  1. Great interview, fantastic band.
  2. It's a lovely guitar and very reasonably priced. I've played 65 Jazzes that are the equivalent of pre CBS basses at about half the cost. Didn't some bloke from Led Zeppelin play a 65? Apparently they were quite good.
  3. This is the definition of jazz, I agree. I think the problem is that an aimless drum solo (or any aimless solo) doesn't push the music forward.
  4. I reckon one bass solo is about right per set is right too (unless the player is top quality!)
  5. Like all jazz it can sound great if done properly, and horrendous if done poorly! When you see some real players engaged in the exchange of ideas it can be mesmerising. Also, when you see great players they will only solo when they have something to 'say', rather than assuming they should solo on every tune. I reckon one drum solo a set is about right.
  6. More pics here. I've had this guitar for a number of years now and bought it from the original owner so there are no problems with me sharing the serial number (it's pictured). The reason I'm selling is that building work is more expensive than I'd budgeted for and I've recently picked up a beautiful PRS (on here in fact) that suits my needs alongside the other guitars I have.
  7. Here is one of the last from my guitar and bass clear out! It's a 1974 Telecaster Custom in full Keith Richards spec. As you can see this is a beautiful guitar. I've recently had it set up Simon at SiCo Setups (one of the nicest meant I've met, and a guitar legend) and he's made it sing again. He has cleaned it, set it up with D'Addarrio 9s and it's now perfect. The guitar is original condition, but has had a new Switchcraft jack socket and switch. It's now perfect working condition. The action is low, and the guitar plays wonderfully up and down the neck. I'm based in Bristol and happy to chat about any trades or offers you have, as well as cash. I don't want to send this. I don't have a box, and it can't be insured either. But I will happily meet to hand the guitar over. In fact, I've been to most of the service stations between here and London.
  8. Contract of sale is void if it’s based on false information. https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/misrepresentation-act-1967 Tell the guy the deal is off and learn a lesson from it.
  9. I’d say that’s possible a fair retail price, but not in a private sale; and the refin just destroys the value. A refin vintage Fender is worth about 50% of an all original, and I reckon that stands for these too. We can both agree £1800 is a bit steep!
  10. The last all original pre-EB Stingray I was offered on here was £1,500. Given this has been refinished / stripped I’d say it’s worth less than half what he’s asking.
  11. Boats and hos. My parents are both almost 70 and that is their favourite film.
  12. It sounds like the soundtrack to a yahcht sales video. Guessing that’s the 80s production.
  13. They don’t all get old gracefully, sadly... I’ve had my fair share of great ones and duds from all eras. Plus, if this goes to a collecter it won’t get played either, it’ll just sit there doing nowt. Shame!
  14. That’s a good point! It’s obviously a lovely looking thing, but it’s all about the condition and it’s scarcity than playability I guess. Personally, I don’t really like the colour!
  15. Perhaps it’s just me, but I’m always a little concerned when someone only has near mint condition guitars from the 50s and 60s in stock. They’re so rare and the value so obvious you do wonder where they all come from...
  16. Looking at it I think you had a lucky escape.
  17. Martin Penning is a double bass legend. To give you some idea of cost, an overhaul of my functional bass (neck reset, new bridge, new tailpiece, rebuilt tuners, new soundpost etc.) was £500. And that was with Martin generously doing some work for free because he’s just a thoroughly lovely man. Cosmetic improvements will be expensive and unless this bass is a rare one or built by a named and in demand luthier it’s not going to be economically viable. this looks like a very effective get poor quick scheme.
  18. The worlds best dust gatherers.
  19. I can concur. My ad is now marked sold, hopefully can get this one done soon!
  20. I listened to this today (not out of choice, I can’t really stand Prince, but it was on the radio), and there’s certainly a synth line underpinning it. 80s I spose.
  21. Worthy cause and a great idea. Good luck, and I hope Ellen gets better soon. Horrible disease that has touched us all at some point.
  22. You're a man who knows fine instruments, Jay!
  23. I have now got a case for this which I will make available if the buyer wants me to send it. I've had some interest, but it's still here.
