Eddie, it’s your life bro and you can do what you want. I think the whole bass community knows that Jon sucks. You’re not helping us, or yourself... We all want you to get a bass you cherish and love and that isn’t going to come from Jon. I’m sorry. Even if it arrives it’s going to disappoint you.

Ahh, this happened to me! The courier claims they delivered it (but they didn’t as they were in a rush). They then come back and drop the parcel off a few days later. I have correspondence somewhere from a delivery company explaining this is what had happened. Guess it’s that the courier had too much work on.

Chris means well. Every time you engage with Jon and post it, you perpetuate this. In the end, we all know nothing will happen and you’ll become more and more exasperated with him. Chris’s way is the fastest way to heal. I appreciate you’ve lost money and that’s awful but you need to weigh this against the emotional impact of continuing with this. You’re not helping the bass community by harming yourself.

Every new business needs customers otherwise we’d end up with just Fender and Gibson. In the end, you have to put your trust in people sometimes, and they can let you down (as has happened here). I wouldn’t take the attitude and approach of Jon as indicative of every small scale luthier.

Here is my quite fantastic EBS HD350. This can do everything from slap bass funk to deep and delicious flatwound jazz and blues. I’ve had it for about 5 years and it works flawlessly. I’ve bought the flight case which fits it really well. Its a heavyweight amp that’s built to perform and I’ve loved it but now I need something a little lighter. Trials in Bristol welcome!

I never get why people buy things, don't use them and then add stupid stuff like a chrome cover (which this bass never had). Doughnut.

I’ve emailed the fellas at Thomann. They’ve previously been very helpful so let’s see what they say.

This is the last bass I have that I’m selling. It’s a 1990-1991 Squier Japan Precision. The bass has been professionally set up, the pots have and jack socket have been replaced and it’s got a new set of D’Addarrio Chromes on it. The bass has wear and tear and has been used. The vintage frets are quite low as I’ve tried to picture. There are marks on the back of the neck and the bass finish has scratches as you’d expect. I guess you’d class it as vintage nowadays… The bass is light (will weight it tomorrow) and has a very narrow jazz bass style neck. I can add a soft case. Collection is preferred, but I can now post. Reduced to £299

Yeah I get all that, but it’ll be better than the 3/4 case I currently use!

I’m not sticking up for the guy and he may end up being a scumbag, but people want the cheapest way to send parcels and that’s through a third party. Third parties make it even worse to try and figure out what’s happening. Parcelforce won’t actually deal with you if you’ve booked through an intermediary. We’re all hoping it works out!

I’m sorry but I’ve been on his side of this. eBay offers zero protection to sellers. Buyers can - and do - sometimes claim items haven’t arrived and claim compensation. If he’s given you the tracking details what more can he do? Royal Mail is under huge pressure at the moment and deliveries can take some time. I’d give it until the end of the week and see what happens. Again, if you paid through eBay there is zero risk. If you kick up a fuss now and the cab does turn up (which in 99% of cases it will) you’ll have created a load of hassle for nothing.
-
You have to decide whether this is the fault of the seller or the courier. If you’re sure he sent it, then it’s not his fault and personally I’d give him the benefit of the doubt. If you believe he’s ripped you off, sent an empty cardboard box or lied about jt, that’s a different matter. In the end you’re 100% certain to get your money back. I’m guessing an old Eden cabinet isn’t worth much, so I’d wait a bit and see what happens. Or you could message every 38 minutes like someone did before when a £13 item didn’t turn up the day after I sent it.

Yeah. I’ve heard from two sources now that they’re prohibitively expensive. I’m going to try a normal 1/2 case. The dimensions all check out, so let’s hope it works. I’ve got a Barefaced cab that does the job I need but I’m a huge fan of the matching head and cab.
-
I’m just joking around.
-
It sounds wonderful and I think we’d all like to see it. If you asked me when I bought my Barefaced 1x10 cab I’d have no idea, and that was a few years ago.
-
Thanks Mark. The inside of the case had all perished and whenever you put it on the bass it left it covered in a cost of sticky residue. It was quite disgusting and so I binned it rather than having it in my house! Apparently the bass has been to I did and the extreme heat had done it a real damage. And yes, I’m loving the bass actually. What strings did you have on yours? The ones on there at the moment are OK, but I’m looking to upgrade when I get the cash. Would love you TE cab as well so I need to get saving.

That assumes the factory producing the pots delivered them to the factory in the same month they were manufactured, which is possible but unlikely.

This is precisely what it is. As well as getting a kickback for arranging the loan, the car dealer can also add a percentage on top. (Let’s say you were approved for a loan at 5%, the dealer arranges it at 7% and can pocket a bigger commission.) This is going to be another mis-selling scandal. Which details here: https://www.which.co.uk/news/article/car-finance-fca-investigation-what-you-need-to-know-a4eXb5u8VeBy When I went to buy my car, I asked for a cash discount and I got £50 off a £9000 car. We had a good chat and the guy told me that was because the fuel was low, and when I checked, it was.
-
What people say and the reality can often get very mixed up. I’d discount almost anything a seller told me and use the latest part dates as a guide (as someone here suggested). There’s little difference between a 75 and 76, but I know people have a preference for the larger Precision logo.
-
I have to agree with this. In recent years my business has lost substantially more than the sums here by two people who commissioned work, used it and never paid. Their behaviour was worryingly similar to that of a John here and I think that he is (again) leading you on a merry dance and at some point will come back to you and explain how his “mental health problems have stopped him from delivering the bass and that he’ll make you a priority etc.” It seems to be his way of working.
-
This is sort of a joke, but I hate to see anyone ripped off by dishonest people like Jon. I recently had my kitchen done and the guys took no payment at all until it was done and we were happy.
-
If it got really bad then I’d buy some of his basses off Reverb totalling the value of yours, pay with a credit card, enact a chargeback and see what happens.

Especially given the massive rise on online fraud. It’s a sensible option.
