Is August a horrible month for bass sales?
Burns-bass replied to Paolo85's topic in General Discussion
I agree with this. Some of the prices for stuff is just mad. People are trying ahop prices for private sales then getting upset when nobody is interested… The same issues is affecting the car market, too. Private sale values are nuts for 18 year old cars. -
That’s a lot of gear! As well as the Barefaced cabs I’ve got an Ampeg valve amp. I could sell that and keep them all (but I don’t want to, obviously).

For sale Ken Smith BSR 6EG 2008 - *SOLD*

I’d seen this and Alex actually told me the 2 x 10s would suit me best. Coupled with the real world experiences of people here suggest that’s the best option in terms of size, weight and convenience. Thanks all.
-
This was my hope. The 10s are also easier to carry and store

Good question. I currently don’t have a car so it’s not an option. My practice space (loft) is becoming our master bedroom hence the need to downsize:

Hello! I have 2 x Barefaced 1x10 cabs (love them) and a Barefaced Midget. I don't have a huge amount of space anymore, and I wanted some live advice as to whether the 2 x 1x10s would be as loud as the Midget. (If it is I'll put the Midget up for sale). Anyone used this set up before? I don't want to sell the Midget then find that the 10s aren't going to deliver the power I need. We're talking pubs, small clubs etc. Sometimes I can add a bit of bass to the PA if needed.

Valuation of instruments for insurance purposes
Burns-bass replied to sprocketflup's topic in Bass Guitars
Do you need an independent valuation? When insuring mine I simply told them what they were worth (replacement value) and received no issues. -
In some ways it’s quite positive that people are willing to pay such a large amount for tickets. Given streaming pays nearly nothing (unless you’re a superstar) I guess live dates are where they make 90% of their cash. In this instance, nobody is upset that they’re charging a fortune (as I said, my friend group checked out when it became clear the event would cost the same as a cheap foreign holiday). Instead, it’s the way that surge pricing was introduced. This wasn’t part of the deal and it seems really cruel. If you want to see what happens when bands get it wrong take a look at the Black Keys US arena tour…

Gifted a 4/4 UB, needs love, clueless!
Burns-bass replied to Misowaki's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Where are you based? If you’re local to me I’d happily help you out. -
This is exactly it. The system is designed to pressure you into making a decision. Imagine the situation. You've accepted you'll pay £150 for a ticket and spend anything from 4-6 hours waiting for your chance. When you get in, your heart rate is up and you see the tickets. But they're more expensive. There's a count down timer which will boot you out if you don't buy. The rational part of your brain is saying no, but you want the hit of the purchase and you can afford it (just). So you dig out your credit card, get the hit and then the long and precipitous drop happens. A lot of people can't figure out why they did something so stupid, they just did. Ticketmaster knows exactly what it's doing and the ways to encourage people to spend recklessly...

I like the 90s hip hop style font. Guess album covers not such a big deal in the streaming age.
-
I’m sure what you mean. Most people would spend £150 on tickets without some agreement they’d be reimbursed. In my own friend group there were several people trying to get tickets with the agreement they’d be paid back. My point is that people are very, very flakey. It’s hard enough getting 5 middle aged men into a rehearsal studio for a pre-booked 2 hours session. The amount of tickets put up for sale over the next 10 months will be incredible. I’m going to state again I’m confident that if you want tickets, you’ll be able to get them.
-
On this we are in 100% agreement!
-
Im guessing that Ticketmaster would have bid for the contract to sell tickets. They’ll be taking a fee from punters and probably one from the band also. The lowest fee paid by the band wins. It’s a big undertaking to process all the cash, manage data, originate tickets etc.
-
I’m sure that’s true of a vanishingly small number of people but they’re shifted over 1 million tickets… For a lot of people they’ve bought into the hype and it’ll be a long way down.
-
This assumes the logic of supply and demand is fixed, when of course it isn't. The Oasis ticket thing is being manipulated by the band and with the willing complicity of the media to create a situation where people are obviously not acting logically. There was genuine hysteria on Saturday morning and in the cold light of day (or when the credit card bill drops through mailbox) there will be a lot of angry people. People were acting on imperfect information and forced to make a decision in seconds. Lots of people made bad decisions. I still wholeheartedly believe that anyone who wants a ticket and can afford it will probably get one before next July. What I'm interested in is whether those who paid surge pricing for a standing ticket can ask for the same price on official resale sites? If so, there's a fair argument that anyone who bought a £150 ticket could charge up to £500. As for me, I was half interested in seeing them (I was at V Festival when the didn't show up, having broken up the night before), but there's no way on earth I'm paying £500.

I’m getting some work done on the loft and need to clear out some space. This job lot contains: 2 x guitar stands 1 x acoustic stand 2 x music stands strap, lead, 2 boxed pedals, a retro pedal (probably doesn’t work). You can have it for £35 delivered in the Uk. Will sell individual bits but prefer it all goes.

As with vintage Fenders the price advertised and the price paid are often very different things. Remember when people were paying hundreds of pounds for Teletubby toys? It’s the same thing… Wait it out and you’ll get a ticket at face value. My wife does this for the Eurovision final pretty much every year and it always works.
-
You’ve invested time and want the dopamine hit. It’s calculated to get you to spend (waste) money to get the hit. I wish I was joking but it’s how it works. Same as gambling. In the end, you’d be better off saving your money and waiting for resale tickets. When people realise it’s not the huge cultural phenomenon they’ve been led to believe (because they’ll tour Europe and the States) they’ll start appearing. I’d they’re serious about fighting touts too then that’ll mean even more availability. Half of my mates don’t even know what’s happening next week. Asking them to plan a year in advance is going to be a disaster… Finally, a lot of people have bought tickets assuming mages will pay them back. People are useless and say one thing and when it comes to forking out £160 to stand in the rain, they’ll possibly decide the other way. Basically, if you want a ticket I’m near certain you’ll be able to get one if you wait.

Fender Pbass MIJ Hybrid II/Okamoto/Traditional
Burns-bass replied to Chadu25's topic in Bass Guitars
I believe @wateroftyne had one and can provide an expert view. I remember the Okamoto came with excellent reviews!
