  1. This is a cool and super portable preamp I used for my EUB. Bought from the legend that is Chris, and its now up for sale as the EUB has gone and I use a Stanley Clarke for DB gigs. I paid £55 which is a significant saving on the “street price” but it’s up for the same. Personally, I preferred this to the Fishman. Specs here: The Gigpro is an all discrete Class A single channel belt clip acoustic Preamp that eliminates the need for on board active electronics on your prized instrument. Much like any great stage work tool, it makes any acoustic Pickup sound better and provides fingertip control right at your side. The Gigpro features: Adjustable Gain Passive 2-band EQ bass trim control (especially helpful when working with multiple ukuleles) phase inversion 9V Phantom Power Runs on a single 9V Battery
  2. Don’t think the original post was begging for a bass. We’re part of a community and are happy to help. it’s sort of what (virtual) friends do.
  3. Tis’ the season of goodwill to all people! Seems we’ve got this sorted. My Gio is here is that’s required. Inspired by this I’ll do another giveaway later when I see what stuff I have at home.
  4. I’m in the Forest of Dean tomorrow if you can get there to collect one. Long term loan, it’s a beauty.
  5. Absolutely agree. If you’re nervous, exercise caution! As with all woodwork, as long as you approach things slowly and with care you won’t cause any damage.
  6. Perhaps let’s take a step back and address the question instead of transforming this into incomprehensible techno-babble. The answer to your original question is: yes. There are also environmental factors (heat, humidity, etc) that can affect the neck. The advice to make minor adjustments to the truss rod is a good one. Also be sure to adjust the saddle height too if changing neck relief. A truss rod is a very effective but pretty crude tool. Don’t be afraid to experiment with it, as marking minor adjustments won’t break it. Always use the correct tool or you could damage the truss rod adjuster which is really annoying! I never felt the need to let things “settle”. It’s a rod of metal in a wood neck, not an antique violin. Don’t overthink it. It’s very simple.
  7. I won't have a bad word said against the Ibanez GSR200. I have one and it's amazing. Light as a feather, punch electronics, looks great, and if it got nicked at a gig I'd buy another with the money I just earned. In fact, my expensive basses have strings that cost more than this bass.
  8. This is the problem with a budget brand. When you buy one at the mega impressive entry prices it’s always hard to justify it when their business model necessitates a price rise. Personally, these all look a bit dull.
  9. Love a studio session. Music is mad sometimes, just have to enjoy the ride. Got my audition with the tribute band. Set up my bass with Rotos with a low action and that 90s clank from my EBS amp. Let’s see how it goes. As long as it’s fun, it’s worth doing.
  10. Yep, it’s a wonderful thing we can all do. Sometimes it’s worth reflecting on it. I’ve been invited to audition for a tribute act playing stuff I loved when I was 15. They gig all over and it’s well paid, and it’s quite funny how I’ve gone forward and then gone back in my musical journey… Whats also hilarious is (independently of you) I was shopping for a Ripper bass.
  11. Wishing you the best of luck. Music genuinely does save lives some times. I’m hoping you find a band that you’re happy with. If the joy of music ever leaves you, hope you find something to fill the void. Personally, I found playing in front of people in a band rekindled my love for all things bass.
  12. He seems a good guy. But they all do until you wave cash at them. One of my favourite podcasters recently sold out and started doing ads for a gambling company. Gambling destroys lives and kills people. It really is that simple. Personally, I’d exercise some discretion in what I did if I were hugely rich and successful. Thankfully I’m neither, but I do have a clear moral conscience.
  13. Fair point. Be sure to keep us updated with what you find OP.
  14. Can I ask what you expect to find out? I'm not sure he'll be able to confirm whether or not John did own the bass, and even if he did, it's hardly likely to increase its value. (I say this kindly as someone who owned a bass previously played and owned by John Entwistle.) Guess it's all part of the history, but I wouldn't let this dictate whether or not you enjoy what looked to be a very lovely and competitively priced early 70s Precision.
  15. Everyone in the world considers themselves too smart to be influenced by ads, yet spending on them goes up year on year. The fact we’re discussing the advert and using the brand name means it’s working. This is literally how it works. Lidl used to suffer from brand perception issues. Not necessarily with the quality, but middle class people were ashamed or embarrassed to shop there. The brand has successfully repositioned itself in the UK, and is now making a legitimate move for the “big 4”. Its achieved this through a combination of above the line and below the line marketing and it’s incredibly successful. In fact, I’m currently enjoying a Lidl smoothie. All hail out cut price German overlords.
  16. Marketing doesn’t work in such a linear fashion, but it does work, or why would they pay for it? Christmas Ads are all about brand building and shifting the perception of the brand among customers. The reason you go into Lidl and don’t turn your nose up at it is the brand building Lidl has done in the UK which has been very impressive. This has helped them ride through scandals (the chicken one, for example) with little impact. I genuine despise the way that advertising in this country is considered art and somehow part of our culture, but I can’t deny it’s effective.
  17. Any country that considers advertising as part of culture is dead. Buble is a dead eyed, fat baby man who is destroying Christmas.
  18. My aluminium double bass was my best purchase. Finally started gigging on DB and really enjoying it. Worst purchase was a Cali Compressor. £260 to make me sound worse.
  19. I have two: Pink FSR jazz bass – used exclusively for about 30 gigs, all practices, everything HB pink jazz bass – backup The rest are superfluous. I agree you have a perfect collection.
  20. My favourite is this: PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS AND COLLECTORS CONSIDER THIS BASS A GREAT INVESTMENT. IT IS THE HOLY GRAIL of JACO BASSES & EXTREMELY, HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE. 100% dog poo.
  21. He may have some funky digital effects behind the scenes, but these guys seem to me to be all about the analogue!
