  1. I don’t look like a rock star but my mother in law owns a house in the Seychelles that’s forms the entire of my wife’s retirement provision.
  2. I saw this bass down at Martin's workshop and it looked absolutely beautiful. I didn't play it (obviously!) Good luck with the sale.
  3. Just weighed it at a request of an interested party and she’s a very reasonable 4.3kg.
  4. I've got a complete set of Spirocore Weichs. These were used for 1 - 2 hours on my upright, then removed. I had to use the G for another bass (now sold) so I bought a new, sealed one. The whole set (E, A, D, G) can be yours for £110 delivered.
  5. Did a trade deal for my Eminence upright. Simple, stress free and an absolute top guy all round.
  6. They are wonderful instruments. I’d say everything is built to higher standards than the Fender reissues I’ve seen, with a higher attention to detail.
  7. Here for sale is my 1962 Bravewood Jaco Bass clone. It's a roadwork replica of one of the world's most famous basses, and Bravewood have done a fantastic job. I took this in trade against my genuine pre-CBS jazz and the neck is a really similar feel. The nitro finish feel genuinely like an old one, and the wear actually seems pretty accurate too. The bass has an ebony fingerboard, period-style reverse tuners and custom wound Pre-Cbs Bare knuckles pickups. The bass, and the hardware, and the next are purposefully distressed. Back of the neck finish is worn too, as you'd expect. Sound is 100% pure Jaco tone if you like that sort of thing, and if not, it's just a brilliant fretless. Like all Bravewood guitars it's a handmade instrument, built to the highest standards and feels (to me at least) as equivalent to, and in some respects superior than, the Fender reissues. Like all Bravewoods this has the period correct Fender logo, and nothing else. I know some people don't like this, but I respect Bravewood for what they're doing, and class this as a tribute rather than a fake. Price is £1350 collected from sunny (today, at least) Bristol. Trades are anything with a Fender logo on it. I don't want or need anything else. There is no case, although I do have a professional flight case I would consider selling with the bass. It's too heavy for me to send in the flight case. It was purchased by its previous owner here (I believe the correct listing is below...) )
  8. Here is my functional, quirky and a lot of fun Kala U Bass. This is the mahogany model, a Rumbler I believe. It comes with the case as pictured, and plays really well. It comes with an additional set of strings which are still sealed in the packet. Price includes postage in the UK. I can't see any marks on the bass, and certainly nothing that stands out. I got this as part of a trade, but I don't really play it as I'm now (hides face) playing guitar more. Based in Bristol if you want to come and take a look.
  9. Up for sale is my eminence Upright. This is the model with a removable neck, custom designed Fishman, the flight case, the soft case, and the stand! It's basically everything you need... I'm selling it because I don't really use it. I purchased it from the site here around a month ago, but it's in my house doing nothing and that seems a shame. You can see from the pictures that it's in very good condition, but there are some marks. The action is reasonably good, although you may want to lower it for fast jazz stuff. It's entirely up to you. The pickup is actually very good, and the bass really does amplify well. It's the closest you will get to an upright sound from an EUB (I've had most of them). The stand is actually really usable, and the bass rests on you with the strange - but highly functional - rest. The soft case is in good condition and the flight case usable, although there are two catches that have broken off. If you'd like any more images, let me know. I"m based in Bristol and would love for you to come and see it. Always interested in trades, but I don't need another EUB or DB.
  10. “Please send me a £10 note...” Legend.
  11. Totally agree. Its a great idea but when it turns into this cow poop experience it’s sad. People queuing up to buy records to flip for a few quid a couple of hours later...
  12. What you could do is to try and locate the instrument. Do you have the serial number of it and any photos? It may have gone abroad or be broken up for parts, but who knows. The '6 degrees of separation' thing is likely to be shortened in the small world of bass players. Has to be worth at least a try.
  13. Absolutely agree. I’ve met some fantastic people on FB too, but with the internet these bargains are few and far between so I’m always cautious particularly on FB.
  14. We’re all talking about objective criteria here but the truth is that you had an emotional attachment to that bass and it’s going to be hard to find that with another one. Try and explain it to anyone who isn’t a musician and they’d laugh; but we’ve all been through similar things. Youll never be able to replace the years of investment in that instrument and you’ll probably have to settle for the closest approximation.
  15. Great! It really does feel lovely when you’ve got a beautiful, clean and wonderful sounding upright bass. was playing my Bryant today and just want the same feeling (if at all possible) from the Eminence.
  16. Cool. I’ve got lemon oil for my electric basses but bought I’d ask the question...
  17. There is so much crap advertised on Facebook, and some really quite obvious fakes (to those that know). The problem is that the marketplace doesn't seem to have any admins who police the site. I've bought a couple of great things there, but I'd be wary and ask for advice.
  18. Hi all, just picked up an Eminence which is really nice. I need to clean the fingerboard and care for it. What would you guys suggest?
  19. It is indeed. It's a Barcus Berry Pickup. You can see the guys website here: http://barcusberry.com/product.cfm?ProductID=22 It's a nice thing, and I might be interested in it if you're looking to sell it? It's missing the pads I think to attach it to the bridge.
  20. Hi Andy, I know how you feel. I do the same with my DBS. Having a pro work on it just puts your mind at rest and Labella strings will exert more tension on the neck than the new Rotos on there (make sure you don’t ditch those strings, I only put them on last week for an hour!). I asked a friend and he recommended these guys in Stokes Croft: http://www.edgeguitarservices.co.uk/ I actually need to take a guitar to get looked at by SiCo sometime (I need the pickup rewound and I’ve heard they do a good job) so if you’re stuck I can drop it in with mine but won’t be until next week sometimes.
  21. They were friendly with me when I went in there a decade ago, to an extent that I still remember it now. I had the requisite bored girlfriend and time-waster countenance, but I ended up spending quite a lot of money in the end.
  22. Lovely chap with a great taste in basses!
