  2. Cheers Pete, I get all that (and if you've followed my posts on the DB section, it's something I work on each day). But sometimes needs must – especially when I'm playing with an amplified blues band. The purpose is to ensure I'm starting each song in the right position... It's like training wheels. I'll use it for a bit, then when I've got the confidence it'll come off and happy days.
  3. I’d love to play one but I can’t stand The Who.
  4. Haha, I liked that. There do seem to be a statistically unlikely number of 'bursts appearing, but what do I know. Did the Musicground lads get out of prison yet?
  5. I think they're also supported by lots of charities and things that can either buy the instrument and then provide long-term loan of it, or interest free repayments over a long-term period (like a mortgage, I guess). I wonder what would happen if you tried to borrow from them to buy this?
  6. As I understand it, many of these instruments are owned by orchestras rather than players. Maybe that’s how?
  7. We don’t need to get into “are vintage instruments better” (they’re not), but if you buy right it’s undeniable that they’re a good investment. Whether they will continue to be, who knows!
  8. I think they all are. The vintage guitar market heads ever further into the stratosphere of preposterousness. Barry Matthew’s slab was up for £9k at AB a while back and the guys at the equipment rental place had one for £10k a couple of years back.
  9. I’ll add it to my order when I get the Stanley Clarke pre!
  10. I’m sure this has been asked before (I did check), but is there any tuner pedal (not a multi FX) that can operate while playing? (I.e. not muting the signal!) It’ll be useful for my intonation while playing DB, so any help appreciated!
  11. The vintage market is full of such insanity and nonsense. I was looking at this… https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195095187498?hash=item2d6c94502a:g:fI4AAOSwzLpilME4&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAsO3C9t0zvqEBXIwI0SGxeLxJsgm9lJ0gyTu1RWqHm2hNyqQtrgNEZCvFosnECrBxJqAeOPr7chTYEXeKUj9tE3ozmRxV5fzRKHxtg8yRzd0pjcEdWt6B6l7GfGf%2B5%2BJjIqj6QWbDxPjNUL%2BM8zLQn%2BKEyfb2wFjHMHMNL4Bbsn5fp5jGK%2BtOuoF8sn6lSHUOYWTroQkP0giK80WqUsAaom92YdcfTKqDZoa1cOmbCV3%2B|tkp%3ABk9SR86GhbPSYQ ”Fender guitars and basses from this era had notoriously ‘baggy’ routing to the pick-up and neck pockets. This is because Leo fender, being aware of the imminent sale to CBS, stopped upgrading the equipment used to cut the body blanks, so tolerances slipped very slightly in the run up to the takeover sale.” My guitar is poorly made but that’s ok, because they all were.
  12. What a lovely story. Hope he can enjoy it now. Worth having a chat with a luthier who can help ease out the truss rod. Probably stuck but hopefully not broken.
  13. That bass is amazing and I love it.
  14. This forum is for two things: Alwrting people to bargains (few of those) Highlighting rip off sellers If you view posts this way it makes sense.
  15. Surely this is all about the potential application of this? The designs are freely available and on the public domain. The technology is falling in price. Finally, it looks super cool! Its easy to be negative about these things, but the impact could be transformative. I’m working on a project with a global engineering business that are phasing out their network of parts stores and instead shifting to 3D printing. Local engineers can download parts and print a valve part they can be fitted in days. At the moment it’s not possible, but soon will be and it will transform the speed they can deal with dangerous situations. (These are choke valves for energy use in oil and gas etc.)
  16. I have a spare set of Innovations if you want them? Happy to donate to the orchestra. They’re old and have been used but if they could be of use, let me know.
  17. I love this. It’s why I wouldn’t ever do a gig without one. I use an old EBS head and the Elf is super insurance.
  18. i assume this is probably linked to Gay Willis’ visualisation stuff. To be fair, that’s a great book.
  19. I always hate those books when you’ve nailed an exercise and then it says: “Transcribe and practice in all 12 keys…” Scotts written stuff is overblown, yes, but there is lots of value on the site. We all know what SBL is now, so let’s let him go on running his highly successful global business and if we don’t like it, we can ignore the ads.
  20. Hi Mr Shield, best thing to do is click on the user name and you can send a message to them. Ypure obviously passionate about the guitar and we all hope there’s a way that you can get the guitar you want! I believe someone here knows a courier that can personally collect and deliver this. Quite whether that’s possible to Scotland I don’t know, but I hope so!
  21. These are almost new D'addario Chromes Flat Wound Bass Guitar Strings - ECB82 - Long Scale - Medium, 50-105. These we’re fitted to a jazz bass but they were too heavy so I’ve swapped them for light gauge strings. Been played for a couple of hours. No gig and no practices just a bit of noodling at home. Price includes delivery in the UK. Theyll come in the wrapper of the replacement strings (but they are the heavier gauge, trust me!)
