I can fit two basses, two cabs, and an entire PA system in my Dacia. It’s doable with some planning

Cheers Pete, I get all that (and if you've followed my posts on the DB section, it's something I work on each day). But sometimes needs must – especially when I'm playing with an amplified blues band. The purpose is to ensure I'm starting each song in the right position... It's like training wheels. I'll use it for a bit, then when I've got the confidence it'll come off and happy days.

I think they're also supported by lots of charities and things that can either buy the instrument and then provide long-term loan of it, or interest free repayments over a long-term period (like a mortgage, I guess). I wonder what would happen if you tried to borrow from them to buy this?

As I understand it, many of these instruments are owned by orchestras rather than players. Maybe that’s how?

We don’t need to get into “are vintage instruments better” (they’re not), but if you buy right it’s undeniable that they’re a good investment. Whether they will continue to be, who knows!

I think they all are. The vintage guitar market heads ever further into the stratosphere of preposterousness. Barry Matthew’s slab was up for £9k at AB a while back and the guys at the equipment rental place had one for £10k a couple of years back.

I’m sure this has been asked before (I did check), but is there any tuner pedal (not a multi FX) that can operate while playing? (I.e. not muting the signal!) It’ll be useful for my intonation while playing DB, so any help appreciated!

Surely this is all about the potential application of this? The designs are freely available and on the public domain. The technology is falling in price. Finally, it looks super cool! Its easy to be negative about these things, but the impact could be transformative. I’m working on a project with a global engineering business that are phasing out their network of parts stores and instead shifting to 3D printing. Local engineers can download parts and print a valve part they can be fitted in days. At the moment it’s not possible, but soon will be and it will transform the speed they can deal with dangerous situations. (These are choke valves for energy use in oil and gas etc.)

I love this. It’s why I wouldn’t ever do a gig without one. I use an old EBS head and the Elf is super insurance.

I always hate those books when you’ve nailed an exercise and then it says: “Transcribe and practice in all 12 keys…” Scotts written stuff is overblown, yes, but there is lots of value on the site. We all know what SBL is now, so let’s let him go on running his highly successful global business and if we don’t like it, we can ignore the ads.
