  1. Now £70. Come on, you know you want some furry Fender goodness!
  2. It is indeed. It's a Barcus Berry Pickup. You can see the guys website here: http://barcusberry.com/product.cfm?ProductID=22 It's a nice thing, and I might be interested in it if you're looking to sell it? It's missing the pads I think to attach it to the bridge.
  3. Hi Andy, I know how you feel. I do the same with my DBS. Having a pro work on it just puts your mind at rest and Labella strings will exert more tension on the neck than the new Rotos on there (make sure you don’t ditch those strings, I only put them on last week for an hour!). I asked a friend and he recommended these guys in Stokes Croft: http://www.edgeguitarservices.co.uk/ I actually need to take a guitar to get looked at by SiCo sometime (I need the pickup rewound and I’ve heard they do a good job) so if you’re stuck I can drop it in with mine but won’t be until next week sometimes.
  4. They were friendly with me when I went in there a decade ago, to an extent that I still remember it now. I had the requisite bored girlfriend and time-waster countenance, but I ended up spending quite a lot of money in the end.
  5. Lovely chap with a great taste in basses!
  6. That's true. It's my fault. The good news is that with our continued policies of austerity there will be many more derelict factories out there!
  7. Working in a factory doesn’t have the Be piece work on a production line. The men and women at Airbus for example are all highly skilled engineers. And more people applied to a Rolls Royce apprenticeship scheme than applied to Oxbridge. We can develop high skill industries in this country if we wanted to, it’s just that our Government can’t or won’t do so. Successive Governments have done the same thing. Very sad really.
  8. I wanted it too! It's a very valuable book that one, so if anyone has a copy, let me know too.
  9. I genuinely have no idea. I’m not even sure how I own them, but they actually sounded good last time I listened to them and have Chinese writing on them.
  10. That picture makes it look like I have very small feet but I’ve just checked and it’s a quirk of the light.
  11. I’ve got a 90s Fender Red label case. Apparently these are now quite rare. This is in great condition, but the handle has been replaced. No keys. £75 - price includes delivery.
  12. Some bits and bobs still here, make me an offer as I want it all gone...!
  13. I"m not allowed to play it during the day! I do sometimes stay late and have a play, and can pop in over the weekend too if I get the chance. I wish I could do an hour a day like I used to when I worked at home and had no kids!
  14. This is good advice. Plus, if you display it in your house just about everyone who ever visits will be impressed even if it's a massively battered Czech beast from the 60s. I've taken it to the extreme and I now have my DB in my office, which I think has directly led to at least one contract being won.
  15. Best damn city in the world (it’s not).
  16. My suggestion would be to find a good teacher and get a few lessons before you spend a lot of money. Many shops will let you trial a bass for a few quid a month, and they’re usually well set up too (as you’d hope). Also, your teacher may be able to source an instrument or to test out any instrument you may be interested in. These are all the things I should have done, but didn’t. I was lucky finding a wonderful sounding bass for little money and then getting an amazing luthier to work on it. If I did it again, I’d do what I’ve described above.
  17. Glorious colour Stingray for sale. Didn’t expect it to still be here but there are a lot of Stingrays for sale I guess!
  18. Nice! You have to love Americans.
  19. Hi Andy, I’m in the same position (baby number 2, not 4!) I’ve got about £15k tied up in gear, but before that it wasn’t closer to £30! I sold two pre-CBS basses here and feel much happier because that money has been spent on the house and on getting rid of any debts. I have one bass and one upright I’ll jeep regardless of what happens, the others I don’t have any attachment too. If I sold them, it would be fine. I wouldn’t do anything rash, but a bit of reflection is always useful. Playing music is a great thing to do, and can brighten up the darkest of times.
  20. Here we have some bass bits I'm clearing out. Some good, some bad, and some a little bit ugly... Descriptions below and photos to follow... Postage extra and done as cheaply as possible. Jazz Bass Body - Sold Chinese Jazz Bass Pickups - £10 Cheap, cheerful and remarkably good. Fender Style Bridge - £6 Nice, no idea where from. 75' Reissue Pickguard - Sold Tort Pickguard - Sold Fender aged-thumbrest - £6 Got this fitted to a Bravewood, but I've taken it off as I like the no-pickguard look. 70s Strat Pickup Cover - £6 Had this years and years, and bought it as being from a 70s Strat. It seems to be accurate (I've had quite a few) but I can't provide it, hence being cheap for a punt.
  21. Agreed. Nowadays you can split the fee I believe, which is sort of like insurance I guess.
  22. Paypal won't intervene if you call it a gift, which is what most people do. I agree though, if possible it's always worth meeting in person. I wouldn't send a guitar or amplifier to someone I met through Gumtree. But that's just me being a bit old school.
