Got the tip from Gollihur! Helped me. It’s an approximation, but it should help! Also consider with a lower tension string you may need to adjust the action a bit. It’s no problem if you have an adjustable bridge, but something to consider. Also, picked up the SLB and getting used to it. Will message at some point if you still fancy giving it a try.

Detune your existing Weichs to D G C F and you’ll replicate the tension of solos (when tuned to EADG).

The Aluminium/Aluminum Double Bass **Mega Thread** :)

That’s the picture I saw! Looks amazing. We’re very lucky to have these. -
If each set costs (conservatively) £150, that’s over £6000 in strings! Fair play to him.
-
They’re only high tension until broken in. Mine feel the same as rounds now. Personally, I wouldn’t use any other string.
-
Id love to meet the person who owned it. Bet there’s a story there!
-
I’ve come to the conclusion I won’t ever use this. Does anybody want it or have a use for it? Music charity I do stuff with Don’t need it (or want it!)

Sounds like incidental music from a driving game where you have to select a flashy car from the lineup.

Im not having a go at you, you’re absolutely free to charge whatever you wish. The poster asked for advice and in my opinion, some of the values here are very high for average stuff. You really need to know what you’re buying…

It’s a weird market. Some of the private sale prices on BC are higher than dealer prices with none of the benefits (new strings, ability to pay with a credit card, etc). As a reference, Bass Bros had a lovely 1976 Precision, all original with the case for £2500. Given their mark up must be 20%, I’d wait it out and see what you can find for around £2k.

This is a curious little bass! I picked it up recently to take on holiday to practice, but then I bought the NS Omni bass here, so this was surplus to requirements. It's a lovely pink bass that (to me at least) looks like the Tanglewood basses you saw everywhere in the 90s. It all works perfectly well and has had a brand new set of Rotosound strings on it. The bass looks great, it light as a feather and is super cheap. The only thing to note is that the board appears to be lifting a little on the underside of the neck (fret 2 - 4). I was going to glue and clamp this, but I don't have the time. You can play it and it's fine, but obviously something to be aware of. I know nothing of the manufacturer, the components, or anything else. This (to me) is a cheap, functional and fun bass that I was happy to leave in the car when parked at a services or in my Air B&B ( the one I was renting, I obviously can’t afford to own two homes!) Does £50 sound fair? I have a box and can post it or it's collection and a cup of tea in Bristol (preferred). (this may be removed if the charity I'm volunteering for needs a bass, but this may not happen).

I have somehow acquired a monitor called "The Box MA205". We used this as a monitor when doing some acoustic stuff a while back and it was great. Some superficial scrapes caused by life on the road, but ultimately, a great little monitor from the guys at Thomann. Now surplus to requirements, and yours for £50 delivered in the UK. It's this one: https://www.thomann.de/gb/the_box_ma205_aktivmonitor.htm?glp=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwlJimBhAsEiwA1hrp5u0PlwU3eFAz8IWXKwpbsnoqWzwfISNWRdMNl4KBdr9_fApdzbb9eBoCcc4QAvD_BwE

I had to carry mine across Bristol bridge (very busy!) and I only got one idiotic commment. I view that as a good result -

Music is therapy! Spent the morning with the kids, two gigs in the afternoon and evening and I feel a new person. -

I was a bit worried initially but it’s changed how I play and opened up huge opportunities. -

That’s a lovely way to put it. Our audience was an eclectic mix of kids, tourists, older people and drunks. A few kids came up and asked me about the bass which was really nice to see. It’s perhaps the best investment I’ve made in gear for years
