  1. Happens on all forums. I’m a member on several other forums (non-bass related) and people will do this to try and raise a few quid. It’s a bit of a sad way to make money and as a business model it’s entirely unsustainable as goodwill quickly evaporates. What’s more annoying is that the practice works to inflate the prices of used items which ultimately costs us all more money (if you buy stuff, obviously). Whenever I lose out on something I remind myself that there’s a 90% chance I’d sell it on in any case.
  2. I have now bought one! Not had the chance to set it up but will hopefully do so this week.
  3. I’m gigging 5 times a month with a 2000 Musima double bass. Its cheap and cheerful and sounds good. I’d dearly love a vintage bass but it’s not necessary at the moment.
  4. It’s reassuring to see a lot of long term owned basses here. I’m not saying you can’t instantly have a connection but (without wishing to romanticise too much) you do build a relationship with an instrument over years.
  5. 1966 and all original. Used at all my electric gigs so that’s 40 or so a year.
  6. These are exceptional basses and the price is phenomenal.
  7. We did a session here. The idea is that you use the first take and that’s it.
  8. Here is a lovely Chowny SWB-1. It’s the active model. No wear to the frets, just had a brand new set of chromes fitted, full set up and it sounds great! Purchased as a backup to my Jazz it I can’t swap between the two so I’ll just stick with my jazz basses for now. No case but can ship it I’m sure. Its a made in India model. Looking for Now £365
  9. Sorry, this is what I used. I think you recommended this to me before and it worked wonderfully well. Got them on Amazon. I still keep them in my gig box.
  10. “Attentional space” is a great phrase. instead of shouting “get out of the f@kin way” I’m going to shout “please exit my attentional space!”
  11. I’m sure it’s not a good idea on delicate finishes but one bass I got I used antibacterial wipes as it genuinely was rank.
  12. There’s little you can do with a DB but you can damn we’ll look at the audience! I learned to play reading music so my technique requires me to look at the audience. Smile, make eye contact, sing BVs - make the gig as fun as possible:
  13. I don’t think it would be possible to exist and not have heard some of these amazing tracks. Glad you’ve joined us here.
  14. This is why I’m friends with my local guitar tech. Not only is he a lovely man but he enjoys working on such instruments. He’s got two kids and works hard. I would see the £50 spent on this as representing amazing value. Good luck with the new bass. It looks amazing.
  15. All excellent advice. The “Discover Double Bass” intro lessons are truly fantastic.
  16. Reckon you’re probably the only one…
  17. Great purchase. Too many DB starters struggle with awful instruments (I’m talking from experience). Having a well set up bass makes a huge difference. Welcome to the club. Given how in demand db players are you’ll probably be gigging in a few weeks…
  18. I think the struggles you’ve had are felt up and down the country at the moment. If only it were a country of bass players! Best of luck mate.
  19. Fantastic generosity and a wonderful cause. My daughter has SEND and the support from the state can be challenging (in some cases, impossible) to access. Can’t wait to see the plans for the money and the impact it’ll have. You’ll have to start a new build thread, but I’m not sure where. NBD - New build day? Best of luck to you and the lovely family.
