I gave up for nearly 10 years as I just didn't find playing music fun or interesting anymore. World kept turning and now I enjoy it again. Invest your time and energy in things you love and your life will be worth it. (And don't spend too much time at work!) Best of luck for the future.

Nice one! What a curio this is. Give Jo Bonamassa a call and treble your money.

I guess my concern is that you’ll be leaving the bass on the floor which will result in damage. Could you potentially use a wall hook? Alternatively, given the majority of the weight is at the base, something like this might work. https://www.yamahamusiclondon.com/product.php?product_id=STD-01-RD&source=froogle&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD8vqVrIDqoEE3jUQps9Wzmh2jJgp&gclid=Cj0KCQiAgdC6BhCgARIsAPWNWH0xf1NMchvgRIYACGEaF2D1Mg44jZFOuvxqR9yZt3EdRmmnOqTJe8IaAps6EALw_wcB Still be precarious but if you don’t have little kids running around it might be OK?

Played a hellish gig in centre of the city. Audience twice drunkenly crashed into the singer while dancing. Drunk redhead thought she was J-Lo and danced suggestively to wind up her boyfriend (which worked). Two people thought it would be a good idea to lift lift out and play the singers harmonicas and someone tried to barge past me while I was playing to get his coat (which I’d already told him I’d moved). I swore at him and pushed him and he spent the next ten minutes staring at me me. (Was a very small, angry lawyer type.) Only saving grace was the fantastic bar staff and manager and the fact I got two incredible whisky sour cocktails for free.

I started gigging mine again until I found a replacement would cost me £12,999 at Andy Baxter. Since been retired once again!

if it doesn’t bring you joy, or have any use, get rid of it. I did that with all my unwanted and unused gear. Lost a few quid but mentally much happier.

Haha I love this. Currently at a gig with my £500 DB and it’s ideal. When I last gigged with my vintage Fender I was a nervous wreck.
-
You reckon? I’ve seen a lot of stuff hanging around for a long time. Perhaps you’re right.

it’s a full price but that’s London, I guess.

I think the risk is very low here and you can always reduce it further by providing clear attribution. In the end, if it's a non-commercial endeavour, it's unlikely anyone will seek to take legal action. If they do, you'll receive a notice to take it down. As the original author, I guess it depends on the contract you signed at the time. My friend who is a photographer licenses images for specific usage but retains the copyright of them. You may find you retain the copyright of your work and have no issues reproducing it. So publishing the words on your blog might be fine, but an image of the text in a magazine may pose a problem. We're currently involved in a legal "conversation" with a client about content ownership. My view is once they've paid the invoice they own it all (and assume the risk for publishing it). They want us to "own" the risk in perpetuity, which I said we could do but they would need to pay a substantial fee on an ongoing basis. Over to the legal eagles it goes...

Brilliant! I'll watch this later when I get home from my gig. If you want some more double bass culture, this story by Checkov always stays with me. Recently re-read it. Incredible writer. https://shortstoryproject.com/stories/romance-with-a-double-bass/

I made the same mistake!

The fretboard is a nice forum.

Thanks for this. Looks like it will be the Mark Bass.

Apperciate the insight here. I need a small practice amp for home and basic band stuff. Would you recommend the PJB or Markbass? Price wise they're the same ballpark and I'd be buying new. (Any small difference in price doesn't really bother me as I've got 12 gigs this December so that'll more than pay for it).

Very good.

Stanley Clarke pre amp is wonderful bit of kit. Perfect for DB and also if you need to switch between upright and electric as well as sending a signal to front of house. Used mine for 60 or more gigs this year and it’s been flawless. Notch filter is very responsive to the environment. Probably overkill if you play at home or in the same place or a small and acoustically stable environment, but when I have to adapt to a different room most times it’s great. (But not cheap!)
