaper (I’d estimate about £2000 - £2200) which probably more accurately reflects its private market value. If you want to know how the vintage market is, try selling a vintage guitar back to the shop you bought it from. In most cases they’re not interested. Funny that… If you can get this at a good price and it plays well I can’t see you losing out.
  17. These the ones with the leather-ette pickguard? I had one years ago. Was a very odd bass.
  18. Website seems to be down.
  19. Simplest answer is usually the right one. Someone probably swapped out the pickups and did a DIY job (or sent it to a luthier) and then put it back to stock at some point. You could tell a bit more about that by the soldering probably.
  20. Yeah looks quite dried out. Not for me, but if it’s available at the right price then why not.
  21. The sunburst on that body is all shades of wrong for a Fender of that period. They have my brighter red in them. Could have been sun bleached of course but it doesn’t look right to me. -Edit- after looking a bit more closely it looks better than I thought. May just be a very light paint job and the route there may have been an aftermarket pickup that’s now been put right again.
  22. This is an excellent exercise for double bass and one I do regularly to keep my intonation ok. I’m still rubbish, obviously, but it’s helping.
  23. The Dingwall will have better resale value than the Ibanez. Can’t you chop in your old one? Alternatively, but on PayPal credit and pay it off over 4 months. That Dingwall bass looks amazing.
