  1. This is a bit of a heartbreaker, but it’s got to happen. Here’s my Paul Bryant Soloist (number 119). I’ve owned this from new, in fact I commissioned it from him and have the bill of sale. It’s a soloist model, and is still on his website. He describes it this way: “This model has back, sides and head from figured English sycamore, and a front of Sitka spruce, cut some 30 plus years ago, the instrument is covered in a golden brown oil varnish. Length of back 43ins, string stop 40.5ins.” https://www.bryantbasses.co.uk/basses This has had a new bridge, fingerboard shoot and set up by Martin Penning where it was given new Spriocore Weichs. There are a few marks in the top, but nothing major. The action is low and the sound beautiful. It comes with the Realist pickup here and can come with a case if you need one. Reason for sale is the realisation I don’t play it well enough and I simply can’t justify it and I don’t want to hold onto things just for the sake of owning them. It would much rather it was played by someone who can enjoy it. I’m better off with my aluminium beater bass. Images here are a guide. I’m expecting buyers to come and play. I have a music room/office and you can spend as long as you like playing during the day. Price of £5995 reflects the initial cost, add ons, work and value I was given by a shop.
  2. Two businesses I work with have gone into receivership this week and I’m owed money by two firms who I am taking to court. The economy is suffering and so are people.
  3. My wife lost her job this week (she has two, so it's only 50% as bad as it could have been), but that's put my room of gear into perspective.
  4. Can’t play a Gm7b5 ? Learn how with these book! (it’s actually pretty simple to be fair)
  5. This is now packaged up and ready to go but the sale fell through. Anyone?
  6. I once sent a Musicman Stingray and was meant to go to Germany and ended up in Spain - never to be seen again.
  7. If the last few years of social media have taught us anything, it’s a good idea to keep our opinions to ourselves unless we have a command of all the facts. The one positive is that everyone who bought tickets gets to enjoy a show. 2 hours of joyless jazz funk isn’t my bag, but if it’s yours I reckon there’s no better purveyor.
  8. Here are some lovely jazz bass books I’d like to go to someone who will be inspired by them (or not leave them on the shelf). Prices include delivery in tbe UK Ray Brown - £sold Evolving Bassist - £12 Jazz bass compendium - £ Sold Evolving upwards £ Sold Ron Carter - £sold Or £40 for the lot delivered to you.
  9. I had exactly the same malaise as you, Andy. Wasn't playing bass, so I did an art class, which was great fun. But I'm not able to paint with oils here as it stinks and nearly killed the cat (long story!). Started running again and riding mountain bikes and road bikes and just doing stuff without having to play bass. And it was/is great fun. A few years ago I joined a covers band playing funk and soul stuff, which has been great. No need to practice much as it's all simple stuff, and we play 30 odd gigs a year and I earn £100 for each. I also play guitar and run a charity cafe for older people where I bring a guitar and we play songs. I sold up all but the non-essential gear, and I'm a million times happier. Still a few bits to go. Basically, don't chuck it all away but don't feel bad about losing the passion for it. It'll either come back, or it won't. In the end, it doesn't matter.
  10. 4kg but it’s sold now, so it’s weighing slightly more (in its package!)
  11. They’re putatively for sale, but more likely an old man’s folly. I had a bass that was played by Entwistle. Bought from Barry Matthew’s and had photo provenance. I never even bothered to mention it to the buyer, as I’d forgotten.
  12. That reminds me I need to claim the cash back for an aborted pickup. That’s £20 I’d forgotten about.
  13. Now £185 without the Chromes (they’re being used on another bass and so aren’t available anymore).
  14. I bought a 2015 Les Paul Standard and they’re absolutely incredible guitars. I was going to sell mine but I just can’t. Basically, good luck with the sale!
  15. Bristol is full of venues for bands both original and covers. We did toy with the idea of leaving but it won’t happen when there’s so much here.
  16. That’s not always true. But by and large in my 20 odd years as a member this has been the case most of the time.
