  1. Very much interested, yes
  2. Ahh this is a classic problem! Depends on your home and all that, but I used to practice in the kitchen when the kids had gone to bed. Now, thankfully, I have all my basses set up in my home office so can play every day.
  3. I’d look to buy one from someone on Basschat or through an experienced dealer. A new bridge, set of strings and a set up can easily set you back £500 or more. Double basses look like they’re tough to play, and they are if you try and apply electric basses technique. If you learn the right technique and have a bass that’s well set up, you shouldn’t experience any pain.
  4. I met him in Manchester and he was taciturn and rude. Turns out it was the night before he was going to be outed by the press for smoking crack so he had a reason!
  5. Here’s a lovely little Tanglewood Elfin bass for sale. This is an ultra short scale bass in good condition with a 19.5” scale. Bass has been used but not abused. There are marks and scratches including a bite mark on the headstock. (Not mine!) Plays well with a low action. The knobs are new(ish) and the strings are brand new. One tuner is different (which enables you to use a normal sized E string!). Comes with a spare tuner. This was for sale here at £40 plus delivery and I’d normally honour that, but I’ve spent money on the strings and sorting it out. £55 delivered seems fair. Ultimate low cost travel bass.
  6. Yeah this is fantastic. I’ve just come back from Disneyland and the effort they go to there to make the attraction accessible and inclusive is brilliant. My daughter has a disability and they couldn’t have done any more for her. Appreciate Disneyland is not everyone’s cup of tea (mine included) but have to shout out to them.
  7. I’ve heard them hundreds of times and I still don’t like it. It’s smug, self satisfied jazz funk with the compression set to 96.
  8. It was an innocent mistake by someone who probably didn’t understand the normal etiquette on a forum. The histrionic responses are what they are. Polite personal message could have sorted it all out. Guess it’s how forums work. Hey ho. I need a lie down…
  9. I have a Squier Bronco Bass I leave in the car when I play double bass gigs. It’s basically insurance if anything goes wrong with the big dog. I can see the appeal of a cheapo bass. I’d buy one local to me on FB marketplace or Gumtree.
  10. Has anyone actually been “triggered” by this? World gone mad.
  11. Seems strange that such an incredible city like Edinburgh wouldn't have a classical teacher, but I don't doubt it. I only know one in Bristol. I love the sounds of the bow, too. In the end, it's what the bass was designed for, so no wonder it sounds so rich and vibrant. Personally, I'm an experiential learner and found that the months of time I spent watching videos and trying to teach myself was wasted. A few lessons with a teacher had me making the sounds I wanted with the bow. Without wanting to come over all Swiss Tony, it's very much like driving a car. Someone can explain the mechanics and the movements and mechanics to you, but you really need to get behind the wheel and hit the road. Wish you the best of luck and will step aside for some (hopefully Scottish based) experts.
  12. Hi Jonny, where are you based? I ask as I’d chat with an experienced player or teacher in person. I struggled for ages on my own but the lessons sorted out everything in a few weeks. The bow is a new instrument in itself and, in my experience, is taking a huge amount of time to improve. But it’s worth it.
  13. When can we buy tickets?
  14. I was chatting with someone and there's a really cool job for a professional musician to work as the manager of the Rock Project in and around Bristol (Clevedon and Portishead). Details here: https://www.facebook.com/TRPBristolNorthSomerset Payment seems really fair, too and the job looks amazing. Sadly not for me as I have kids and it's around school kicking out time. Thought I'd share as opportunities for stuff like this don't come up too often.

  15. Given the guy was a born distuptor I think he’d find the veneration of his 70 year old designs and manufacturing methods laughable. He’d also probably take offence at everyone saying he was a cheapskate.
  16. This kid has made a mistake. I wonder if any one of these guys has reached out to him and asked if he’s ok? He’s a real person. A flawed one for sure and one who’s probably very ashamed at what he’s done. But he’s in a vulnerable spot. Maybe that’ll be the next video, eh?
  17. No need for an argument. I work with the general public so patronising and condescending replies from people who have no idea who I am and what I know are part of every day. Hopefully I’ve clarified my point above. Ironicallly, had they he read through the thread they would have seen that I’d made the exact same point myself. Whats happening now is that all these other of tent creators (none of whom are directly affected) are jumping in to share their views. It’s perpetuating the outrage to generate revenue for their channels.
  18. *Sigh* I’ve read all the replies. This isn’t about that it’s about chasing clicks. It’d bandwagon jumping from content creators who are, ironically, using the downfall of this guy to build their own channels.
  19. Internet innit. People have made creating terrible videos into a career. I don’t really watch YouTube, if I’m honest, but if I saw any of these it’s pretty self evident they’re fake BS. The kind of faux outrage is what it is. People seem personally upset because I guess the my assume that because they’ve seen the videos they have some kind of relationship with them. I find all this a bit weird.
  20. Sorry dude, all sold and off to a new bass place.
  21. This is a wooden endpin crafted by a chap called Ben Bastin. It’s 12 cm long and has a 10mm pin diameter. The eagle eyed will remember I sold this before but it was returned by customs for some reason, and so is for sale again. I actually could use this now and take it to gigs in case of a catastrophic end pin failure (something that actually has happened to me one when a member of the band cracked one of those horridly flexible carbon endpins). But I need money. £25 delivered in the UK sounds fair to me.
  22. This is good to know. Whenever I buy a bass (probably more often than I should) I factor a good few hundred quid into the price to ensure I get the set up, strings and feel I want.
