  1. Just to add, this is the official David Gage moulded flight case that was built for this bass. It’s been used but in good condition, with no damage or cracks. I simply don’t have the space to keep the case and bass. I’m currently on holiday in Spain and the case is about 860 miles away, but if it’s required, I can take images. What I don’t have is the fitted soft case that came with the bass. (As explained on another thread, this perished when the bass was in India on a tour. The case seemed to have melted, and would leave a sticky residue all over the bass when it was used – not nice!).
  2. Seems standing tickets are £150. That’s punchy. In fact, that’s more than the cost of flying to Majorca (where I am currently). As much as I enjoy Oasis, I think a holiday might represent better value.
  3. I’m reducing the price of this. Sale is mostly because the flight case is so big and I have nowhere to store it. In the pretty unlikely situation that you want the flight case but not the bass, I will sell this separately. Overall package reduced to £1850. I’m losing money but that’s life
  4. Absolutely. Given what Brian has said, however, I’m guessing it’s been bought here at a knock down price and sold higher. That would be OK if they were contributing to the forum, sharing knowledge and insights - but they’re not. It’s just using access to cash to pick up cheap basses and make a profit. Again, that’s cool if that’s how you want to live. What it will do is stop me selling basses cheap here as the risk is that someone will do just that - buy cheap and make a few hundred quid immediately. I messaged Chris late last week as I have a late 70s Grabber bass I bought for an incredible price on here. I’d happily sell it here for the same price I bought it for, but I’d be gutted if some dealer picked it up and turned it round a £1000 more expensive (which is what we’re talking about here).
  5. Sad business in a way. But I guess it’s the modern world.
  6. I’m not sure how I feel about that. I wanted to buy a well priced Xotic bass here that ended up a lot higher priced on BassBros. A lot of the deals here are because people have invested in and feel part of a community. I guess it’s morally no different from individuals who engage in guitar flipping. Not a business I’d want to get into…
  7. £1800 give or take? That’s what I reckoned too.
  8. I didn’t know that Will buys from the classifieds here but it makes sense.
  9. In the end, enjoying it is pretty much 100%. The more you play the closer you’ll get to the sound you want. My view is in the end you’ll probably get a double bass (I did) and the joy of playing that it amazing. In fact, I don’t play electric bass at home ever. It’s 100% DB.
  10. This is precisely how I’d describe Stereophonics. How those lads made a career out of what they do I’ll never know (although the lead singer is a a handsome chap so I’m sure that’s part of it!)
  11. I had one and it was a bit of a wacky bass. They refined the design and everything with the MK1 and subsequent basses. These just felt really odd to me. Was heavy, weird collection of parts, horrid knobs.
  12. The simplicity of the music is appealing. I was having coffee with a friend who started to play guitar to Oasis records. He still does and it brings him a lot of joy. Hate war, famine and violence, but be apathetic about Oasis.
  13. If you’re playing in a covered band in a pub you should respect what Oasis did for live music. They acted as a gateway for many people of my age (40s) to get into guitar based music. From there I’ve moved on to more esoteric stuff, but Oasis was the start…
  14. Relax. The systems work in batches and it’ll show up soon enough. I wasted time and energy on this and all was well in the end.
  15. Chalk it up to experience. A month or so ago we did a gig at a pub which was ostensibly part of a larger festival programme. We were paid by the venue but it turns out that none of the bands who played the festival were paid a penny. Would have been ok but our singer told them all we’d been paid. This caused quite a lot of strife!
  16. Didn’t think these were particularly desirable to be fair.
  17. A few friends of mine are going and I’ll go along as well. Be an expensive trip down memory lane but it’s all harmless, isn’t it? I don’t understand the anger aimed at them to be honest. It’s all an act at the end of the day. Rock and roll, etc.
  18. The paradox of relicing is the attempt to make authentic wear - which is by its very nature random and unpredictable - into something that can be replicated. One of the most prominent marks on my 66 Fender is from where I placed a wine glass on it and something reacted with the paint to cause a mark. I also used Pledge on the finish which probably wasn’t a good idea. Scraping that off quickly caused a bit of wear too! Given I’ve played it a few times in the last 10 years I guess it doesn’t matter, but the point remains.
  19. Slow and steady! It’s worth getting a lesson if you can, simply as someone experienced can diagnose and fix any poor technique. Failing that, Discover Double Bass is a wonderful resource. Looks like a great bass. Personally I try to play every day for at least 15 minutes. On some days I’ll do a few hours and gigs can last anything from 1-3 hours so you need the stamina!
  20. The problem you might have here is a private seller trying to get back the same price they paid at BassBros. I appreciate people always do this. But you have to remember someone sold it to BassBros substantially cheaper (I’d estimate about £2000 - £2200) which probably more accurately reflects its private market value. If you want to know how the vintage market is, try selling a vintage guitar back to the shop you bought it from. In most cases they’re not interested. Funny that… If you can get this at a good price and it plays well I can’t see you losing out.
  21. These the ones with the leather-ette pickguard? I had one years ago. Was a very odd bass.
  22. Website seems to be down.
  23. I absolutely love this.
  24. Simplest answer is usually the right one. Someone probably swapped out the pickups and did a DIY job (or sent it to a luthier) and then put it back to stock at some point. You could tell a bit more about that by the soldering probably.
  25. Yeah looks quite dried out. Not for me, but if it’s available at the right price then why not.
