  1. Our band booker does all this stuff in January when there are no gigs, it's dark outside and nobody is doing anything else. She gets a list of local festivals and specialist ones that cater for our type of music. Apparently, you need a high quality video of you playing, so we got one of those (a student did it for £250 and was amazing, so we now use him to work for us professionally where he earns substantially more), and some good promo shots. A short band profile is useful too, apparently. Then it's a numbers game. As soon as you've been at one festival and done a good job, things pick up from there. Remember to be respectful (I'm not suggesting you wouldn't, but you know what some bands are like!), and give them time to do their work and select the right bands for the audience.
  2. I hate when this happens. Did you register the amp with GK? Should have an extended warranty and it’s important to message them and see what happens. Any electrical item can develop faults I guess. I hope it’s sorted out soon and cheaply.
  3. Sometimes, the simple things do work!
  4. These pedals need a new home. Will be donated to some school or something if nobody wants them soon.
  5. If this is about the money and you’re desperate for it, then stand your ground. If it’s about losing face then be the bigger person and walk away and figure it out when tensions are lessened. I fell out with friends over a band when I was younger and I acted impulsively. When emotions are high and we feel we’ve been poorly treated we can lash out which can perpetuate the issue. Let them do the gig, get your cash in the future and move onto something more fun.
  6. Yeah lovely. I do love jazz, I should point out I just want to play something else. I particularly want to explore folk and bluegrass stuff, but the examples here so far have been really great. I’m going to build a playlist. Seen Red Snapper a good 10 times I think and always amazing. Last time I caught Covid at the gig but I don’t hold it against them.
  7. This is great. I love Richard Thompson, but the first track is new to me. What a tone he gets.
  8. I see Edger Meyer and Christian McBride play play in Bristol once. Was pretty amazing. Will start where you suggest!
  9. Really cool. Not stuff I’d ever considered. Thanks!
  10. I’ve recently enjoyed playing along to songs from the Wood Brothers, Billy Strings, John Martin and Gregory Porter but need to add to my repertoire. (I love jazz but I don’t want to play walking basslines. I know Gregory Porter is considered jazz, but they’re not walking basslines and are fine. I know there are many other jazz tracks without walking basslines and I listen to them too.) So, I thought I’d asked you learned people for examples of good DB playing in different genres that I can use for inspiration, practice and tone study.
  11. A friend works in a bookshop and she said that people will open the Amazon app in the shop and buy the book there. It’s mad
  12. Agreed. Also, with high priced electrical goods, if you can prove that the fault was there when you bought it (dodgy fan, etc) then you can claim a refund up to 6 years after you bought it. (Consumer Rights Act) Manufacturers selling high value items can’t simply put their hands up after 13 months and say it’s not their responsibility - even if they try.
  13. The Jack Cassidy basses are wonderful. I’ve played them a couple of times and they’re just excellent instruments and good value for money.
  14. Will do. I have to say the service from Thomann was amazing for a low value item. I spoke with someone there and literally measured the bass on a video call. The chap went away and processed all the details to find me what he considered would fit. And if it doesn’t I can return it back for free. I tried 3 UK bass shops (via email) and had no response.
  15. Cheers Nick. I’ve got a 1/4 case on the way which should fit (as you can remove the top scroll bit). If that doesn’t work it’s Bass Bags!
  16. I was wondering about this as well. It's really annoying!
  17. People buy something new and don’t play but still assume they can sell it ‘as new’ - when it’s obviously considered used. Always the same.
  18. It may be worth posting in the “General” section (if that’s allowed). Possibly more likely to find someone in NI that could help you. Would lend you the David Gage, but you’re quite far away!
  19. If you can read the dots you’ll find loads of good stuff here. http://en.instr.scorser.com/SS/Double+bass/All/Étude.html
  20. Yes, that’s how it should be. On reflection my price is too high as well so I’ve made mine the same as yours. Not trying to hijack this; I wish you the best of luck.
  21. Crikey this is a great deal!
  22. The process is also very simple. I’ve done it.
  23. Looks lovely. As a polite suggestion, it might be a good idea to get the bridge fitted and sell it when it’s 100% perfect. That’s what I’d do. Good luck with it!
